    TH-cam brings me back to this. One of my favorites. I have hillsides. A ravine is inaccessible except by a fourwheeler on the edge of my property. Someday I want to get a tractor down there. So I study this art of hillside road cutting...

    We always welded short pieces of pipe to the tractor wheels around the valve stems to protect them. It works great. Be carful not to burn through thin wheels. I did that once but I just filled the hole back up with weld and it never leaked (front tire no fluid using 1/8" 6011`s 6013`s or mig woulda been better ). Big suprise when the air blew out the hole in the rim though.

    I just happened to come across and subscribed. I have been looking into getting a tractor or a skidsteer for doing mainly this type of work. I have 30 acres in Kentucky and most of it is steep hill side it was logged about 20 years ago. Most the old log roads are in decent shape ive cleared alot of the brush with a blade on my weedeater. but a couple of the roads have ruts some big enough i can stand in i just built a new trail around them and use my fourwheeler with no problem. If you had to choose on equipment would you opt for a skidsteer or stick with a tractor on the steep terrain.

    • @khtractors
      @khtractors  ปีที่แล้ว

      For me a tractor for sure. You can get a good size tractor for about half the money of a skid steer. Plus you have the option of multiple attachments in front as well as 3 point attachments. But you’re not going to do this type aggressive digging with anything less than a 55 horsepower utility tractor. Skid steers are nice and you may prefer one. But I’m just answering your question based on my experiences. I’ve also operated tractors for 28 years and only spent maybe 30 hours on a skid steer.

    Fantastic!
    I have a couple of questions if you have the time!
    1. How steep was the general mountain which you were working on? Our mountain that we are planning works on is about 30 to 35 degrees from horizontal, difficult to walk on. Yours seems to be about maybe 20 degrees?
    2. What is the road gradient of this section which you are building? We are trying to have a very steep 1:4 gradient for our 100m long road but are worried about constructability.
    All the best,
    Aleks

    • @khtractors
      @khtractors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The beginning of this road section which you see in the thumbnail is probably around 30. As you progress on around the hill it gets significantly steeper, not sure the angle without checking. I was able the keep the slope of the actually road at a mild grade until I got right to the end. Basically I went perfectly horizontal around a good part of it. Planning to do an update video on this road in the near future. Thanks

    Try renting a Bull Dozer for 2days , you’ll get it all done!

      I got it all done anyways. I worked on it for a couple hours each day for 3 days, wasn’t bad at all. Thanks

      Matt Gelsomino not on this section but hit a lot of shale on the later part of it. Most of what we have is rock, just got lucky here. Thanks
