- Hi, this video shows you how you can still use your TV with HDMI equipment using Full HD (1080P) even if your HDMI ports have stopped working. For approx. £10-£15 you can keep using your faulty TV by using a HDMI to VGA Adapter and also a HDMI switch.
Many thanks Vince
Our TV stopped working this morning. We followed your tips, ordered everything off Amazon and we are back in business! We spent $25 and the picture looks great. Thank you for your video and saving us from having to buy a new TV.
Vince, I was having the "no signal" problem on my LG tv, searched You Tube for an answer and came across this video. I decided to try it since all the needed gear didn't cost much. It worked pretty much like you said and this solution will bridge the gap until I can save for a new TV. Thanks for your help, it got me out of a jam.
Thanks for the comments, I'm glad you got it working again :-)
I can I
That's the same thing I'm getting no signal.
My cable is good (HDMI). I THOUGHT it was the graphics card.
But that is also good.
So I'm leaning towards
The HDMI port.
This is a great video.

This is great. I "inherited" a 7-year-old 50" TV with all broken HDMI ports and I was about to get rid of it. For 25 bucks it's worth giving this workaround a try.
I've got an older TV where the HDMI ports just went out and found this while searching for other possible options. I already knew what you were describing here, but it was good to see someone had made a video explaining it. I may be using my now defective TV in a similar fashion in a less used area, via an HDMI to VGA adapter. Good work and I bet you're helping a lot of people!
Very clear concise instructions... easily found everything on Amazon and ordered it. It came to about $25 US Dollars. Way cheaper than buying a new TV and now I will have 3 HDMI inputs with remote. Love it. Thank you! I will let you know how it worked out.
Metta Clinical Management Hi, did you sort out the TV?? I think I need to follow the video carefully ...my Samsung hdmi fried a few nights ago with thunderstorms over Bristol, UK. Virgin Media engineer confirmed today...😕...so...have you been successful??
Thank you, thank you! All four of our hdmi ports blew at once and this was a quick and easy solution. ***UPDATE: 5 years in and we are still using this. Much cheaper than a new tv!
Well that’s unfortunate 🤣
did it work for you when you tried it?
@@naomielouifaite8537 Yes, and it is still working!
@@colleenbarney8671 that’s awesome I’m getting the my items today.
Hi, can you plug instead of x box a demo ?
Thanks for making this video. In the US, San Diego, California, where I live, its even cheaper to do this simple fix. Loved the "hot-air" fix your HDMI ports video too. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much Vince... your fix worked like a charm! The HDMI ports blew on my LG 55LX6500 and I got zero help from LG customer service on how to fix or work around the problem. LG even denies there is a problem with the HDMI ports on this generation of their TVs. Their only suggestion was to call out a service tech which made no sense for an 8 year-old TV. Ordered all the parts you suggested thru Amazon for CAD$ 37.30, followed your installation instructions and within 5 minutes I had my Cable TV Gateway and my ROKU back operating on the TV. Again, thanks for the great advice!
Thanks Vince my lg tv just broke thought about resoldering when I found this video. I had thought about trying the method but never gave it much thought, thanks for the info.
Vince thank you so much for this video My Monitor HDMI port broke and I didn’t have the money for a new monitor but as I was searching for an answer I found this video and I found it really helpful so I decided to buy all the parts (expect for the HDMI switcher I bought a Coupler instead) from Amazon at a cost of $20 CAD and it works perfect I get 1080p with my PS4 and whoever comes across this video just letting you know this works 100% great advice 👍🏻👍🏻
You have literally just saved me £400 + great informative video, got all the parts for under fifteen quid and it worked an absolute treat, thank you so much 😊
3:39 you can use any VGA cable you don't need this adapter the cable goes in the HDMI to VGA and then straight to the tv
I'm so glad I found this video - was pulling my hair out with factory reset and that wasn't working. Will give this a go. Cheers
What a beautiful voice! I wish I could learn about everything with an accented host! 😻 And now that I've finished, beautiful video, thank you Mate Vince! I've learned so much. I'm so glad I can resolve my old 55" connections.
It's so weird that ten years ago I would have been scratching my head wondering what the heck this all meant. I understood what you used (and for what purpose) you used all the gadgets for. I didn't actually know that this was possible before though. You are very clear and easy to follow. I watched a few of your other videos too. Thank you so much for making these videos.I also have subscribed to your channel, so when I have problemsin the future, I'll know right where to look.
Thanks :-)
Thank you for making this video. I thought I would have to buy a new TV. With your steps my tv is working like new.
What pieces did you order?
Thank you SO much! I was able to get our gaming systems back up and running on our family room television - my kids thank you too!

HDMI PORT.
KEITH KUHN
Yes, thank you so much, I bought a HDMI to RCA box with the charger and RCA leads and an HDMI lead for about £20. It worked for 2 days and now I gent get a picture. This was my last resort before selling my tv so thanks
Good advice and also just remember that the Sega Dreamcast back in 1999 used VGA as an upgraded video connection. It's an old technology but it's very capable. The advantages back then included exceptional video quality and no ghosting compared to the cheaper and more commonly used connections. If you've lost HDMI, VGA is a perfectly useable alternative.
Great Video. Wish I'd seen this before I bought a Male HDMI port and Soldering Kit. I'm sure many are ignorant about the VGA workaround,, which I'll still use as I've only got 2HDMI's. Many Thanks.
My HDMI port broke, just did this exactly like he said and it worked. The only issue i had is the my gender changer came with screws on the side that block it from being able to plug in on one side. Just used a regular VGA cable with male ends. Worked perfectly and saved my TV for 6 dollars on EBAY. This is probably the most useful, to me, video on TH-cam ever. 👍
I didn't realise this, thanks for making the video I'm sure it will help people.
Excellent ! very informative and clearly presented. Thank you of all this information. I have been dealing with signal loss on a 50' HDMI cable to my other office (security system hook up) and I have been having a lot of trouble. I now know all the letters of the different cables and what they do and don't do. Thanks again for your video it was very helpful.
I legit brought a new tv gutted wish i seen this sooner so hopefully I can get my old one back working because it’s better thank you x

Tried the new lead but is now showing INVALID FORMAT❗❗any ideas guys??
Thank you, thank you!!! This worked! I ordered everything I needed for under $20 on Amazon. 💕💕
Does your'e TV have a PC audio port?
Thanks! Great video. I had this same thing happen and did almost the same as your video, except took the smart kid from Walmart's suggestion to run a vga computer cable (male on both ends) to connect from the adapter (plugged into the cable box) up to the back of the TV- works great. Then I ran an audio cable (with two RCA jacks on one end and 8mm jack on the other) from the cable box to the back of the TV. In this whole process I figured out another method that would probably be easier and cheaper- Amazon has HDMI to RCA cables that would also deliver hi def.
Tim is rca AV ?
Yes, it would come up as AV. To me the picture looks as good as hdmi.
This is insane,, And simple.. I love it.. I had a issue with the HDMI ports in my TV and couldn't connect my tv decoder.. Now I can connect it.. Thanks a lot.......
Thanks, man. I didn't realize VGA was 1080p. Now, I can postpone buying a new TV for another few years (hopefully).
Perfect video and so well explained for someone like myself who knows nothing about this stuff but needs a solution for this same problem! Thanks!!
It worked great for my smaller tv in the room. I have the same problem for my Samsung tv in the living room but I don't see the connector you mentioned on this one? I wonder if there is another way for me to fix this problem on my big screen tv?
3:43 you can also use a vga cable
Excellent tip I'm dealing with this problem now.I have a Vizio tv with a broken HDMI port that is connect a Firestick.Question how do I connect the VGA Adapter to obtain a picture and audio of whatever I'm watching from them Firestick?I don't want to throw the tv away. Thanks in advance
Thank you for this video, it save me from buying a new tv.
Thanks Vince, I always enjoy your fixes and tips. I have only one (of two) hdmi port working on my elderly Sony Bravia hd tv. I decided to use the hdmi switching box and remote (exactly as the one you show in this video) to switch between my set top box and an Amazon Fire stick into the working hdmi port. It works perfectly with the set top box but no display arrives at the screen when switched to the Firestick, regardless of which of the 5 outlet channels I plug the Firestick into. I wonder if you have any idea why this fails? Or any tip that may help?
very good instructions clear and concise well done Vince
Thank you for doing this video! I thought I was going to have to pay hundreds to fix my hdmi outlets.
I had this problem on a Samsung TV, I purchased a used replacement board from ebay for £16, TV is now working fine on all HDMI inputs ;)
3:13 the way he said Tiny😂😂😂
Thank you so much Vince ! Saved me from purchasing a new TV !! Cheers !
Do you have link for the parts pls
That was a great video, Vince. We have this Blown HDMI problem on my LG TV and I'll be doing exactly as you described. Thank you very much as it'll save buying another Tele. Cheers mate.
Still cheaper than buying a new tv good posting :-)
Haetch DMI Also most people use the audio in/outs for other equipment the switch and the tv only allow one input at a time, so your surround system must use whatever the tv connection is. can be done but anyone that needs this video to figure this out wont be able to do it on their own
Hey Vince can You please put the Amazon links of the things you used in the video into the description
I have heard that component video is capable of 1080 but interlaced not progressive which you can also get adapters for that also I'd say that component is more common then VGA
Use the component video cable for the 720p or 1080i wich is full hd also
Hi Vince! I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there any reason why you can't just get an HDMI to VGA adapter with a male connector, so that you don't have to buy the extra male to male adapter?
That's exactly what I did and it worked!

Came expecting how to hack an hdmi port.
Instead Told to use rca cables.
Damn this is a old vid, and the first time I’ve seen your face. Hi Vince!!
I use a HDMI to VGA adapter for my PS4 to my monitor and it works fine at 1080p the only complaint that people may have is that the maximum resolution is 1920 X 1080 and 60Hz I think and although most people including myself don't care about the 60Hz maximum refresh rate as anything above is kind off unnecessary especially if it is being used on a TV.
THANKK YOUUU!!!! Stumbled on this video and I just ordered the stuff! Hope it works! Thanks a million! ☺️
Very good and informative video appreciated ❤
Thanks man👍this video help a lot, I was so close to throw away my T.V
Can you send a link to the one you purchased please
Very good video! I never knew that RGB IN would allow for 1080p input ! WOW ! That's good to know!
Great video, perfect timing, I got a really nice tv for Christmas and I think I broke the hdmi 1 port on it by accident 😥
All comcast customers should watch this video.
If you choose the male hdmi with female vga AND the audio output, you can avoid purchasing one more adapter. I found several on Amazon for $8.00 even including a mini-hdmi to usb and the 3mm audio. Works wonderfully. And the hairdryer solutions you read about? My electrical engineer friend says it's NOT the chip that is fixed by the heat but the micro cracks in the solder in the board, that expand and reconnect once heated. This way it's permanent.
Vince, I'm getting a configuration not supported message. Do you, or anyone else, have any recommendations? My television is a Samsung LCD 540. My HDMI to VGA adapter is a Tendak. My HDMI source is a ROKU Streaming Stick Plus.
i do this all the time! but i did not know vga could do 1080 i thought it was 720. im running a fm2 at 3.9 dual into a 65 with 4k but with very slow dsl internet less then 1k and its running slowly when running videos of movies and im wondering is it the cable or that its 65 inch but it seems im at the end of its capabilities which seems strange the cpu should handle it..
Hi Vince, Thanks for this excellent presentation!!!! I followed all the instructions, everything went well, except that the Red color is gone. Mine is SAMSUNG LN46C630 about 9 years old TV. Any suggestions be helpful.

Yes. HDMI to Component adapters are cheap from Amazon. Worked fine on my 10 year old LG LED TV when all 4 HDMI ports died. Only problem is that there may be only one or two Component connectors on the TV.
Many thanks to My Mate VINCE, My Hitachi Plasma 50PD9800TA started working on CADYCE HDMI to VGA adapter with Audio using VGA to VGA cable.
I think the difference between the video quality might be that VGA is 1080I rather than HDMI 1080 P. It is the interlacing that causes the difference ,no doubt. Great work around, though.
in my opinion 1080i is the same as 1080p

Thankgod. LG service center guy said I need to change entire main board to fix hdmi port . Now I am able to use my hdmi devices .. Just 10 dollars fixed my hdmi requirement.
OK so first, what do I need to buy...
Because my HDTV only has one hdmi port but it's broken. I can't play With my ps4 or watch TV because they all need an hdmi cable. So what cables or adapters I need to buy
WOW, I might try that. 2 of my old LG tv HDMI connectors came away from the PCB. so I now have to use a 3-way HDMI splitter on the one remaining HDMI connector. When that one gives I will try your method to keep my 3D TV longer.
Hi I followed the video and got everything hooked up. The picture is great but there is no sound. The hdmi to vga adapter came with a 3.5mm audio cable and I plugged that in to the audio in on the TV but nothing. Any idea what could be the issue? Thanks.
Hi, it could be faulty, try another 3.5mm lead if you have a spare one. Also maybe try connecting up your phone with TH-cam playing or a song to the TV 3.5mm input to see if the audio comes through. Also double check it is the audio in and not the headphone jack that you are plugging into. Hopefully by doing a process of elimination you will be able to pinpoint the fault onto the TV, lead or VGA converter.
how did you solve the sound issue in the end?
After connecting from RCB-PC to HDMI, I am seeing invalid format message from no signal any help?
Excellent idea! Thanks for posting.
Lmfaooo, I had no idea where you were going with that vga contraption. But then you brought out the wireless hdmi switch!
Can you link where you bought these items... my tv does not say vga but it says rgb instead but seems to have the same ports
Hello Vince. Great video. However this didn't fix my problem. All it says when I follow your steps with the hdmi adapter and rgb port is "no rgb signal power will be turned off". Then my tv shuts itself off. Would you guess the main board has gone bad and I need a new one? It seems to me the problem is deeper than just the hdmi ports not working.
Hi, the adaptor in the video is a HDMI to VGA adaptor so if you have the same adaptor as me then you need to go to the VGA input on the TV which is often called PC input. Apologies if you have got a HDMI to RGB adaptor as you will then need the RGB input.
Thanks Vince

Literally about to throw our TV out due to a blown HDMI (only one avaliable) going to try this now thanks
awesome tutorial...this worked for me however, I think my VGA is starting to go bad as well. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have an ethernet cable connected to my smart tv coming from my router and am able to stream Netflix no problem. My question is...let's say all ports are bad on the tv except for ethernet, is it possible to convert hdmi from cable box to ethernet into tv? Does someone make a converter?
Somehow all 3 of our HDMI ports stopped showing video but they still have audio. We don't know what happened & thought maybe we pressed a button on one of the 3 remote controls we have that messed it up. All 3 of the HDMI inputs say No Signal when we press the Input button even though 3 of them have devices plugged in. We have a Cox Cable Contour DVR, a DVD player & a Roku stick. If our audio still works do you think this is the fix we are going to have to try? Also, thanks in advance for your time & help!
