Nice room. Don’t sell your system short. To many your system is High-end. During the 80’s I had my share of dbx and other processors. Now I am into vintage high end.
Just found your channel and discovered some great LPs which I'm hunting down on vinyl here in the UK. Please keep posting Kenny, you're a natural at this. 🙏
I love that fact that you still have some of your older gear. I've sold things over the years that I regret selling. I had a Klipsch and McIntosh system that I had bought at auction for pennies on the dollar and ended up selling it. I can't replace it for 5X the price nowadays.
Hey Kenny…what an incredible system. I can’t imagine listening to Coltraine’s Giant Steps in that room! Seems to me you’re own personal experience with music and knowledge of audio technology could have you working in a music production studio which leads me to a question and potential upcoming video on your channel. Are you familiar with Rudy Van Gelder’s recording studio and how it came about? In brief, he was an Optometrist with an interest in audio sound and technology…like you! Obviously, Van Gelder Studios went on to record many classic jazz albums but I’m curious to hear if you’re familiar with his journey. I’d love to see you do a video about him along with your thoughts as it seems you have much in common. Thanks for sharing your amazing audio equipment. Todd 👊
I appreciate your comments, thank you very much. I'm aware of the the Van Gelder studios but only on the level of a novice but it something that I definitely will learn a lot more about in the future. Thank you very much for your suggestion 😊.
And to think about how many hours I have wasted (and I am sure many others) agonising over how our rooms are set up and where our equipment is placed. Love that set up, Kenny.
@9:05 "DBX equipment I bought in the '80s" When the DBX 3BX III came out, I purchased it (I believe it was $500 -- which was worth a lot more back then, when I was working for close to minimum wage). I connected it to my Sony STR-V5 receiver, and I loved it. It gave the music the slam I was craving. The only drawback was that it did so across all frequencies. So loud mid-range frequencies, that were already mixed too loud, became even louder. On day, I brought the DBX box to my brother's house. He had a much better stereo than me. That was when I heard how bad my DBX box sounded. Yes, it did provide dynamic range expansion. But it was low quality in nature. Even keeping the DBX box set with minimal expansion, the fact that the signal was being processed by the DBX box, killed the sound quality (something my Sony receiver and my Radian Research speakers did not reveal). I have no idea what I did with that DBX box. It was great in my low-fi stereo, where I had no soundstage (did not even know what that was). But for a quality stereo, that DBX box was a sound quality killer. Perhaps DBX has better quality gear? My experience was with only one of their products.
I rarely ever use my DBX units these days but years ago I did and they sound was fine to my ears but like you, my system was not as good then as it is now. The DBX 3BX III units are very popular these days as some sell for over $1000 on the used market. Thank you very much for your comments and viewing my video, I really appreciate it.
Looks like you've optimized a limited space. I've had to do the same in my home as well. Any McIntosh equipment you land for ten bucks in a mega score. Stay blessed.
Beautiful system and room tour. Love how the BAT stuff sounds. Damn, you’ve got a museum of fantastic old HiFi gear. That Marantz 8B is such a classic and wonderful sounding amp, and the Technics SP-15 is another classic piece of HiFi gear. Can I ask what kind of tonearm you’ve got on it? I’ve never seen a pair of those Cascade speakers. My friend, Patrick, who’s got a great channel called The Vinyl Archivist, uses one of those sugarcubes. He takes some of the best sounding pressings and digitizes them. He’s got a site where you can listen to his hi res vinyl rips, and they sound amazing, especially through a good DAC. Thanks for the tour! Just when I thought it was over, you showed more! lol At least it’s seems you’ve got what’s truly important at the forefront of your life. Thanks again for the tour, Kenny! ✌️🔊😊🎶
Thank you very much for the kind comments and thanks for viewing my video. The tonearm came with the turntable and I believe the tonearm is a audio technica ATP 16T but I am not totally sure 😊
Excellent setup man, impressive record collection, Thank You for sharing 👍🏾 BTW I’m a diehard Lakers fan also, I used to live all over SoCal , Riverside , San Diego etc , joined the Army left Cali, saw the world 4 deployment’s and retired 21yrs later at JBLM in Washington state.
Kenny stunning gear wow never seen those speakers before I know it sounds spectacular just from the look I really enjoyed that tour brother . Lovellandrew
Rod, I'll get entered sometime in early November. I've got an interesting twist for the question that must be answered. I think it would be funny if at some point in the Stevie Nicks to Bill Evans boxset flipping challenger that you flip another Bill Evans record.
I love the sound of the luxman DAC, as it produces a nice detailed Soundstage to my old ears 😊. There are probably some better alternatives these days but I am going to stay loyal to my luxman. Thank you very much for viewing my video
Rocking the Nak Dragon, hopefully, it's fully functional. I recommend selling the equipment that you don't use or need to free up space and raise cash.
@9:43 "Nackmichi Dragon" I always wanted that tape deck. I believe it cost $2,000 back then (which is approximately $6,000 today). Its auto tape BIOS and auto azimuth functionality must be great. It would have been the ideal way to create tapes for a car stereo, or even a home compilation of songs, when you did not want to keep changing records. You also have reel-to-reel decks. That was something else that I always wanted, but was way out of my budget. With the right tapes, it is a vinyl killer!
You are correct about the reel to reel decks, if they are working properly and with a good tape they sound amazing. I have had my nakamichi dragon for about 25 years and my reel to reel decks for at least 35 years.
@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews Although the Dragon was out of my reach, I managed to buy the CR-7A (just below the Dragon), and still have it. I believe that after 10 or 15 years, some rubber pulley part(s) hardened and crumbled, rendering the deck inoperable. As best I can recall, there was a store named Stereo Exchange, and they did repairs. I think that they charged $40, and my deck has been happy ever since. They told me that their replacement parts will never fail. Time has shown their claim to be truthful. Have you had to have your Dragon serviced?
I would say that is well above a mid-fi system. I would be embarrassed to display my sound system (LOL). Money wise I guess my system will always be a "Low-Fi" system. Same cartridge/stylus, but an Audio Technica AT-LP120XBT-USB and due to a small room I have to share my PC with my Music so I unfortunately have to run my music through a Quad style PC Logitech Z906 system. Yep, I have over 800 albums cataloged over at DISCOGS with many being originals and audiophile and I'm stuck with this system. Hopefully before I die I can listen to my sound in a better environment. Thanks for the tour. I'm jealous/envious.
I am sure that you will be blessed with a fantastic system of your choice at some point in your life. Thank you very much for the kind words and taking the time to view my video, it is much appreciated 😀
Hello sir. I wanna buy a CD and Cassette unit, what would you recommend? I've been told the Tascam CD A580 and Teac AD-850 are good. But I wonder if this models would read both old and new CDs? Are there other units you would recommend?
I slam not familiar with CD unit's that also contains a cassette deck but according to what I found on the internet, both of the units that you mentioned has good reviews 👍
The items that I use mostly are the BAT tube amp, pass labs preamp, luxman DAC, sony SACD player, sony HAP-Z1ES, my turntables, and sugarcube sc-2 plus. The remaining items that I purchased way back in the day, I used them then but I rarely (hardly ever) use them now. The only items that I use occasionally are the Carver C9, phase linear amp, marantz tube amp, Nakamichi dragon cassette deck and the reel to reel decks. Thank you very much for viewing my video 😊

Thank you very much for your comments and viewing my video, I really appreciate it.
cool equipment, i just can't imagine what a room twice the size could do for you though
Looks like you've optimized a limited space. I've had to do the same in my home as well.
Any McIntosh equipment you land for ten bucks in a mega score.
Stay blessed.
Thank you very much...you stay blessed as well
Beautiful system and room tour.
Excellent setup man, impressive record collection, Thank You for sharing 👍🏾
BTW I’m a diehard Lakers fan also, I used to live all over SoCal , Riverside , San Diego etc , joined the Army left Cali, saw the world 4 deployment’s and retired 21yrs later at JBLM in Washington state.
Thank you very much for your service and GO LAKERS 😁
Congratulations Kenny. I found someone crazier than me. 🤣
😄😁😊
Kenny, mind blowing system.
Kenny stunning gear wow never seen those speakers before I know it sounds spectacular just from the look I really enjoyed that tour brother . Lovellandrew
Thank you very much 😊
Hard to see how such a small room could have good acoustics.
It's amazing....I am truly blessed 😊😁✌️
this is awesom sistem and collection.✌
Thanks ✌
what a cool room!
Thank you very much 😊
awesome man....
😁
Rod, I'll get entered sometime in early November. I've got an interesting twist for the question that must be answered. I think it would be funny if at some point in the Stevie Nicks to Bill Evans boxset flipping challenger that you flip another Bill Evans record.
Love it!
Thank you very much, I really appreciate that 😊
Great system, sir! If this is mid-fi, then my system is a clock radio with no clock.
😊😁
Thank you Kenny. Salt of the earth!
Thanks you very much Dan 😊
Wow. Some nice equipment. How does the Luxman DAC sound? I'm becoming intrigued by their stuff lately.
I love the sound of the luxman DAC, as it produces a nice detailed Soundstage to my old ears 😊. There are probably some better alternatives these days but I am going to stay loyal to my luxman. Thank you very much for viewing my video
Have you done a video about your reel to reel tapes?
Not yet, but I do not have to many...I appreciate your suggestion 😊
Rocking the Nak Dragon, hopefully, it's fully functional. I recommend selling the equipment that you don't use or need to free up space and raise cash.
The dragon works fine and it is awesome. Thank you very much for viewing my video 😄
Kenny, if your system is mid-fi as you say, mine is a very-low-fi. 🙂
@9:43 "Nackmichi Dragon"
I always wanted that tape deck.
Mine was serviced once since I had it
I would say that is well above a mid-fi system.
Great
Thank you 😊 ✌️
Great room Kenny!
Thank you
You ARE an audiophile, no excuses, sorry. Great stuff, i enjoyed it very much. Subscribed!
Oh yeah for sure I am a audiophile for sure...just not a high end audiophile 😁 Thank you very much for viewing my channel, I really appreciate it
Your a good man
Thank you very much 😊
Still going to be a SC fan once they join the big 10? Nice tour, I tell my daughter I love her more than the stereo too lol!
I love the comment about your daughter lol 😆...I will be a SC fan when they join the big 10 for sure 😁
Really nice system.
You are the Boss
😁😄
Wow! Love it. Thanks for sharing.
Nice collection of equipment, do you actually use any of it besides your main Amp and preamp?
The items that I use mostly are the BAT tube amp, pass labs preamp, luxman DAC, sony SACD player, sony HAP-Z1ES, my turntables, and sugarcube sc-2 plus. The remaining items that I purchased way back in the day, I used them then but I rarely (hardly ever) use them now. The only items that I use occasionally are the Carver C9, phase linear amp, marantz tube amp, Nakamichi dragon cassette deck and the reel to reel decks. Thank you very much for viewing my video 😊
