Fix Old Cameras: Mamiya DTL Battery Wire

  • The battery wire disconnects from the battery contact of a Mamiya DTL. Corrosion over times degrades the battery wire of a Mamiya DTL or TL until it separates from the battery contact. The corroded condition of the wire is such that it will not take solder. This video demonstrates an option for replacing the battery wire without removing the prism and mirror box to route the wire to the battery chamber.

It's good to see a video from you. I'm still recuperating from my non-covid brush with the great beyond. I'm working on a new shop and will soon be back to my camera collecting and repair hobby. Have a wonderful holiday season and let's hope for a great New Year. Regards Tom.

Hi. This is an idea for a future video: May you show us your video setup? I think that would be very useful to record our disassemblies for when a little piece fly away from its site. Your close-ups are great.
    Thank you.

I would love to see some Leicaflex SL2 videos from you. Not enough out there on the SL2.
What gauge wire do you suggest for this? I need to replace the battery wire in my SL2 for the same reason as this video.

Every time you take a top cover off of a camera, I remember why cameras were (and are) so expensive: look at all that stuff in there!

Hey guys, nice work here. Would you share the spanners / screwdrivers used on these repairs? I've damaged a couple of screws before and hoping to do it the right way next time.
    Thanks for sharing the process!

You are awesome! Great repairing stuff! I have a simple question and hope you are kind enough to answer.
    - I bought 3 cheap but very cool Russian cameras from Russia! When I opened the boxes the case of camera had some dirt and I guess some mold on the leather case and on camera!!I believe dirt and mold passed on the camera maybe in it too! Would you suggest me with what solution I can deal with them and clean them? Isopropyl Alcohol 99.9% is good enough? Anything else?
Thank you so much! It was a pain to find anything!

It is not fun to find cameras in such neglected condition. Alcohol is the best for safe use. With extra care to the camera and yourself you can dilute bleach or peroxide to 3 or 4 parts distilled water.
