See if you can work with bovington and world of tanks again to restore a WW2 prototype like the Excelsior, or maybe even a 105mm sherman. Excelsior has a really unique history, and the 105 sherman is quite rare as far as I know.

I haven't been to the museum for a few years now. But outside was the Royal Engineers Bridge layout. My father was an instructor at Bovington in the early 60s on this very vehicle. If it is still there, I would like to see that restored. Sadly my father sadly my father there's no longer with us but I think he would have loved to seen it up and running.

What an excellent showing of WWII vehicles. Great impression of the SAS Desert Rats, including the correct twin aircraft machine guns mounted on Jeeps. One DUKW. I got to drive a 'Duck' used for tours in the Charles river in Boston, Mass. USA. it still had the original rudders on the prop drive. They are very slow to respond in water, it's a few seconds pause before it actually starts to turn ( the rudders are pretty small ). A great show. I hope someone finds you some 183MM cases so you can live fire the FV4005 someday.

A WWII project. Hmm. As ex gunner and ex REME I always wanted to see that amazing AA gun in Duxford functioning. I think it was about 3.7 or maybe 4.2 with contra rotating magazines auto loading into a barrel. I think it was a concept project but it must have been phenomenal to watch it fire! More interesting and with lots of merchandising possibilities would be to format a REME truck which folded down to reveal lathe, drill, welding equipment, blacksmith facility and sides turning into benches. This would also have a practical use within your own facility and extend not only your own knowledge but involve some interesting videos of creative play especially if you borrowed odd craftsmen to explain and demonstrate various techniques of the era.

As with most tanks this old they are normally utilizing new old stock from that era or repaired parts. It’s not the only Sherman Tank that I have heard that runs smoothly and is quiet when compared to others. As someone who had a big portion of their family serve during WW2 and hearing what little they’d talk about they were very proud of their equipment and took very good care of it as they wanted it to be reliable as they relied heavily on it keeping them alive. We also have to remember that was an entirely different generation and considered one of the greatest generations ever for very good reasons.

@@Terraqueo22 it all depends on how much your willing to spend. I’ve personally seen 4 separate B-29 engines being rebuilt but not be rebuilt back to their original configuration as they were know to be somewhat problematic. So they took the original engine and meshed it together with a completely different much more reliable engine and had to have parts custom machined in order to make them work. They’ve definitely become much more reliable and produce more power however because of all the special machine work needed the cost to build the new engines was one million dollars each. They built 8, four primary engines and 4 spare backup engines. They used the original 8 they had and 8 other used engines from the WW2 era. The custom machine work was a big part of the cost. But when it was the only B-29 still flying at that time it was worth raising the money to keep it flying.

I really envy you guys having such a great day with such wonderful vehicles of all kinds. I didn't realise how uncomfortable the T-34 really was or it is also because this tank had issues with the steering system? Great job you all did 👏 👍

I have neither the words or the crayons to express the fantastic results of the 4005
Superb effort and massive praise for the results
It looks even bigger in an open field than the confines of a farmyard 🫨
And I'll be showing this to me Pops cos he loves the WW2 stuff (he's the son of a WW2 soldier)
Sadly he's not gonna make it Operation Market Harborough but thanks beyond words to Joe Hewes and the team for the videos that make a terminal old man man smile 👍

some nice examples there, love to see the Quad Gun Tractor, Limber and 25Pdr, and a couple of Bren Gun Carriers
Nicks Stewart is rather special as is his DUKW (don't think he should sell it), once you seen one Willis Jeep you seen 'em all sadly, unless its dollied up with some of David Stirling's crew and equipment, who would not want one of those, and if the genuine vehicle, worth its weight i bet, the Cevvy LRDG is very pretty and the little fella and the little tank with the oversized turret, silly but cool
great job Joe & Co, and yes if you can find something WWII era, you go for it, something nice to pass on to the kids, or Ted

Any possibility of adding a restored to running order Tiger 2 to the Tank museum's collection? Admittedly, given the scarcity of bits, it'd possibly be nearer a replica than a restoration.

Should you restore a WWII Tank? Yes.... Absolutely, why not?
Which one? Well, Matildas are fun (but maybe a bit ehh, deafening, what with the whole "let's not bother with return rollers")... Still fun though, especially if you build a Frog or Hedgehog variant of her...
Then again, a Churchill Crocodile is nice and spicy.... But there's a lot preserved already... Tortoise, so Spud can feel like a nimble medium tank 😆?
Ooooeeeehhh!!!! I know: A TOG 2 (one of those in running order will surely turn some heads😁)
    ...
Britain didn't really do "light and nimble" tanks (like the Covenanter, Comet, Cromwell or Crusader), did they?😋

That would’ve been a crying shame to have seen Jack slip while he was leaning over that wet concrete and seen him land face first into it. I for one wouldn’t have laughed.

Looks like a great turnout and I do like how they get dressed up as well
I think ww2 stuff is a bit hard to get and very difficult to fix
    Especially the radial engines
But I wouldn’t be adverse to a Sherman mr hewes
