I absolutely agree! When I saw the first footage of the Remaster, I didn’t see a difference at all. I think back then those graphics were just how all games looked and my brain got used to „polishing“ everything we saw.

The older background looks more rounded. 1:02 compare those two for example. The game is made to be seen with pixelated graphics. They should have remodeled those too.
Only the 3D models are fully remastered. The movies are fairly upscaled. But all the scene backgrounds are just merely upsampled and got blurred which are worse than untouched, very disappointing for this part.
I am glad the characters and the cut scenes got remastered. I get why people are pissed about the background not being remastered too. it would of been nice if they did the same to the background as they did to the characters

If you play the original one on PC (Steam Version) with the 4k texture resolution pack and 30 FPS battles mod, the original Flac quality music mod and Ragnarock Gameplay mod (balances the game a lot while making enemies more comptetent but still fair), you get the perfect remaster already... for FREE, you just need some sleight-of-hand to set it up. You get the PS1 version ISO? No prob, retroarch will FIX the graphic PS1 bugs (polygon dithering and shaking), you can play it up to 8k if you want and and there are lot of good gameplay mods to make the game more balanced or balanced AND hardtype. Also FUCK SONY for forcing Square to censor Siren and Rinoa,WTF, Siren is like my favourite summon ever she looked beautiful in the original she looks like a SKANK in the remaster too.
The only positive to draw from this is that Square have not fully forgotten FF8. But it's far too little and far too late. The fact that I can already up the resolution or mod in different models (or emulate the PS1 version) is one thing. The fact that Squall's entire face and hair have been reimagined makes me want it even less. The game is old enough that viewing it in a larger resolution won't make it any easier on the eyes. I really didn't think it was beyond them to give the battlefields and overworld a polygonal facelift.
They put a sort of blur on the texture for the environment that give the feeling it's less detailed than the pixelized one of the original version. The charcters and the monsters are better, even the cinematics, but for the rest it feel a bit like lazy remaster.
Man original looks so much better, even in the original resolution. Use an emulator to play it in 1080p, sure it's much better. Look at 1:00 and you see how crappy is the new version.
i only see upscaled resolution (the epsxe already can do that for free) an some texture filter for the backgrounds (i insist, the epsxe can do that already)

This version is not worth it, you will have better character models but the backgrounds will still be blurry The best way to play it would be on a small screen like the switch or S deck, so the bg doesn't end looking as blurry as on a big tv or monitor
we can get much nicer results if play on emulator using 4x ,6x internal graphics,video filter and shader.... atleast some textures will not get deleted from the game😑😑

Best version is the switch version because of the small screen and lower resolution, it's not so jarring seeing the new character models against the poor backgrounds in handheld mode.
Well, it was originally released on the PS1, not the PS2, so I guess that's a compliment? But seriously, some scenes seem to look better and benefit from the treatment, others.... really needed to be retextured but weren't.

Some programs like Topaz's Gigapixel AI would have really helped remastered textures and cutscenes shame they didn't use it.

First time I ever played final fantasy it was ff7. Before playing, I was like what is this nerdy crap. I played it and got hooked on ff ever since.
