Soon ~ Yes, from the album Relayer

- "The Gates of Delirium" is the first track on Yes's 1974 album, Relayer. Based on Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace,[1] the song begins with a prelude, which leads into a lengthy instrumental section (beginning at about the 8 minute mark) representing the battle. The final section (entitled "Soon"), released as a single in 1975, is a very gentle, soothing prayer for peace and hope which represents the aftermath of the battle. Before the re-issue of Tales from Topographic Oceans or In a Word: Yes (1969 - ), this was the longest officially released studio recording by the band with almost 22 minutes, taking up the entire first side of the LP. ~ Wikipedia

Ours to shape for all time, ours the right
The sun will lead us

My dad always played this album when i was little he would alway have tears in his eyes . Sadly he no longer with us now i know why . Love and miss you dad xx
Thank you for sharing your love with us.
How strange, i was in the Army stationed in Hong Kong when my father died . Just 2 weeks before Yuletide . I got back in time . I found that my mother had bought the Album on tape , and was going to send it to me , knowing i was a fan and did not yet have it.Even now it has the power to bring those days into my minds eye , and tears to the other ones .
🙏
Really. Many ....The version before is too much more❤

This was the last song I played for my sister, as she was passing away. We were both huge yes fans and I think she was actually humming along at the end. I hope someone is kind enough to play it for me when my time comes.
Someone will.
I think it will be the soundtrack playing as you awaken from this Earthly dream, assuring your Rest was in Peace.
when your time is nigh, your sister will be there to help you move on.
❤
Both heartbreaking and heartwarming. So very sad for your loss, yet such a beautiful way of sharing her passing.
They just dont make music as good as this anymore 73 yrs. old and still a yes fan
Fellow old timer yes fan. Check out Wolf Alice from London, England. The song blush is simple but beautiful. RIP Chris Squire!
I bet you will enjoy Ayreon - Isis and Osiris
For six minutes, no room for hate in any part of my soul.
Not me, I HATE that it ends.

Rock in Rio January, 23, 1985. This song reminds me that night .I was there !! Wonderful night with YES closing the Festival. Jon Anderson's voice still gives me chills.
This song made me cry in the '70s and it still does. It's perfect.
Yes Michael...it is perfect!! I'm a 62 year old Canadian guy who has loved Yes forever, and I too can't listen to this song without crying. I also think it's a combination of all the band mates creating an incredible atmosphere, and mood. Take care Michael, and good health to you!!
Man, the exact same thing, still does. Jon Anderson is the voice of an era, an eon , an epoch.
I sorta got obsessed with this song as a kid of 10. It kept ringing in my head and seemed so haunting. I probably just heard it on the radio. At that time you had to go and by the record if you wanted it on repeat (And that wasn't an optionas a 10 year old) I only got my first Yes album many years later when "Owner of a lonely heart" came to rule the world
I’m a 67 year old Yes fan
The 70's? I was suspecting maybe the 90's holy crap! This sounds like something you'd see next to the visuals of interstellar. Look man I'm 14 but my mom has been playing this one since I was a baby
THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFULL PIECE OF MUSIC I EVER HEARD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE ¡¡ LONG LIVE TO JON ANDERSON ¡¡¡¡
👍 Agreed!' 🍄🔑🧩🧠
It means you are ready to explore classic musical. I recommend Handel and baroque music. I am a big fan of Yes, but believe me, you dont know what you are missing with baroque music. Both are beautiful. Go with Il Penseroso by Handel, masterpiece. Somehow Yes music reflects on this, harmonies, and soprano / tenor voice.
@@arielmorandy8189 Ok let me see.Tks
Welcome to YES my friend.
@@christopherwheat1288 Tks bro, I've been listening to Yes since I was 12 yo, today I'm 61.
It was such privilege to be surrounded by music like this back in the 1970's at university. Only now can one realise how great this time and music was
I wish I was around back then. Discovered them by myself recently. There’s no other band like Yes
Listening to this feels like standing in a sacred place.
Yeah, like in the middle of close to the edge! Yes absolutely floors me, they were so amazing
It sure does. I was going through a sacred place (Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite), so I felt like playing this celestial song.
I want this played at my funeral
Yes. Cremated. Spread my ashes over all the rappers with this!
@Belladonic Haze played this at my mum's funeral, many tears.
Me too
Wow. My same exact thought! I remember when this album came out, and always associate it with beautiful winter nights and sparkling snow. I saw Yes on their Relayer (Jon Anderson pronounced it "re-LAY-er") tour in Denver in 1975, where they played this live.
So at mine!
Soon oh soon the time will be forty years since I fell in love with this song.
I believe you fell in love for 40 years now, don't ya?

So relaxing, calming and soothing. Just listen to this masterpiece and feel all your troubles, cares and woes, literally melt away.
for me this album is one of the best ever made. Absolutely brilliant
R.I.P Chris Squire...thank you for the music and the inspiration.
He is greatly missed.. a talent that will never be repeated on this earth..
I' ve always loved this song since I was younger. To me this is the answer of God to us. It gets you high close to Him. Beautiful song ever.
It sounds so pure, so beautiful!
It happens quite rare in rock music, that one becomes a spiritual feeling of awakening. Great music!
It happens all the time listening to Yes & The Moody Blues & Peter Gabriel's Genesis.
This the beautiful trademark of YES's Music!
I hope with whole my heart this is what my son was thinking his last minutes on earth. Just before he left this world in search of a better place to go on. Mis him so much...
i love "in search of a better place to go on" bless you and your son
Anderson's voice has never been so ethereal.
Une voix à tomber !!!
If this music doesn't feed your soul energy. Nothing will..God Bless you all!!!!
Do not need blessing from a made up person..
The very first time I heard this all those years ago, I thought I was in heaven! This certainly is unearthly...

Not only the greatest thing Yes has made. Probably the greatest most relaxing song ever.
i feel like i have failed this world, and lost all the purpose of living, but listening to this song gives me energy to go on. thanks for uploading this man =)
Stay alive, watch the sun rise, keep it simple for a while. It will go better! Life is a one-time gift. Keep it as much as possible!
I grew up with this song. It's hauntingly beautiful.
All of Yes are great songs...and even though this is one of their simplest ones !?! it is my favorite ! All Yessongs are very spiritual to me...they have deep Impact...they touch my Heart & Soul...!!!
I agree
Best word's
It's simplicity perhaps comes from the slower pace and not that many chords nor chords with that many extensions but the d minor to g major movement perhaps implies dorian harmony? It's really nice. The slide parts aren't that easy either to play clean :) Fantastic ambitious lyrics too.
Me too. Well 😁
I meant me to well said 😁
I am asking this to be played at my funeral...TOTALLY SUBLIME MUSIC...70'S PROG ROCK AT ITS ABSOLUTE BEST...A TIMELESS AND DEEPLY MOVING MASTERWORK:)...incredible band.
Great idea at your funerall
This song is so beautiful that it is haunting. This was one of my uncle's favorite pieces of music before cancer claimed him. I was only five when that happened, and now when we play this song, we always think of him. It's a song that's been near and dear to me for as long as I am able to remember. It's etched into my soul, this song.
Completely breathtaking thank you Yes
I was 19 years old and had to go through a little operation (hernia). I had my Sony Walkman (yes - THE WAY to listen to music at the time) with me. I instructed the nurse to place my Sennheiser phones on my head and press the play button after I'd come from the operation, dizzy with anasthetics. - And she did so! - That was the song I heard - THE GATES OF DELIRIUM! Unforgettable especially the end! -"Soon" really makes you cry when you hear it at the end of all that battle music.
if you don't get high on this music you'll never fly......
But just the music itself, no additional substances! Cos the music is enough on its own....

Haha, once back in the early eighties I was listening to 'Close To The Edge' on an FM radio station playing a block of album rock- I was tripping at the time, and I swore at the time that the music was making me 'peak' in my high. My friend who was driving the car just laughed at me..
What a beautiful song. I loved it the moment I first heard it.
Simply awesome!
jon's voice just blows you away
Like fine cut crystal, amazing voice
I'm humbled at this musical magnificence.

My favorite two Yes songs To be Over+ Soon it takes me back to my Teens following Yes all over Tri State area + beyond been listening+ attending Awesome Concerts since 70-71 Thanks for beautiful Music it got me through some dark times.
Me too. Except I was too young to live that while it happened, while it was happening...
As a true Yes aficionado, I can say that the music from 5:25 onward is beyond spellbinding and beyond this earth. I know their music intimately and this is the masterpiece among masterpieces. Bravo!
+C Wade , a few years back i actually had a parallel reality sort of experience whilst listening 2 this song while praying 4 my sick lover.... & the experience was clearly not of this earth. we existed somewhere else @ the very same time in a surreal light infused environment filled w/total peace & divine love. it will never cease to blow my mind. my entire perception of the nature of reality changed in that moment b/c the experience felt more real then the dense reality that i am/was presently in. blessed 2 have had the experience, truly.....
Beyond time and space.
Amen toi that!!

First few notes from that point sound like a bit of Genesis from the previous year... Firth of Fifth, from Selling England by the Pound.
I'm not worried, I'm sure it's just a coincidence. ;-)
I'm 59 today grew up with yes in my life amazing
How many the nights when this song brought me through to the sun rise.
It has been years since last the music of yes lifted me beyond the weight of everyday living.
Thank you so much for the "Light".
sang this to my newborn children while nursing them at night... they were my reason to be here .I LOVE YES, and Jon Anderson
Since Alan passed on today, I thought, "what is my favorite Yes moment that had Alan playing on it?" And this was the obvious answer. His contribution is very minimal, but it is perfect. And it is such a positive, optimistic song. Yep.
Calm and Peace after a frightening war...
Saw this comcert in 75 in Cleveland OH when I was 20. It still brings joy and tears to my eyes to this day. Beautiful. ❤
The whole song is amazing, I love their longer pieces, but this part I could listen to over and again.
TOTALLY.....!!!!!!!
This song gave me chills fifty years ago and still does. Thank you, YES.

I just can't listen to it. Sometimes is just too much to break my mind in pieces
A GREAT piece of music! Powerful vocals by one of the greatest but underrated singers, Jon Anderson. And, oh, the guitar wizardry of Steve Howe.
+James Lauth underrated ? Jon ? why ?
+Daniel Roland When ever they talk of singers in rock, i never hear Jon Anderson's name mentioned. So, in my opinion, he deserves more recognition.
+James Lauth sure !!!! i agree
+Daniel Roland such a beautiful voice. never hear it. very underatted
Yes I love Howe turning a pedal-steel into something psychedelic and otherworldly.
That pedal steel guitar....... Gorgeous. In this, and 'Going for the One', Steve showed the C&W folk how to REALLY play it.
He is a virtuoso on guitars
@@billseely991 A player invited by Brian May to play guitar on a Queen album must be a virtuoso. And Steve certainly is one, along with at least two other Steves (one H. and one R.). By the way, Howe collaborated with Hackett and Hackett did with Rothery (with May too) so there are enjoyable links between the three greats.
Steve Howe, one of the greatest and most versatile. And… a decent humble man
Just pure magic, love it love it love it, for 40 years loved it still as good today as it was on first listen.
I could die happy listening to this gem.
Give this music the space it needs and it will take you to high spheres... No need for images of any kind, just close your eyes... No need for drugs whatsoever...
Definitely a climax in the history of Prog Rock...
Thank you for posting and
Thank You All, Yes!
Patricio Sicardi wish I could give this 111 thumbs up😇
Wise words
I saw this whole concert, it was fucking amazing, when it was over the lights came on and everyone was standing in bliss.....never seen anything like it....the original Relayer was probably the best show I have ever seen.
Scott Broussard lucky ;(
Drugs helped in the 70's, but in my 60's now and no drugs are needed for this to take me away
love it, fantastic, greatest prog band ever, a five piece orchestra, perfect in every way
Steve Howe at his imperious best , A magical song .
Howe transforms a pedal steel guitar into something otherworldly.
I'm not sure what 'imperious' means, but I'll agree that this is some of his best work in Yes...
This is one of the most beautiful sections of music I've ever heard!
Thanks for sharing with the world!
Breathtakingly beautiful. I can never get enough of this beauty.
Thank you
A master piece from 20th century!!
My Favorite YES song !!! Even though it's the least of all the YES songs...!!! To me alot of their stuff is very SPIRITUAL...!?! YES...!!!
Amazing guitar from Steve Howe. Beautiful!
Like a previous comment it was a privilege to be alive and witness a great, evocative piece of music that touches all aspects that make us human. I still get tingles when I listen. It takes me back to my early 20's listening to it in a darkened room with my girlfriend at uni. I can sti dme her perfume. Happy days
We'll never get music like this ever again.
Probably not. I'm afraid so too.
And yet, Who knows?
When I was 17 and heard this song I ´ve cried as child. Is there possible to made this song like this? It came to Yes from heaven.
I was 15 when I bought the record , still have it after travelling over Europe and a divorce
As much as I love a lot of earlier Yes songs, this is still my favorite.
A beautiful prayer for peace. An elegy, a requiem. Chill out and take your time with this piece. Finishes on a surprising and delightful final note.
This is the song that really got me into Yes when I was only 11 years old and they’ve been my favourite band ever since. Soon is a masterpiece that sounds as beautiful now as it did the very first time I heard it. Yes are the greatest band of all time.
Relayer - so ahead of it's time

I agree YES puts our future into lyrics...actually our present day today...they saw it.. now we just have to gather the lights 😇
Relayer is not my favourite Yes LP, but this tack is beautiful and The Gates of Delirium is amazing!
I have been a Yes fan since the 1970's, and I still am!
Some of the comments have been very sad, but they all revolve around a shared love of this amazing band!
Thank you for spreading the word.
Relayer is the seventh studio album from the English progressive rock band Yes, released in 1974 on Atlantic Records. It is the only Yes studio album to feature Patrick Moraz, who replaced keyboardist Rick Wakeman earlier in the year. Relayer reached #4 in the UK (remaining 8 weeks in the Top 40) and #5 in the US (remaining 16 weeks in the Top 200

Amazing relief, after the chaos of the holy war....which might be all only in our minds...Oswego, I'm listening to it now. Choked with emotion.. love is all and love you all. Wish it didn't have to be this way...it'll be fine..this is the great hope we must bear in our hearts, and try to live our lives by... Oh. Enough!!! Let me go...I have more to say, and I will say it someday. Soon.
Awesome...!!! Never get tired of hearing this...Best Yes Ever...!!!
Steve with his solo fully feedbacks on Johns vocal painting. The return back home. Steves solo introspected, humble yet unique and brilliant all around. Blessed.
Yes. This music brings tears of happiness to my eyes. Why?
It conjures up a feeling of peacefully rising towards a heavenly bliss surrounded by answers and love for everything in the universe.
It fills my soul with hope, faith and serene happiness. Patiently and contently I wait to be there.
The song ends too soon.
This is why I like 70's Yes . . .
Same, they ruined themselves with Drama and 90125
@@cmbestkey8114 And now we have a band called 'Yes', with just a single member from the time they were at their best. So, in my opinion, they are currently just another 'tribute' band . . .

Magnificent in all its splendor! Bless these boys! They have soothed me all my adult life. Hugs
Finding you have chosen to upload this transported me back in time to when I first sang this standing in the outside brick shed I wanted to live in as a youth the sun beaming in on me. I am still singing this out loud to myself (and now my dogs) after all this time. I have often found myself in the middle of the fields that are between the mountains and the sea where I live singing Soon oh Soon the light at the top of my voice and I always will. After listening to this after all these years I now know why I felt the need, urge, want to levitate alone in the field I can now close my eyes and dream of flying. Thank you
Listening to soon without the rest of gates of delirium is like eating dessert without the main course. It's sweet enough that you'll probably enjoy on its own but it's even better with the rest of the meal ;)
Outstandingly beautiful..... Yes made some wonderfully melodic music......
Started listening back in 1971 to them...

the most thought provoking lyrics on this piece! .......like our lives here on this mortal coil, are lived thru a dark and testing time......eventualy, all that we ever experienced here on earth, being revealed "soon" by the light. we will all realise "our reason to be here".
I honestly think they don't want us to know why we're here It's a lock mystery.
Our reason to be here
