    You didn't 'get into' Crumb's 60's and 70's work because you thought the stories were lame? Sheesh.

      If you read those stories today there isn’t much there. But he wasn’t trying to do something amazing. He was letting people know that they could do comics about something other than superheroes or Archie. He’s inspired a ton of people and had amazing drawing ability. I was just being honest with my opinion. I’ve met people that don’t get Moebius or Kirby.

    The first I’d heard of this book was on Robservations when Liefeld reviewed it, but I’d never seen the art until your video. Looks worth buying just for the art. Found my reading material for October’s vacation 🍻

      I'm going to warn you: It's a slog to read. The Bible is not meant for continuous reading. But the art is amazing.

    I believe that after the fact crumb said that he regretted spending so much time on this book and wished he spent his time otherwise. Which is why I never have dug into it but maybe I should give it a look

      I kind of don’t blame him because he spent years on the book and you can still find the HC of it for less than $15 in good shape 13 years later. I bet he got a good payday out of it.It doesn’t appear to be a sales juggernaut. However, the art is pretty phenomenal.

    • @HarveyPekarsGhost
      @HarveyPekarsGhost 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He sold the art for this for like 2.5 mill though, so ultimately it seems it was worthwhile.

      @@HarveyPekarsGhost Mind blown! I don't know if he felt it was his time spent on it that he regrets or money earned...I'm the millions helps, but no one lives forever

    • @HarveyPekarsGhost
      @HarveyPekarsGhost 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sleepyreader666 he may have regretted it at the time, I suppose. I just checked and it was 2.9 million, actually. In his latest comic (the Sauve-Qui-Peut Comic), he says in the Trouble with Money short that Zwirner's gallery sold it for that much. The strip was from 2016, so idk if that's exactly when the sale took place and he doesn't mention how he feels about the art now.

      @@sleepyreader666 he does go into the tax issues that come with the money living in France, but it's still a huge net payday and then he complains about investing it wisely cause you can't find a corporation that isn't evil somehow. Idk that he's really far off on that one, lol. Ultimately Aline makes him buy new clothes and gives like 10k away to people who need it so I guess they feel good about it.

    It's a great piece of work. I own a copy. Saw the original drawings when they were on tour at the college museum. They even displayed my copy of Motor City Comics..

      That’s a great story! I envy you for being able to see that art in person. Having your copy of Motor City Comics displayed is super cool. Thanks!!

      If you have access to a big screen tv or monitor you can get a good view there. Book is around $10 on eBay.

    Why don't you do something, instead of reviewing work by other people? Just Sayin;. You do something. Think about it.

    Dear sir Holy bible reports real incidents that happened. You must note that Holy bible is honest and frank about good things as well as some unhappy incidents. Holy bible reports that sin took place but DOESNOT encourage sin. It rather CONDEMNS sins.
    1.Coming to Lots daughters, Lot was drunk(unconscious) but his daughter(who were brought up in sodom influenced by such environment) did such an act.
    2. About multiple wives, it was Not Gods design(adam and eve). But men chose (hardness of heart) and sometimes were FORCED by their wives (like prophet Abraham and prophet Jacob) to have multiple companions.
    3. Abraham was a foreigner in Egypt and in those days kings would forcefully take beautiful women and kill their spouses. God punished pharoah for this evil act. Later pharoah started acting innocent. People when caught always play a victim card.

    No offense meant, but your commentary of the book is a big repetitious.

    dear mr. carcases, R, Crumb was paid well to do book of genesis. if you cannot 'get' the humor of his early work try reading it like a kid. it is very funny! recommend you check out "confessions of r. crumb" on u tube. one of crumb's great talents was the ability to invent and draw funny characters while putting them in terrific story lines. crumb gave me more laughs than anything else in the 60s & 70s.

      @@rccomics yeah, I'm giving up smoking and it helps me to chill in the evening, one thing I've realised colouring it in panel by panel, Crumb put alot of work into this book, it must have took him ages to complete,

      @@mavis3916 Congrats on trying to quit smoking. It’s one of the hardest things to do but it can be done. Crumb said it took him five years.
