    Classic Hendrix, never playing his songs the same way twice, always improvising always experimenting, ALWAYS BRILLIANT..

    There will never be another guitar player as inventive as JIMI Eddie always talked about Eric, but I don't hear it. Without Jimi there never would have been a Eddie Van Halen! Hendrix reinvented the electric guitar, no one was doing swoops and dives before Jimi.The very first song I ever heard from Jimi was Third Stone From the Sun, and my life was never the same after that. Thanks Brother, you sacrificed your life to give this world your gift from GOD !

      That's true. Imagine if he only used one riff at the time. He could have like 2 more albums. Take Sabbath for example. They play a 3 power-chord riff, they play a small guitar solo and that's the whole song. Unlike Budgie or Hendrix for example, who their songs are progressing as they going. But then again. If Hendrix used "The one riff formula" his music wouldn't be the phenomenon it is today.

    I attended this performance, just 14 year's old. Sat in row "J " with 10 of my New Jersey friends from Montclair High School. All dedicated Hendrix fans. For what it is worth...Here are a few observations upon hearing Jimi's new sounds.
    The audience was in shock.The applause after each number was subdued and reserved. Jimi's New Year's Eve vibe was depressed and it affected the excited moods of the audience. He stood perfectly still in one position the entire show.
    I was not able to truly comprehend his new sounds until the album came out and I could study it. His 3rd tune,
    of the evening ,after warming up , for me, remains his finest guitar playing of his short career.

      Read the account of Bill Graham challenging Hendrix to drop all the theatrics (which Hendrix HATED having to do in the 1st place!) And just play! Read the account, Hendrix acknowledged that he was inspired to give a great show as a musician. He hated having to do all of the theatrical things the crowds came to expect from him, they were cliches after the first few months of the JHE ( Jimi Hendrix Experience)

      @@ahzroc1 All, Jimi owed this album to a guy named Ed Chalpin, who had a signed contract with Jimi from before he became famous. This was the settlement. It was Chalpin who, after the first set of Jimi bouncing around and not playing his best, said he wouldn't accept the recording as payment unless he stood still and played seriously. Bill Graham may have delivered that message, but it was Chalpin who made the demand.

    • @williambent9636
      @williambent9636 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brianboyle3998 interesting, I've never heard this story. I have heard Chalpin was underwhelmed with having a live album as fulfillment of the contract. I've read a few of the hendridx biographies, can you tell me where you heard this?

    • @brianboyle3998
      @brianboyle3998 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@williambent9636 I believe it was 'Scuse me While I Kiss the Sky. David Henderson, 1982. Further, Chalpin was the manager of Curtis Knight, and he signed Jimi to a separate deal while Jimi was with the band. When Jimi left for England and became famous, Chalpin reappeared. While lawsuits were going back and forth, Chalpin flooded the market with inferior recordings of Curtis Knight Featuring Jimi Hendrix. (Who when the recordings were made went by the name Jimmy James.) Look up producer Alan Douglas. He's a real POS who put out plenty of Hendrix albums while the Estate was in flux. One of the albums, Midnight Lightning, actually tells you he used professional session players to "fill in" Hendrix parts that Douglas felt Jimi would have done. I had a couple of dozen bootleg (by today's standard) recordings of Hendrix when I was young, lent them to a kid later in life, and lost them all. Except for Loose Ends.

    Wow man. I have been smoking weed day and night for too long and feeling bad about not getting as much done as I should after work. Jimi is such a amazing original thinker, truly original and he is teaching some kid in 2018 not to be baked all the time. And uplifting people still and always will. I have been listening to him all my life and what he said in this song might not be popular with his audience but he said it out of love and experience. What a legend.

    Over the course of four extraordinary years, Jimi Hendrix placed his indelible stamp upon popular music with breathtaking velocity. Measured alongside his triumphs at Monterey Pop and Woodstock, Hendrix’s legendary Fillmore East concerts illustrated a critical turning point in a radiant career which boasted of indefinite possibilities.
    The revolutionary impact Jimi Hendrix, Billy Cox, and Buddy Miles had upon the boundaries and definitions of rock, R&B, and funk can be traced to four concerts over the course of two evenings on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. These performances were first celebrated by Band Of Gypsys, which featured six songs from the two January 1, 1970 concerts including “Machine Gun,” the album’s dramatic centerpiece. Issued in April 1970, Band Of Gypsys challenged and surprised the guitarist’s wide following with its extended arrangements and vibrant mix of rock and soul. Nonetheless, the album proved to be a runaway commercial success and sadly, with his death in London in September 1970, would become the last album Jimi Hendrix personally authorized for release.
    Machine Gun: The Fillmore East First Show 12/31/69 documents the first of the group’s four legendary Fillmore East concerts. This set presents an assortment of fresh, exciting new songs such as “Earth Blues,” “Ezy Ryder,” “Stepping Stone,” “Burning Desire,” and “Machine Gun”-none of which had ever before been issued on disc. Moreover, nearly all of the group’s material had never been performed before an audience. “We decided that we couldn’t do any songs that had already been released,” explains Billy Cox. “We wanted to give them something different. So we went at the project in a joyous, creative posture and ultimately developed the repertoire of the Band of Gypsys.”

    I was 13 years old when I was introduced to Hendrix. And the Album was the Band of Gypsy's! Wow man, I thought I had died and gone to heaven....... I wore that album out. I got some of his other awesome albums as time went on. But this one did it for me. A young man playing lefty like that and way ahead of his time. He is the greatest of all times so far...... He had to die so young. But his music still lives on. I'm 61 now and I still listen to it. My man Jimi! And he had some awesome musicians that played with him as well. Gone but never forgotten. R.I.P. Jimi.😎✌️💯💯

He transcends to the highest point, sits above the rest and smiles down on them. There never was and never will be anyone who can match James Marshall Hendrix aka Jimi Hendrix.

    Everybody knows that Jimi Hendrix is the greatest guitar player of all times, for me is one of the fathers of FUNK either

    • @TheBookofTobit
      @TheBookofTobit 8 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      No.
      U don't know funk if u think that. James Brown is the father of the funk. Funk is on the 1. Jimi had much more range than that. This is blues on steroids.

    • @BoHorn
      @BoHorn 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Jaewook Jeong He certainly had some funky riffs, but it is more reminiscent of a different era of funk. James Brown was on of the roots, Jimi may have inspired some funk, but not the genre or its direction.

    • @TheBookofTobit
      @TheBookofTobit 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Indeed. To know what is funk, u must first understand that funk starts on the ONE..ONE, bop bop bop bop bop ONE bop bop bop annnd ONE..James Brown is the father of the funk and SLY STONE was the future of the funk. George Clinton and Bootsy Collins smoothed it all out and were the pinnacle of funk.

    • @jevonwhite5193
