One issue I had a run in with is the tube would get blown out the block on the back. I screwed on some cheap metal plates to the blocks and it solved that issue.
without the proper bench vise grip, this was a bitch to drill holes in. esp with 2x4. maybe after the one I just I finished, i’ll try 4x4 blocks for the tubes as the 2x4 blocks kept splitting. all in all a good vid. thanks again. could be done twice as fast with a vise grip lol.
James excellent! I don't weld, don't have equipment nor space for welder. Like this, cannot leave at Range, have idea to make base transportable, able to remove etc.? Thanks.
My pleasure. I'm gonna post an update next week about how the tree did with a few hundred rounds put in it and some adjustments I had to make. Nothing crazy, just an add on that you can do using scraps around the shop or spend under $10 to increase durability. All in all, it's still working great though. Same as the $400 dueling trees.
Only problem if you have someone shoot and miss and hit the 2x4 it will rip it to pieces I made a wood target and had a new shooter that ripped it to shreds
The shrapnel will chew up the side of the 2x4 I imagine. I wouldn’t imagine it would cost a lot to have a local welding shop to weld up the tubes to a pc of Channel iron. Good job on your 2x4 tree.
Hi Daniel, I'm on year two of this tree and use it all year long. True the shrap does chew up the sides and it'll need to be changed likely next season but all in all I'd say it's still worth it.
Hi Doug, sorry to hear that. In the two years I've been using this I've never actually hit the center 2x4. But ya I imagine if your aim is off and hit the center that would def mess things up. Something you could do to make that issue go away would be to screw a second 2x4 to the front of it with some sheet metal in-between (a few layers) and that'll save your main 2x4 from getting the brute of the damage.
Thanks for actually shooting your target in the video. This is a good cheap option.
Thanks for sharing James... I have been looking for a simple duelling tree and this fits my intended use.
Hey David, you're welcome, it's still going strong too.

Gonna make a follow up video if anyone is interested. Going over issues I've seen in the comments and improvements.
I'd love to see that!
What about doing a 15/16 hole and hammer the tube in for a pressure fit?
not bad

Great idea, but WOW those are thick paddles. Were those 6” diameter?
Thanks

Are 3/8" paddles too thick for .22 pistol?
How long did it last before wood holding tubes break?

James can i ask you?Can i order the steel plate?
I got them off eBay for something like $60
Looks great- until you hit the upright 2x4. Range day over, tree target dead.

@@jtonerII In dueling, speed counts as you're racing an opponent. That 2X4 is going to be shot to pieces in a match.
Seems dangerously high. Like the top target you would be shooting upward.
Hi, it all depends on where you put it. I changed the location so that wouldn't be an issue. You can obviously change it to your desired height.
Mexican or Mexicant???
