Hello Lisa. I tried several times to recreate what you have done but could not get it to work. The copied layer was not listed in the small drop down menu in the 'Displacement' window so the effect could not be achieved. I then discovered that the copied layer needs to be a 'Smart Object' for it to work correctly. Once I had converted this layer to a 'Smart Object' it then became visible in the drop down menu and I was able to choose it. The blending then became possible. I also had to physically enter the new project pixel dimensions to get them to match those of the original picture as it didn't do it automatically for me. 😊
Thanks for the advice, I had the same issue but turning copied layer into a smart object solved it. In my case saving the copied layer into a PSD file didn't create a second layer on my original project, so I just duplicated the background layer, turn it into a smart object, rasterize the text and lastly apply the filter... just in case someone has the same problem.
Thanks for teaching me something new.😊 I was trying without the tutorial and I had no idea what to do.👍
