  • Kawasaki's new Hybrid motorcycles have arrived. With the Ninja 7 Hybrid and the Z7 Hybrid, there are entirely new platforms and technologies to understand. In this video I look beyond the marketing hype and guesswork of others to try to give you the most accurate picture that I can of what these bikes are. Check it out by connecting with the amazing team at Jim Gilbert's PowerSports here: powersports.wh...

I like the idea of electric bikes in full-size form factor. When the technology matures, they're gonna be ferocious. Please do take this bike once around the gas pumps for us. I'd like to see this do a genuine rip in the different modes.

I’m saving up for this there are 3 available in my area but $13,000 is hard to come by these days.

I was expecting a motorcycle hybrid to have more battery and less engine like a CT90 with the step-through filled with battery. This seems to make sense and I like the motorcycle display with bat. temp.. I look forward to someone loading it for ADV and see how it handles.

the price and the weight is such a turn off, the weight seems to be a hard thing to fix, I have more hope for the full EV for the foreseeable future

      Full EV = bigger battery.
      Perhaps even higher weight?

Hopefully, Kawasaki releases this early 2025, because a late season release is Horrible timing. But i'm Very excited to see this idea realized by Kawasaki. Although, i was hoping it would be a pure electric motor with the gas engine as a generator to produce the electricity.

@danielshook8502 my dealership has had them for ages. Problem is how much they cost. Noone wants to pay 12-15k for this performance, when you can spend that money on a super sport/liter bike. Theyll be phenomenal if theyre able to reduce the price point

    Well, great review Peter!
I currently have a 2013 Ninja 1000 and a 2020 Zero SR/F. It appears to me, I may have just found their OFFSPRING! It may be time for consolidation :)

I’m in love with this bike & what it means for the future of riding. The ability to switch from fully electric to hybrid without coming to a stop would be convenient. Is Kawasaki considering doing a cruiser version of this system? Thank you.

From Kawasaki's hybrid concept press photo it resembles the BMW 3 Series start/stop system where there is a generator on the drive belt and a 48V battery that allows for the engine to shut off in low load scenarios. For the BMW it results in a 12% increase in fuel efficient on the EPA's city driving rating.

Awesome machine. How nimble is it compared to a z650 ?

Looks proportional at that angle i dont think the angle the pictures kawasaki took were helping it

Thanks for covering the new electric/fuel Hybrid. It's expensive, but they have to start somewhere. Looks like a promising start.

Probably a little less nimble. The wheelbase is longer and the weight is higher, so that'll lead to something a bit less darty in the handling, but Kawasaki rarely makes a bike that doesn't handle well.

This is truly exciting to me! Kudos to Kawi for presenting everyday motorcyclists with a modern EV that we can really use as practical transportation. Can I start the bike and leave my neighborhood in the wee hours on my daily commute under EV-only power? And then, when I'm at the freeway, kick in the ICE power? That would be awesome. Thanks for the great review!!

Hi Peter; looks like a really good machine leading the class.
I'd be interested in how it actually feels when transitioning from EV to hybrid, and back. Also be good to understand the 'feel' when braking from EV mode.
The reason I say this is that (I know, no comparison!) sometimes I get an 'odd' feel in my SantaFe when braking at slow traffic speed. It's as though it jerks between recovery and actual brake... Hard to describe, but may be a worry in the wet - especially if you are pushing the limits a bit.
Also, how does the actual gear changing feel? Is it like a dual-wet-clutch auto? I hate those in a few cars that I tried - I prefer the proper torque converter automatic for smoothness (hence my car choice).
Thanks for the review - really enjoyed the detail.

I have a couple of questions about the transmission; Is this a DCT, CVT, or some form of e-clutch ? How many “gears” does the transmission have ? And will leaving it “in gear” when stopped keep it from rolling off when parked on a slope ?
It’s an interesting concept, and it’s good to see motorcycle manufacturers exploring different ideas.
I always enjoy your reviews as they are thoughtful and detailed, not just a regurgitation of the spec sheet from the web site. Keep up the good work !

Does the EV battery have a 8 year warranty like EV cars?

    • @PeterLoweOne
      @PeterLoweOne  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

It has an extended warranty, if I remember correctly. But I don't remember how long off the top of my head right now.

@@PeterLoweOne I tried to google it and all I found was 1 year warranty.

With the HEV being heavier than the regular 650, wouldn't that mean that taking 650 brakes and tires would lead to less braking performance (think stopping distance) than the 650? That would seem to be a performance aspect that would be less than a 650 if so.
Thanks for going into detail on these things!
