I think it’s a lot simpler than it seems technically speaking there’s only four bolts that hold it up in there and a couple of wire connections then you pull the whole steering column out if you choose to it’s not a hard job just make sure you mark the shaft and do not spin the steering wheel all the way around once it is removed it will break the clock spring
Hi Clay and thanks for making this vid taking the time to share. I have a 2007 A6 C6 2.7 TDi which I've had for 12 years in the UK. 2 or 3 months ago the MMI went on a super go slow and can't complete any tasks at all, but it is clearly on. The radio comes on for 5 seconds then off for 2 seconds and so on. There is a quiet clicking in the speakers with the car off. Around the same time the ignition key occasionally stopped working first time but I didn't think too much of it; the problem is getting very slowly worse but still not failing completely. (your video suggests these faults are related). Meanwhile, in an effort to narrow things down, I have individually looped out the Sat Nav, CD auto changer, Radio and Amplifier using a fibre optic loop with no luck. I was next going inspect and then loop out the blue-tooth module under the drivers seat as I had heard stories of under floor flooding from blocked drain pipes at the bulkhead compartment. This idea was even more likely as yesterday I noticed this compartment was full of water. I easily cleared the blockage and the water ran out. I was going to check if there has been some water leakage into the footwell but haven't yet striped out the seat and carpet to tell. Could I ask, in your experience, you what you think? Many Thanks Adam
I don’t know if I got this backwards or not but it sounds like your 5F module or F5 module has a problem. Possibly your amplifier. Even though you bypass the fiber optic portion there could be another portion of the board that possibly has a problem. Sorry I’m not super knowledgeable on them but they’re the common problems that I run into I hope that’s helpful and at least gives you a direction to go.
Only just got this sorted but the amp was fine. It turned out to be the Bluetooth module that brought the whole show down. It’s under the left front seat and a bit tricky to get to. Looped it out and everything came back. It was totally dry but must have just reached end of life Thanks for your reply Adam
@@adamharland7716 hello I have the same car as you a6 c6 2007 2.7 tdi. I am having the same problem with the radio cutting out and the centre consol not working selecting air suspension settings etc. There has been water leaking into the footwell. What did you do to fix the module under the passenger seat? Thanks
@@bullseye7403 This drove me mad btw.....My problem was defo the bluetooth module in the passenger footwell. I looped it out and everything (except the phone of course) worked fine. I bought a second user module from an A6 C6 2008 3.0 tdi from ebay for about £100 (mine is A6 C6 2007 2.7 tdi) and got a car electronics workshop to fit it for me. Easy for them to change as they have lots of tricks to change a particular unit without ripping the car apart.....they also said they had to do something to the ID of the unit to make it work happily. I didn't have any evidence of a leak whatsoever in the footwell and guess the bluetooth unit was just end of life. I did have a lot of water collecting in the compartment under the bonnet where the wiper motor is. The drain got blocked with leaves and the whole thing filled up with water. I unblocked it easily enough by poking a finger around and no (thankfully) damage done. That's it....hope it helps.
Thank you for your video !!!!!!! I bought Audi A6 2007 nothing working 😞 ovner try alot mechanics no one can fix🤣 I bought second hand module take out relay and them 3 butons ,put in mine one and all good 💪😉
I guess I should’ve asked I’m kind of curious all that work if you take out the relay nothing else will get energized when you turn the key on I’m not quite certain how that’s possible but I don’t know everything
If I get a used steering collumn or start access module do I need to reprogram it? Or can I just get the key and module from the same car and use it on mine
Yes if you do either one of them you will have to have it towed to the Audi dealership and pay them a ton of money to reprogram it if you remove the one that you have and ship it to me it will not need reprogramming the only thing that could possibly need after you get it back is to be reset like I do inside the video but generally that’s not the case it is much cheaper to have it repaired if you need information on there it’s super simple just look me up on Clays Ac and auto repair on the Facebook messenger and send me a private message, It’s cheaper and easier
@@sharpcarco unfortunately I just found out that the previous owner installed a used one from the junk yard it has a different vin coming up, if you have any info on anywhere I can send it in for repair and reprogram It would be greatly helpful I can send some money for your time . Thanks
Thanks for this very detailed video, its great to see someone tackle problems most people would shy away from. I was considering doing it myself as well using your video but as you point out I found a service offering to do the removal and repair for a reasonable amount but atleast i know if they're doing right thanks to this video. Apart from this issue, the Audi A6 B6 is a fantastic car so eliminating this problem makes it all the better. Thanks again
Audi Electronics ... I am finished with Audi after 22 years driving them ... my next car will be manual gears with hand powered winding windows ... key turn ignition ... and hand signal turning indication .. looking for a low mileage car from 1979 ... I will be happy ! KEV
I don’t blame you dude one of my friends and I tried to help him as much as I could just spent $1100 to get his factory radio to work and that was with me helping Him they wanted over $3000
Hello, From Australia. I bought an 2006 Audi A8L 3.2. A non runner. had no battery so put in a 900cca battery, replaced key fob battery. shifter will not go out of park unless i push the release switch. when in netural a door buzzer goes off mmi and dash light up for 10 seconds. push start button and can not find the key fob. air suspension is at its lowest putting car on the ground. hazzards work one head light works remote boot unlock works, and that is all. I put mu autel on it using your method and fault 00183. 01320. 0223 mainly come up/ any ideas how to get power to it and start the damn paper weight please
Absolutely is steering column Hass to be programmed. No, no one except for the dealership can program to steering column that’s why I rebuild the boxes.
Quick question, I de-soldered and re-soldered the 3 switches and the little control box. I also checked to make sure the motor next to the board works. But the car still has no response, the dashboard doesn’t light up and the steering wheel is still unlocked. I also did this without a scanner. Was wondering if you have any idea of what else I could do? Could it be that I have to reset the car with a scanner? Thanks
Hey Nathan I’ve had quite a few people attempt this at home some of them are successful and some of them are not. And even with my own personal experience there’s been times where I’ve needed to do the reset procedure. So I would say it’s a good possibility that you just need to reset it maybe put a posting up on craigslist or Facebook that you need somebody to come over to your place with a high level scanner and try to reset that I did in the video cheap handheld scanners do not work. Hopefully you get it my friend and I wish you the best of luck brother
Sorry I misunderstood no you cannot read chip the Kessy, It’s cheaper to get another one from the junkyard and just have the dealership reflash it. Often times people send me there’s where they’ve already messed the circuit board up and it’s unrepairable and that’s what they have to end up doing
I watched this many times because I was thinking about doing it, but the codes I got were all 00456 and I have been seeing the 00288 code for the repair kit so i'm confused on what is wrong if it's what you are showing in the video or if it's something completely different. Anyways good video and thanks.
Hey clay I have a 2006 Audi A6 3.2l V6 I am having the same issues as your video is stating, but I have another issue alone with all of the other issues dealing with the module under the steering column, my parking brakes are stuck I’m not sure is this has anything to do with the module underneath the steering column but it’s definitely an issue.
@@sharpcarco No this is another option to fix this issue. The column will never lock again but that’s the only downside of this option. No faults of any kind are stored everything works as it should. No dead battery like you mentioned. I’ve had this done to my 08 for about 9 months with zero issues.
you think you can use a basic obd2 code reader to do this? like deleting the code part? have you heard of it happening to a 07 a4 b7? Mine did something similar wouldn't let me start it and the starter is new I had just started like 4 times before it did it to me so it was weird it was randomly wouldnt crank. maybe 5 min from the first try all of a sudden it started.
I am absolutely for certain that a standard OBD2 scanner cannot read these codes the way that I read them I’ve tried with multiple different types of cheap scanners and none of them have ever worked to be able to do what I’ve done in this video. And if it was the Start control module it will certainly happen again but next time it happens at least you will know what to look for and if you have the same symptoms as me then more than likely your Start control module needs to be rebuilt you’re more than welcome to ship it to me if you need to I hope the information was helpful for you have a great evening
Thank you for doing this video!! I'm going through this now its been about 4 months and I have been going back and forth with Audi. I will be ordering said parts that you showed. Once the new parts have been soldered in does it need any type of programming?
It will not need to be reprogrammed. But the stored codes may have to be a raced like I do in the beginning without the key inserted in the ignition nine out of 10 times you just plug it in and it works you can also send the unit to me and I could rebuild it for you I do about five of them a month and people send them from everywhere but it is much cheaper doing it yourself. When you’re looking for the parts you may find that they have a new circuit board that you can buy off of eBay I do not recommend this because then it will definitely have to be programmed to the vehicle and it will cost you more money and time then it’s worth
I have a Q7 that needs the steering column lock module rebuilt. I intend to do this myself, and I have the lower plastic dash panels off. The module is right on the lower side of the column. Is it necessary to remove the entire column to remove the module?
Hi David I have seen people do it without removing it but I don’t know if it’s possible to do without breaking it the last guy that removed it and sent me the control board and I repaired it for him I’m pretty certain he broke it. But without the whole control unit I couldn’t tell him for sure. So be very careful I highly recommend you remove the whole control unit and I highly highly recommend it it’s not that hard to get off
I wanted to update that I tried what you did here with a Autel ms309 scanner and it failed to read the faults. It said he could not get a response from the car because there was no ignition. Although I pressed the brakes and the lights and distress lights :(
Battery fully charged, Key off and out of ignition, hold brake , turn on hazard lights , hold high beam switch, start auto reading , once auto read is done while holding everything quick clear codes. Insert key and start Most be done exactly how I describe ! Or it will not work . If it still dose not work you have a different problem.....
@@sharpcarco Hi nice man. I found that we can give power to a fuse called "Switch module steering column" which is in the fuse housing on the driver's side. And that's how it allows the scanner to connect easily without all the process you mentioned in the video. you can see it here: www.audihowto.com/audi-a6-c6-2004-2011-fuse-box-location-and-fuses-list/ what are you saying?
do you have to do that when using SVCD diagnostics software/hardware? My friends car just can't start after replacement of injectors, glowplugs, it cranks but no start
hello group i want to ask a question i have a 2013 audi A6 premium plus supercharger 3.0 i was driving and suddenly all the lights on the dash came on and all of a sudden everything went out i was still driving but i stopped giving power, as soon as i did i got to home I tried to start again and did not want to start, sometimes the dashboard lights up and marks almost all the lights that could be thanks
Great video! I have a unique situation and need a little insight. I have a 2004 A8L with the same symptoms, no dah lights, no start no crank, good battery. My problem is I couldn't get to the screw in the middle of the module because the steering wheel was locked. Even after resetting it with Ross Tech it wouldn't unlock...sooo I ended up drilling through the locking mechanism to get the screw out and ultimately destroyed the metal case for the module. The steering wheel is now unlocked and I still have the circuit board but the casing is history. So my question: Do you think I can still replace the relays in the circuit board and get it to work without attaching it to the steering column? Just plug it back in and secure the module without the case? I know the steering wheel won't lock and unlock but at this point I could care less. I wonder if the circuit board has to be grounded?😫😩 I NEED HELP!!
Well I just happen to be on my phone and see this message. I have another case so that’s not a problem I just have to find it. You have to have the module in place so it can unlock the steering wheel correctly. I believe there’s a sensor on the other end that is necessary so the Ecm recognizes the switch moving. If you were interested just hit me up on clays AC and auto repair on Facebook and I will give you the directions price etc. etc.
@@sharpcarco Thanks for the quick response. 👍. I think I'm in over my head. It's late here in GA but I'll have a look at that FB page early in the morning...Thanks again, I really appreciate it 👊👊
I don't have a suitable scanner to do the code reset myself (and having had this done before more than once, I don't think it will work again as we tried but without success) so for now I would like to do the repair and get the fault codes cleared once repaired. As far as I can tell, I only need the scanner to get the motor to cycle to such a position to remove the mounting bolt. My question is would I either be able to apply a voltage directly to the motor to get it to cycle to the bolt in the correct position for removal or could I drill a hole in the casing so that I can remove the bolt without cycling the motor?
The reason your question didn’t get answered is because I never received it because like I said in the beginning of the video it is best to reach out to me on clays ac and Auto Repair on Facebook so if you have any further questions I recommend you ask them there You can get the screw out without moving the motor I don’t know where you read that you cannot but I do it quite often you just take all of the bolts out so you can move the Start control module back Enough to tilt it to be able to get to the screw
@@sharpcarco The part of the video I was referring to comes at 11m 35secs - where you return the steering column to the car to get an inaccessible bolt into a small window. I will contact you via Facebook and link to this post - thanks again.
but after you change these parts you just have to assemble it and that's it? I bought a used box…can I take off the switches and relays and put them in my box?
First off you don’t want to use used ones. And the reason you can’t get them off because it’s very difficult I know it seems relatively simple but there’s a reason that I charge $350 for it.
I bought a 2015 Audi Q7 that's been sitting for a year. I have a crank/no start after a new battery, oil change and spark plugs no progress. Anything I missed or need to further diagnose?
i have a question my husband did the repair and put it back it started and turned it off the car would not start and would not clear any code, then he put the new motor in at we got the codes to clear and it started and we turned it off and now it wont start again or clear any code i think the motor is blowing but why. I'm so lost.
hey i have a 2000 volkswagen passat and it runs now and then when it run for a minute you shut it off and go to start again it cranks but want run. And when i checked the power on the coils there where no power so i jumped a power wire to it and it runs and i don't have and ideal what is wrong with it but i found a red wire with a green traser that gose back into the car that seems to go to the relay box
Well John since it’s running it’s obviously a 12 V signal wire going to it but honestly I’m not familiar enough with their wiring system to give you any good advice good job though at least you got it to run
HELLO I GOT THE SAME PROBLEM ONLY I CANT READ THE KESSY SO I CANT CLEAR IT.MY SCANER IS NEW AND UPDATED COULD YOU GIVE ME A HINT WHAT SHOULD I DO? THANKS ZOLTAN
Well I probably won’t be able to be of much help I would have to assume that you do not have a upper level scanner like mine. Unfortunately you cannot do this procedure without the proper scan equipment cheap ones will not do it I’m just guessing of course I’m not calling you cheap Btw Zoltan, I hope (gobulis doesn’t run you out of town) ....... or the cobra Commander.
Thank you Clay but the funny thing is that my scanner is not a cheep one and is new before i updated it it wouldn't show kessy but now is updated and it shows it but wont connect to it
Hi My q7 starts no problem but when Im using vcds and trying to log into 05 module do not shows me info about module itself. I can see fault codes, do some things but my kessy dont work and cant proper log into that module. Relay is faulty ? 🤔
Well I’m very sorry I did not check to see if the remote lock would open the door or not but if you have the same symptoms that I’m describing in the video then more than likely you need a new Start control module. If that something that you’re interested in you’re more than welcome ship yours to me and I’ll be happy to take care of it for you are usually do about one every week or so for people all over the country. Hello, I'm a first time viewer, definitely won't be the last! Anyway, I have an 2008 Audi A6 3.2l and it cranks but won't start. I've replaced the crankshaft sensor with an OEM from Audi. Still same problem. Please help!!
Well welcome. Very happy to have you on James. Regretfully over text message and without a lot of different information points.that would be extremely difficult figure that out. And since you’ve already installed A crank sensor which is generally the first thing that you look for when you’re missing spark. We need a lot more information like which codes do you have? Is the engine turning over very fast? It’s very difficult for me to answer and have a conversation over TH-cam message system. And I get several of them a day so they get lost. But we can try.
@@sharpcarco , Thank you! Glad to be on board. When I first heard about the problem I thought it was the crankshaft sensor. I put my ODB2 reader on it, ( not as nice as yours), and I got the code for the crankshaft sensor. So I got one from a dealership and it ran briefly. My friend behind the wheel got startled when he started the car and immediately turned it off. That was 18 months ago. I've taken it to a dealership and they couldn't find out what was wrong. It turns over fast, no issues there. Replaced plugs, plug wires, battery, and fuel pump. Still nothing.
Not sure if it's anti-theft related or not. I figured if it was the dealership would've tested and let me know. I also got the service history on the car and it had the timing chain/belt (can't remember which one it has) replaced with approximately 60k miles on it. Currently it only has 80400 miles on her.. I just don't know enough about audis to go any further.
Well if it’s turning over fast . Do you have spark? Also it’s a good possibility that the timing belt is broken you should be able to remove one of the plastic covers. From the top of the engine rather easily. Then have somebody cranky engine and if the cams move the belt is not broken which is a good thing. But you would need to inspect the belt further.
I’m assuming by your name you may be correct but I personally could not get it to work with any scanner the times I tried but you may be more knowledgeable about it than I am.
I’m about to go test drive a 2008 a6 with 126k miles, 3 owners. It’s super clean but I’m worried even if I do fall in love with it, this is going to be an issue. Any suggestions?
Thank you for the video! I have a? 2004 A6 2.7 TT Quattro automatic 137k a light was left on inside the car. I recharge the battery installed it, use a scanner to clear a check engine light. I started the car, move that into a different spot and driveway. Now I turn car on it tries to Fire and it says depress clutch pedal to start car? But like I stated it's an automatic. Please if you could give me idea, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm a disabled veteran, on a fixed income cannot afford to take the dealer.🙏
Hey My car has this exact problem (audi a6 2007). Only after a few attempts does it work out. Sometimes it takes half an hour for it to work out. My question is could it be something else like switch? Or is it certainly steering column ?
Well of course they could be something else I’m not there...... But I’ve never seen it be anything else than that and all the people that send me their‘s. Seem to be satisfied
@@sharpcarco Hey Clay great Videos , cheers :) , I have the same problem here , and as some one else has said my Vagcom VCDS cannot communicate with the Address 05: Acc/Start Auth , so i cannot see any error codes . but as the guy above if I keep trying the key and taking it in and out after a while it will spring into life . I have also noticed the steering lock doesn't actually seem to work and there is no 'clunk ' when it take the key out and no noises when I put the key in ( when it works first time ) , and I can turn the wheel with the key out of the system ?? would this indicate the steering lock motor has gone or maybe just the relay on the PCB has actually fried ?
Well it most certainly sounds like the Start control module to me of course I can’t be certain. And it is certainly a possibility that the electric motor has went bad on the module but out of the over 100 I’ve ever done I’ve never tested a motor that has been bad. It could just be that the Switches are defective and not telling the motor to move sorry wish I could be of more help have a great day

@@sharpcarco Hey Clay , just thought I would let you all know how it went . as may help others . My problem was slightly different to what seems to be the norm. My steering lock seemed to have failed open , no idea how long this had gone on for so wasn't showing as an issue when i turned on the ignition, then i got the dreaded no crank or ignition lights when you turn the key , but would eventual spring into life . this all turned out to be a faulty micro switch under the the rotating plate that pulls the lock open or close( the one without the metal lever on it .... , so change the relay and 3 micro switches and all seems to function correctly

I have a 2009 with no power, the key fob isn’t recognized and the hazards switch doesn’t work either. Also the high beams switch has no power any ideas would be helpful
Possibly your battery may be bad or drained, try to put it on a charger or get it bench tested to see if your battery is no good then go from there. If you do get a new battery, make sure to get it coded to your vehicle if possible.
Hey. In my case when the battery runs out the vehicle starts to turn off components like radio and switch there is no opening of the steering column. only the interior lighting and power chairs are working. The vehicle's remote responds to locking and unlocking. I can not power the vehicle even after replacing a new battery. I always hire an electrician and pay him to connect a computer and update the software / system again. Then the vehicle returns as it was. This problem happened to me half a year ago that the battery was weak and the switch and radio did not work even if we connected cables from another vehicle!. Only when we connected a computer and an update or installation of the software, the vehicle come back to life. Now again, the battery crashed and the vehicle without electricity in the switch and radio and tje MMI says "an installed component is not valid. please contact audi workshop". ..again need to connect a computer. I do not think it should be like that and the people in my country do not understand this car. It is important for me to note that the computer does not show a problem with the with the steering column!! The radio turns off gradually. First the right speaker turns off and after a few days the left speaker also turns off and you do not hear at all. Can you please give me direction? my car audi a6 c6 2007 2.4. ty
Well unfortunately I’m no different than the people in the country that you’re from I have no idea what is going on with that car there’s probably multiple issues sorry wish I could be of some help
Replacing a battery to these cars can not be possible (properly) unless you are REGISTERING the new battery with the ECU, you need to purchase AGM battery, and make sure there is a BEM stiker in the battery before you purchase! You also need VAG COM or OBDeleven to register it!
The battery is AGM. The car has what’s called a BEM memory control unit it regulates the amount of voltage going to the car. When the battery is replaced it must be re-registered with the automobile or it will continuously lose voltage and power overnight.

Basically cause if the delay and I asked them if a used one was possible but they said no cause it won't match the VIN. I don't believe the new matches the VIN either 🤣. Have you heard this part ever solving the no start no power on the dash issue?
Hi, man I've watched your videos about fixing the steering column actuator on a Audi a6. I recently bought a 2010 A6 from an auction and it looks like it has the same issue. Hey man great video. I'm going to start doing this job on 2015 A4. Where can i get a set of the XZN Star bits from. I can't find them online. Thanks in advance for the help!
@@sharpcarco thank you very much. I saw those online, but wasn't sure. I haven't taken anything apart yet. My OBDeleven will be in this Friday and I'm collecting the rest of the things I need before I do anything else. Your video and info has been very helpful. I have a 2015 A4, same symptoms and a dynamic stearing fault that locks the car from starting. I found an Audi blog that says that fault is the same thing as what happened with your vehicle. So I'll be doing mine soon. Wish me luck. Lol
Be very careful the reason that I do not show the repair of the Start control module is because it is extremely delicate I’ve had quite a few over the past two years that people have sent me because they messed up the soldering portion and destroyed the circuit board so if you’re not extremely confident about your ability to remove the components without destroying the circuitboard I highly recommend you send it to someone and you’re more than welcome to send it to me if you like have a great day I wish you the best of luck. let us know if that is actually the problem
@@sharpcarco I have an update. I finally ordered and received my OBDeleven today. I reset the faults and the car has started and restarted about a dozen times with only getting the dynamic stearing fault once. It was what i guess you would call a stage one fault. The little stearing wheel indicator on the display was yellow not red. So it is working for the time being. At least until I finish getting in a couple of tools i need. As far as my soldering/desoldering abilities, I've been an industrial electrician all of my adult life and have done that type of work many times. I'm very confident in being able to do that, but thank you for the concern. Your video and responding to my questions is very much appreciated! I'll keep you posted.
Thanks for posting all your helpful videos. I'm considering buying a 2010 A6 3.2l with this issue, but it has no keyhole on the trunk. How do I get the trunk open to charge the battery if the battery is dead? Also, on your other video you said the bolts are XZN6, on this one you said XZN9. Do the bolts vary depending on year/model/engine? Last question; what is your source for the relay and switches?
Well thank you very much for the kind words Brandon unfortunately more than likely I miss spoke or I was looking at the socket upside down, if I was the guess it’s a ZXN9 that is just a guess I’m really sorry By the way if you look up underneath the deck lid where the handle is on a bunch of different models there is a keyhole sometimes you have to remove a plastic cover. I can’t say it’s on every single one of them but if I remember correctly there is

i did all that scan with VCDS take the stupid steering column Module off replace new relay, but i kept switchers i test them with multi miter n works and finally all that does not help so far, audi a6 3.2 wont start 3 months ago AuDi asked 2500 to 3000 to fix it
My A6 C6 2011 has a dead battery everything is electric and i cant open to trunk to get to the battery even if i climb in the boot by pulling down rear seats, the flap to get to spear wheel opens upwards so there is not enough room to open it so im doomed what do i do i cant see any form of emergency boot release and the outside has no key hole.
@@sharpcarco Yes its my only option but the car has been sitting 13 months im scared its seized the engine or battery juice completley finish where it wont even jump start, i dont know. 🙏
Well even then you still need to be Under the engine compartment so do you wanna take a breaker bar and a socket and free that motor up remove the spark plugs put Marvel mystery oil down inside the cylinders then Let it sit for a day or so and then try to turn it over if it’s locked up because of sitting it will start to turn over I’m sure
@@sharpcarco Ok thanks for replying, ill try to turn it over by jump start first, hopefully that is successful where i dont have to look for other options. 👍
Well you should see something covered by a Red plastic cover where you stick the positive and the negative can go just about anywhere that it’s going to ground out usually in your owners manual it will tell you the jumping points underneath the hood
Yeah good morning Brett people send them to me from all over the country and I do quite a few every week. I try not to put my personal information out over TH-cam You can reach out to me on Clays AC and auto repair on the Facebook /messenger and I will give you my contact information and get some information from you so we make sure we try not to repair something that does not need to be repaired yet. Even though they always go bad. Have a good day
Ok …. You didn’t send me your Start control module so I have nothing to do with it….. and I’m fairly certain that you’re the one that insulted me earlier today when you sent me a message on Facebook because you don’t understand the video or the process. It’s not automatically gonna fix itself
I guess you’ve never bought one by time you buy the lab school so the updates and pay for everything I’m probably a little bit on the low side glad I could help you
What about if send the module itself and you install the new parts only how much will cost?
I don’t talk about pricing over my TH-cam channel.
You can look me up on clays ac and Auto Repair on Facebook and send me a message
Or the slower way is thenewclayway@gmail.com . For some reason I get thousands of emails and it’s harder for me to go through all of them so I’m not as quick to answer at times
Thank you. Good clear voice. Not an easy job but doable. Greetings from a Q7 owner.
It was totally dry but must have just reached end of life
Thanks for your reply
Adam
@Adam Hartland . Thanks for the heads up I will keep that in the memory banks.
Quick question though, was your mmi screen off?
Thank you for your video !!!!!!! I bought Audi A6 2007 nothing working 😞 ovner try alot mechanics no one can fix🤣 I bought second hand module take out relay and them 3 butons ,put in mine one and all good 💪😉

I guess I should’ve asked I’m kind of curious all that work if you take out the relay nothing else will get energized when you turn the key on I’m not quite certain how that’s possible but I don’t know everything
how about when you put the key in and theres power but it would just click as you try to turn it on?

Thank you so much you safe my life
If I get a used steering collumn or start access module do I need to reprogram it?

I put mu autel on it using your method and fault 00183. 01320. 0223 mainly come up/ any ideas how to get power to it and start the damn paper weight please
Does a new steering column need to be programed? Can you program a new steering column?
So I would say it’s a good possibility that you just need to reset it maybe put a posting up on craigslist or Facebook that you need somebody to come over to your place with a high level scanner and try to reset that I did in the video
cheap handheld scanners do not work.
Hopefully you get it my friend and I wish you the best of luck brother
Meni otključava volan ali nemam i dalje nista kad dam kontakt ne svetli tabla, mmi radio radi, molim vas pomoc!!
Great video, are you able to re-chip a Audi A8 D3 kessy?
Yes I was I actually made a follow up to this video I believe it’s down in the description and I rebuild them very frequently
Cut the red/black wire on the thing while your key is in the igniton..... and it will never jam. Yay!
Yes then your battery can die all the time that makes a lot of sense…
@@sharpcarco No this is another option to fix this issue. The column will never lock again but that’s the only downside of this option. No faults of any kind are stored everything works as it should. No dead battery like you mentioned. I’ve had this done to my 08 for about 9 months with zero issues.
If you’re still giving advice I also have a 2007 Q7 Audi needs ignition lock, with key put in. The whole thing.
Can you try to fix my car the exact car with the same problem.
Please
you think you can use a basic obd2 code reader to do this? like deleting the code part? have you heard of it happening to a 07 a4 b7?
Will it work if I just change the ignition switch and get a different key for starting the car. (i have an Audi Q7 2006)
No
Thank you for doing this video!!
Subed just by seeing this valuable video, Thank u very much for sharing.
No problem very very very happy to have you thank you very much for the kind words!!! Welcome to the Channell have a great day
I have a Q7 that needs the steering column lock module rebuilt.
So be very careful I highly recommend you remove the whole control unit and I highly highly recommend it it’s not that hard to get off
So can u not just disable the steering wheel lock with the Vcad scanner?
I wanted to update that I tried what you did here with a Autel ms309 scanner and it failed to read the faults. It said he could not get a response from the car because there was no ignition. Although I pressed the brakes and the lights and distress lights :(
Battery fully charged, Key off and out of ignition, hold brake , turn on hazard lights , hold high beam switch, start auto reading , once auto read is done while holding everything quick clear codes. Insert key and start
Most be done exactly how I describe ! Or it will not work . If it still dose not work you have a different problem.....
@@sharpcarco Hi nice man.
I found that we can give power to a fuse called "Switch module steering column" which is in the fuse housing on the driver's side. And that's how it allows the scanner to connect easily without all the process you mentioned in the video.
you can see it here:
www.audihowto.com/audi-a6-c6-2004-2011-fuse-box-location-and-fuses-list/
what are you saying?
do you have to do that when using SVCD diagnostics software/hardware?

hello group i want to ask a question i have a 2013 audi A6 premium plus supercharger 3.0 i was driving and suddenly all the lights on the dash came on and all of a sudden everything went out i was still driving but i stopped giving power, as soon as i did i got to home I tried to start again and did not want to start, sometimes the dashboard lights up and marks almost all the lights that could be thanks
It's late here in GA but I'll have a look at that FB page early in the morning...Thanks again, I really appreciate it 👊👊
Nice boss good job
I don't have a suitable scanner to do the code reset myself (and having had this done before more than once, I don't think it will work again as we tried but without success) so for now I would like to do the repair and get the fault codes cleared once repaired. As far as I can tell, I only need the scanner to get the motor to cycle to such a position to remove the mounting bolt. My question is would I either be able to apply a voltage directly to the motor to get it to cycle to the bolt in the correct position for removal or could I drill a hole in the casing so that I can remove the bolt without cycling the motor?
Bump?
The reason your question didn’t get answered is because I never received it because like I said in the beginning of the video it is best to reach out to me on clays ac and Auto Repair on Facebook so if you have any further questions I recommend you ask them there
You can get the screw out without moving the motor I don’t know where you read that you cannot but I do it quite often you just take all of the bolts out so you can move the Start control module back Enough to tilt it to be able to get to the screw
@@sharpcarco Thanks for the info - now found and following you on Facebook - I'll post any further questions there when I do the job
@@sharpcarco The part of the video I was referring to comes at 11m 35secs - where you return the steering column to the car to get an inaccessible bolt into a small window. I will contact you via Facebook and link to this post - thanks again.
Does the new piece have to be programmed
No it will Not have to be if I fix it but if you get a different, one from a different car , YES and can ONLY be done at the dealership.
but after you change these parts you just have to assemble it and that's it? I bought a used box…can I take off the switches and relays and put them in my box?
First off you don’t want to use used ones. And the reason you can’t get them off because it’s very difficult I know it seems relatively simple but there’s a reason that I charge $350 for it.
I bought a 2015 Audi Q7 that's been sitting for a year. I have a crank/no start after a new battery, oil change and spark plugs no progress. Anything I missed or need to further diagnose?
Do you RPMs move up on your instrument cluster as you’re cranking it over? If they’re not this is a possibility that your crank sensor is bad,
@@sharpcarco hadn't paid attention to that. I'll crank it again and get back to you. Thank you

@@sharpcarco I want to say yes but I don't remember. I'll check the timing belt. I'll let you know either way. Thanks!

My car has this exact problem (audi a6 2007). Only after a few attempts does it work out. Sometimes it takes half an hour for it to work out.

Hi i have a same car and mine break light and tursignal (LED) its not working do u know wahts the issue?
Did u fix it?
@@kristianjovanov2666 no i still dont know whats the problem
Hi clay i have a 2006 audi a6 with the same exact problem. Can i send my column for a fix? Thanks!

@@RomanTrollanski Hi. I want to understand.
Why is it important to buy an AGM battery? What is a battery with ECU and BEM?
The battery is AGM.
The car has what’s called a BEM memory control unit it regulates the amount of voltage going to the car. When the battery is replaced it must be re-registered with the automobile or it will continuously lose voltage and power overnight.
@@sharpcarco In addition to what you said would this also send a fault that appears in the scanner?
How much do you charge to repair?
I don’t talk about pricing over my TH-cam channel.
You can look me up on clays ac and Auto Repair on Facebook and send me a message
Or the slower way is thenewclayway@gmail.com . For some reason I get thousands of emails and it’s harder for me to go through all of them so I’m not as quick to answer at times
2010 No Start, No Nothing. Vehicles been at the Audi dealer for over a month. They just came back to me and said it would be $1700+ to replace the Gateway / Bus Control Module part number 8T0-907-468-T. I have a feeling they're wrong. Basically cause if the delay and I asked them if a used one was possible but they said no cause it won't match the VIN. I don't believe the new matches the VIN either 🤣. Have you heard this part ever solving the no start no power on the dash issue?
Hi, man
I've watched your videos about fixing the steering column actuator on a Audi a6.
I recently bought a 2010 A6 from an auction and it looks like it has the same issue.
I was wondering how much would you charge for parts and labor, if I send you my little metal box with the circuit board inside?
Thank you
Good morning Nicolae i’d be more than happy to do that for you.
You can email me at

Or look me up under Facebook messenger under clays Ac and Auto Repair. And I will give you the information you need to Send it over and get it returned to you quickly
I installed repair kit and problem is still persists. Steering lock sometimes is working, sometimes not... Any ideas?

Hey man great video. I'm going to start doing this job on 2015 A4. Where can i get a set of the XZN Star bits from. I can't find them online. Thanks in advance for the help!
Well I should’ve made it a little bit clearer they are also called triple square. And they are available at just about any parts store.

Have the same problem audi a8 d3 2006
you forgot to mention that the actual motor can go bad as well
I’ve personally never seen one go bad but I suppose it’s possible anything is possible
Well thank you very much for the kind words Brandon unfortunately more than likely I miss spoke or I was looking at the socket upside down, if I was the guess it’s a ZXN9 that is just a guess I’m really sorry
By the way if you look up underneath the deck lid where the handle is on a bunch of different models there is a keyhole sometimes you have to remove a plastic cover. I can’t say it’s on every single one of them but if I remember correctly there is
Also you can jump the battery from underneath the hood
Great, thanks again!
yup i had tht issue got rid of the car cause of it
Dang I was betting a plasma cutter would fix this like any problem you could h!ve.

Audi workshop . And no sound? And in my Scan computers ( VGSC ) i not find anything i delete DDC still same??? Did this mean no way I just back to Audi owner for fix that issue ,, thanks for all ❤️
i did all that
scan with VCDS
take the stupid steering column Module off
replace new relay, but i kept switchers i test them with multi miter n works
and finally all that does not help so far,
audi a6 3.2 wont start 3 months ago
AuDi asked 2500 to 3000 to fix it
When you scanned it with the VCDS, And reset the codes did it start?
Happened to me, just clear code w vag scanner!
Makes me feel like it’s time for the graveyard
My A6 C6 2011 has a dead battery everything is electric and i cant open to trunk to get to the battery even if i climb in the boot by pulling down rear seats, the flap to get to spear wheel opens upwards so there is not enough room to open it so im doomed what do i do i cant see any form of emergency boot release and the outside has no key hole.
You pop the hood and there’s power ports underneath there so it will energize the system you’re able to jump it from under the hood
How would I go about sending you mine I’ll pull it out and mail it to ya you got a phone number?
Yeah good morning Brett people send them to me from all over the country and I do quite a few every week.
