    Do NOT add brass, looks stunning without it !! More accurate to the style and era that it’s from without :) I LOVE the brass candles and brass plate that you have. So timeless

      I'd love to see short, squat round ball feet on the table, 3inch maybe. If they were brass, even better. 😊

    I think you’ll appreciate the layout of the couch if you put a sofa table behind it to ground the space. Because honesty I love it in front of the tv like that

    Hi MaCenna. I'm Australian. That style of furniture was everywhere here about 10 - 20 years ago. We called it the Balinese style. Many people holidayed in Bali and a lot of these hand-carved furntiure pieces came back and were very popular, especially in warm climate houses open to the heat and breezes.

    • @SashaBlondie6292
      @SashaBlondie6292 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought it was a bit like the Bali style. Especially the detail on the corners

    • @mezanian
      @mezanian ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The "Bali Style" was modelled on furniture trends from around the world. I knew a furniture retailer in Sydney that took photos and ideas to Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, India and Thailand in the 80s, the pieces were good, but fakes. Her "exclusive" boutique in Edgecliff sold out every delivery. Nothing is new. McCenna's table is a local hand made table, not a knock off. It's Spanish inspired.

    PERFECTION ✅
    I think a sofa table, behind the couch will add definition to the entry.
    Nothing new, nor that wooden plank one that everyone is using.
    I love funded used solid furniture pieces to complete my rooms.
    Saw an amazing odd piece yesterday that I’m contemplating.
    I click on your videos the second I see them!

    For remotes and things you don't want out all the time (and that go missing!!), a cute box or basket stowed underneath on the base of the table could work :)

    IF you keep the living room with the sofa where it is - I think a sofa table behind it would look really nice - you certainly have the space for it! And you could have a bowl or something to drop your keys in when you come thru the door? Just a thought! Coffee table looks great MaCenna - I like it straight wood with no brass. The trim you added looks like it was always there. As you said I think brass decor on the table will do the trick!! Also on the wall opposite the windows, next to the French doors - I was thinking a large mirror would look really nice hung on the wall to reflect that great light. Or I suppose even a large leaning mirror could work? One last thing I thought -tho you probably want to keep the bottom shelf- but I think the coffee table would look really nice without that bottom shelf so you could see those great chunky legs right on top of your beautiful rug!

    • @marytrokenberg3461
      @marytrokenberg3461 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree with you Jack…a table hugging the back of the couch would be great…it’s a large empty space when you first enter the house …a table would deal with that nicely and be very functional.

    • @marytrokenberg3461
      @marytrokenberg3461 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, absolutely no need for that bottom shelf …the legs would pop and a little less bulk would be fine!

    • @deannamiles6095
      @deannamiles6095 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If she took off the bottom, she could make the bottom shelf into a top for a sofa table behind the couch by cutting it in half long ways.

    • @Rebelhomeland
      @Rebelhomeland ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, a mirror & sofa table sounds wonderful. A different accent it really needs. And like you said so much space behind the sofa.

    • @marytrokenberg3461
      @marytrokenberg3461 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great idea Deanna! Use the bottom of the coffee table to make a thin entry table by cutting it in half!

    My mom’s family were carpenters and furniture makers in Texas. When working houses or furniture for people they would frequently save good pieces of wood from the trash. Your table reminds me a bit of some pieces I have that my great grandfather saved from a house that was being gutted. He just put everything together, added some parts that he made, and made a new piece of furniture. Parts of your table remind me of banister spindles.

    Reminds me of Jacobean style furniture…chunky, heavily carved and dark stained. I dare ya to look it up, you may just find a new obsession in furniture style. I love how ornate that particular style is. The table is beautiful! I appreciate people who take old things and reimagine a new life for it.

  • @SuzanneBaruch
    @SuzanneBaruch ปีที่แล้ว +48

    Regarding the style of your coffee table: you're right, it does have several different stylistic elements, but overall I'm leaning toward saying it's Spanish Mission Style. Most people think this is only a style of architecture, but it's not. Spanish Mission Style usually (but not always) features very chunky legs, dark stain, and hand carved detailing. That's my best guess! Also, if you ultimately decide you do want to add brass details, the Spanish Mission Style does often incorporate brass or bronze brads arranged into linear patterns, so that's an option.

    I think adding the brass decor items to the table looks so much more elegant, especially the first set up with the candlesticks. The feel like the brass strips gives the table a cheap 70's vibe.

    MaCenna, for really rough pieces of furniture, you can use 00 steel wool with the Restore-a-Finish. It doesn't scratch but really gets an even finish and pushes things into every ding.

    • @SarahPim
      @SarahPim ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually have never done just a paper towel- for all wooden furniture I do 0000 steel wool dipped in restor-a-finish. That’s how I learned about it- it cleans and buffs the wood as it restores it and always looks gorgeous after

    Hi McKenna! First time commenting! Like the way the coffee table turned out. As for brass, I wouldn’t put it on the top, but wonder if you could put it on the side, just under the curve of the edge of the table top. More subtle but gives it that bling that you are looking for. The furniture arrangement you ended up with, the couch facing the fireplace, is the best for the flow and for that space. As another comment mentioned a console table behind the couch will help anchor things and give you a flow from the entrance to put things down. Like your channel and enjoying the process of diy and decorating both of your homes!

    I think if you add the brass trim on the coffee table it will start to look like a picture frame (like a diy where someone takes a picture frame and attaches it to a table). I really like your idea of using a big brass tray on top. That will give you way more brass than you'd be able to add the to coffee table.

    Suggestion: if you want to add a touch of brass detail to the table and add the strips on the sides between each of the existing edge decorative details that appear on the sides (top portion on each sides). This would require you to router between each segment and inlay them. Especially since your strips are 3 feet long, you’d be able to use them on each of the sides, and trim them for each end. Glue and tap them into the grooves edge. This way everyone could see the pinstripe brass inlay detail from each angle, more so than if applied to the top.

    I love all of your videos! I think if you put brass elements on the table it’s fine

    I love the wooden trim only on the top with the brass decor… beautiful!
    What about a smaller trim on the underneath shelf? There’s something beautiful about those thin brass pieces but again in person it might be too much. Love it as is regardless 😍

    Love the table by itself. If you really wanted more brass, maybe just little trim corner pieces could be a nice balance with your accessories. 😊

      I love that idea. She has those gold corner pieces she got from some estate sale to DIY frames.

    I think a long entry way table behind the couch would look really nice. Break it up so you don’t just see the back of the couch from the kitchen

    You are such a diligent worker and so patient….a lot of work but the coffee table looks great. I personally like it without the brass trim. To me the brass makes it look too busy. The living room looks very cozy and well styled.🥰

    No Brass the table is beautiful as is.

    It's a beautiful piece on it's own. I'd leave the brass off and add pieces to the top to get that look your wanting. This way the brass pieces you decorate the coffee table with aren't fighting with the trim.

    You keep moving your living room furniture and trying new layouts. It's perfect where It is. You only need a skinny and tall table on the back of the sofa. That's what is turning you off.
    Your living room is looking more and more gorgeous. Can't wait to see It with trim

    Really coming along nicely. The coffee table really adds some nice "chunkyness" to the area. I would leave off the brass trim, l think. I have always loved a sofa table behind a sofa, with lamps, in an open areas. It seems to really finish off the coziness & pull it all together. It also would look pretty coming in the front door. Oh it's so much fun to play house!

    Absolutely can’t wait to see the whole living room come together! I was just thinking in my head, “I wonder when she’s gonna finish the trim around the windows and door?” And you said it would all come together soon I was like oh YAY!! ♥️🫶🏽

    I think the coffee table would look great with a piece of tempered glass to fit in the top area where you framed it out! It adds a little extra without adding something too contrasting like the brass.

    I love what you did to the table, MaCenna! No brass is my vote. It looks stunning in your space as is.
