    I just finished watching your other video on how to change out the front engine fuel filter. Then, I jumped in and watched this video on how to change out the rear fuel filter. Both videos were well done. Great job. Thank you.

    I’ve found that if you loosen the big cap before you drain thru the hose/petcock, the filter housing drains completely. You can by hand continue turning with the hose on to get the correct looseness. It seems the air gets sucked in.
    Very little mess.

    If you place one of those long transmission fluid funnels between the fuel tank and the driveshaft, it catches most of the fuel when it starts gushing out. Just did it myself. 2022 3500 4x4

    Life saving your videos!!! Btw how often do you change your fuel filters?

      I usually follow the intervals on the dash but I change them at about 20%.

    The tube is just draining the water from the diesel fuel filter. When you pull the filter out it’s mainly diesel. Being diesel is hygroscopic you should drain the water off the filter once a month using that clear tubing you’ve got. She’ll last much longer.

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once the water is drained one would think the diesel would be next...at least most of it. Thanks for watching.

      @@funbro1 yeah that’s how my SuperDuty is. The water comes out first and then when you start seeing diesel you close the petcock. Not sure why yours didn’t do that. Was thinking it was designed to.....I’m no design engineer for Fiat though so Idk lol.

    Does your 3500 have the high output diesel? I have a '21 2500 so no high output but I'm thinking it's all the same size sockets and drain tubes.

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t believe this is a high output.

    Just curious. What weight oil do you run in yours? I’ve seen 5w-40 and 10w-30 for the new hydraulic lifters on these Cummins?

    • @funbro1

      It can be either depending on synthetic or conventional. Thanks for watching.

    I have a 2019 and just did my 2nd rear filter change this evening. I do my rear ones every oil change at 10k miles. I was kinda freaking out because I saw a bunch of fine rusty looking sand size particles on the top of the old filter and some in the bowel. It appeared in your video that yours had some too. What are your thoughts about that? Fuel station has dirty tanks?

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dirty tanks, dust or crappy fuel. Hopefully the filters do their job.

    I see some mechanics snap the filter on the cap first rather than putting in the filter first. If you do that, will it line up the notches the way you snapped in the filter? Not sure what to do first? Your way of putting in the filter or snapping the filter on the cap till it clicks.

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can be done either way but for me I want to make sure that the filter is lined up. The cap is easy to line up once the filter is set. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching.

    I wonder if you left the tube in place and petcock valve open when breaking the seal, if that would have reduced the mess?

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve tried several different ways to do this and they always make a mess. Once you break the seal all the fuel that is in the cup spills out over the edge making even more mess. I thought the petcock valve was there to prevent making a mess but it does not seem to work too well. Thanks for watching.

      @@funbro1 Yeah, I just changed the filters yesterday. I think the front one was put on with an impact wrench…it was a pain in the neck to get loose. The rear one was not as bad, plus more room for leverage. On the rear filter, I left the petcock open and carefully worked around the tube I left in place. About two full rotations to break the seal…a little more fuel flowed out the tube, then it just started spewing from the seal! I let it drain for a good 15 minutes, then kept unscrewing the cap…then Niagara Fuels happened! 🤣 Worst engineering design I have seen in a while. I think the fuel is actually stuck in the post and central area somehow and the seal on that does not give until the cap comes apart. Because why not make the small cap portion at the top of the unit and the bottom part be the main body like a cup? That would be so much easier to keep fuel from going all over….

    • @funbro1

      I have found an easy way to remove the front filter. What I do is put the socket on the cap then put the ratchet on the socket then with the ratchet going to correct way I use a 36” crowbar against the frame and leverage the ratchet a few times till it is loose enough for me to do it by hand. I had to figure something out because it was almost impossible to remove while laying on top of the engine. I just make sure that when using the crowbar I don’t damage any wires, hoses, tubes and all the other junk that runs by the frame. I was able to find a clear spot on the frame that works good. Hopefully you find this useful because I know those things are tough to get off.

      Put a gallon ziplock bag over the filter housing as you unscrew it.
