You probably missed out on parts of Roger's solo career. This is from "Open the Door", which you had to order from France (back when, on CD). By the way, this whole album is a must for any Supertramp fan… ;-)
I agree ! Roger nowadays plays "Death and a Zoo" and this beauty "Along came Mary" almost every concert, but I would love to hear the titelsong "Open the door" live :-)
Roger is a true master of a skill I tried to work with myself in my songwriting decades ago - the skill of BUILDING a song, an atmosphere, in an almost hypnotic way. Starting really quiet, and then building layer after layer, increasing intensity, sucking the listener in. Despite of the many repetitions, it doesn't ever get boring because you always know a new layer will be introduced very shortly, and you admire how it blends in and adds to the combined soundscape.
One of those very characteristic and unique voices - Roger is a marvellous singer! I saw him a few weeks ago and my, oh my, he's just getting better and better. I've been listening to Supertramp for ages and the concert was the very first time I ever heard this song. And wow, it blew me away...Totally enchanting!
Roger Hogdson is a total revelation to me. This is from the OPEN THE DOOR album Roger put out in 1999. It's such a beautiful song and so many of his earlier songs are my all time favorites: Breakfast in America, The Logical Song, The Long Way Home, Dreamer, Give A Little Bit (all of them performed by Roger but recognized by many as Supertramp songs). Roger Hogdson is the genius behind them all as he was the original composer, writer as well as the voice, guitar, etc of ST's record chart hits.
And they should be recognized as Supertramp songs as well. I'm not quite sure what your oddly worded message means, but if not for Rick Davies & the others, Hodgson might well have remained an unknown. Davies & Hodgson were both as important as each other when it comes to Supertramp's brilliance. It's that kind of balance & harmony that makes great things happen (not one or the other).
this has got to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written.. it hits u straight in the heart, and clogs up the eyes.. respect to you roger and thanks so much for this..
This beautiful song by Rodger Hodgson is so comforting and mesmerising. Have love his solo songs and Supertramp for decades, what genius talent he has.
I've been really fortunate to have seen him, very close! Just to remember that day I get butterflies in my stomach again .... Roger is unique, I love him so much!!
Just saw Roger live last night. Amazing show from an amazing human. I never heard this song before last night and now that I heard it I am hooked. Beautiful. Thank you for all the wonderful music Roger
@@norwegianzound Nothing from Rick or Supertramp for 22 years, big difference. Since 1983 Roger and Supertramp had the same amount of Billboard top 100 charting songs. Supertramp's was a dance hit.
I love this song - I saw him as well performing this in North Germany at the Baltic Sea - had a shower on my neck. Big thanx to Roger and his fantastic music :-))
Thank you so much for your music that you have shared with me on my journey through life. I will always love the songs you shared with me. Bless you my friend.
Thanks for the love and support . I decided to take out time today out of my busy schedule to get close to my fans and know their thoughts towards my career and I came across you through my official TH-cam CHANNEL insight.
[Intro - Princess Elizabeth's 1940 wartime broadcast] "I can truthfully say to you all, that we children at home are full of cheerfulness and courage. We are trying to do all we can to help our gallant sailors, soldiers and airmen. And when peace comes, remember, it will be for us, the children of today, to make the world of tomorrow a better and happier place. My sister is by my side and we are both going to say goodnight to you. Come on, Margaret. Goodnight, children. Goodnight, and good luck to you all." Was alone then along came Mary Hair of gold and lips like cherries Was amazed when she stole my thunder Filled my world with the ways of wonder Come away, come away with me Far away where the eyes can't see Come away to another time Pardon me if you lose your mind Who are you now? Who makes the rules? Follow your heart and get back... Won't you get back... Oh get back Was alone then along came Mary Hair of gold and lips like cherries Was amazed when she stole my thunder Filled my world with the ways of wonder Come away come away with me Far away where the eyes can't see Come away to another time Pardon me if you lose your mind Pardon me if you lose your mind Pardon me if you lose - if you lose your mind
AWESOME!!!!!! This song just goes straight to my heart and brings tears to my eyes. Rogers sings with such passion and depth. I saw him in concert last year and when he performs it feels like he is sitting in your living room it's so intimate and real. Thanks Roger for so many years of great songs. My absolute favorite is Even in the Quietest Moments. Something about that song just takes me on a beautiful journey every time I hear it. LOVE YOU ROGER!!!!
great tune .thanks for sharing..always loved it when i first heard it..the lyrics are genius..roger knows....he has the voice of god.......cheers eh...ken
Seb
Roger is for me, the best.musicoan, composer and singer of our time He ix as fantastic now as in the 70s , 80s or 90s. He is really the one of a kind! His song are heavenly and his voice is unique! He still makes me feel life is worth living . Even as regsrds his outward appearance, Roger is so special, his beautiful, friendly smile,.... What a man! What a lovely human being!
@jjpalomo1994 It's the then Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret in a World War 2 message. There's some black and white B.B.C. T.V. coverage of this mini speech somewhere in the archives.
He is certainly awesome, but to say that he "is Supertramp" is all wrong. His collaboration with Rick Davies & the rest of the band is what made Supertramp so extraordinary. So many great Davies songs in there as well. I never liked their stuff much after Famous Last Words because Hodgson's departure was too great a loss.
One of the best musicians in our time. Do you AGREE
could not agree more.
Very much so (especially with Supertramp). But this is his finest solo piece for me. Truly classic!
Agree❣️🍀🍀🍀
Absolutely! A brilliant musician.
Roger Hodgson, great artist. Agree!
This is my favorite version of Along Came Mary. Love the bagpipes in this one, really touches me deeply.
Would just love to see Roger live.....please tour again. I'll travel anywhere for chance.this guy is just so do good.
The intro with the queen's war speech is haunting. So good
amazing song! i have been a supertramp fan since 78 and can't believe i haven't heard this solo roger song until now. i truly missed out.

Eye of the Storm is great too

Been a fan of supertramp since the seventies when roger left he took the sound with him i'm 63 now and still get Goosebumps when i hear him sing
Gorgeous winds indeed And somes pics about his youth are really beautiful

I didn't know music like this existed in the world. I am enthralled, astounded, inspired. Thank you for sharing this beautiful song.
Roger is still touring. Try to see a show....you'll be amazed :-)
MUST be shared ! Anyway will do. People are now so IN NEED. Which way will you share it. I'll tell mine ! Thank you for the video !
Ditto. It's the only original album version left on YT. Your comment covers it all quite beautifully (-:

Don't you have the album?
Wow what a voice,beautiful song.
Tremendous talent. Great album. Wonderful follow-up to Eye Of The Storm
Only took him 15 years. Nothing from him for the past 24 years. Without Davies he shrunk.

Was alone then along came Mary
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
Was amazed when she stole my thunder
Filled my world with the ways of wonder
Come away, come away with me
Far away where the eyes can't see
Come away to another time
Pardon me if you lose your mind
Who are you now?
Who makes the rules?
Follow your heart and get back...
Won't you get back...
Oh get back
Was alone then along came Mary
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
Was amazed when she stole my thunder
Filled my world with the ways of wonder
Come away come away with me
Far away where the eyes can't see
Come away to another time

this reminds me of Barclay James Harvest's " hymn", this obsessive 12 strings guitar that gives you the impression of flying over the clouds ... magic
