Please do further electrical failure insights with the 650sx. Top reasons owners let them sit and have to sell as not running. I appreciate your time and kindness to others 🇺🇸
Jimmy gave me a small laugh when he threw all the screws n bolts out the cover...... I laughed n said every great mechanic deletes extra parts ......i know those are extras but its just fun to say 😂🤣😂🤣
Thanks Jimmy was a pleasure watching you work on that engine and explaining everything as you went along. And a great big thanks to your wife for filming.
It's still weird seeing LHC on a TH-cam video. I am excited for the lake weather and trips to Body Beach this season and I hope to see if my old 440 is too small for me and I need to upgrade to a 650 or bigger or if a 440 is a perfect fit I don't need speed I just need to know if it'll move my heavy butt.
30 years playing with two stokes !! Excellent video my friend !! I just always went with my gut and won never looked at specs or measured anything. Details DO matter
Love the content. Questions using a TS cdi coil in a 89sx, is the stator and cdi coil different? Compatible? Can they mix and match ? If so ,how to modify the ts cdi? I had to pause the video so the answers might be ahead.
Jim, I noticed on the breather of the oil tank which you converted to be a reserve fuel tank you have one of those aftermarket machined aluminium one way air breather valves that come from China. I have found that these things require too much pressure in order to breath properly so that a vacuum is not created and starving the engine for fuel (ESPECIALLY under load at WOT!). This may be part of your problem, but at the very least, it is a variable you should get rid of. I have tried using several different ones of these one way breather valves and every time I've ALWAYS ran into this being an issue! I would seriously ditch that valve as you will go down a rabbit hole trying to figure out why it's not running right when the whole time it may have been this cheep Chinese aftermarket valve that looks pretty but absolutely is garbage!! Hope you see this and that this is helpful.
@@magee887 The OEM one is best. You honestly don't even really need one at all but some gas will leak into your hull if you crash and the ski rolls. My opinion of course!
Wow! Thank you! You know, honestly i have been using these for a while now, and i have often wondered how good they were. I did notice the restriction, but never followed through any further. Totally Makes sense though. Oem is almost always better. :-)
@@jetskijim007 Yep, believe me, I wanted to like them too as they look nice and are cheap but every time I try to use one it ends up being a problem (on about the 3 or so different attempts to use them).
Ever messed with a 750SX West Coast head? I bought an engine for my '95 750SXi that has one of those heads on it. Swapped it in and it runs fine. I want to take the head off to inspect inside, but not certain if I need to get a West Coast specific head gasket for it, which they made but are discontinued.
@@jetskijim007 Awesome, I really appreciate the info! Perhaps I should source a stock 750sx head since finding those West Coast o rings might be tricky, and sourcing same-size generic replacements might be difficult to match exact dimensions and material properties.
Yezoauto. It looks like they have since sold out. The key is that it is the same fuel pump from a kawasaki mule 4000. There are other companies selling them for around $40 with over 99% positive feedback. :-)
My 650 was at .005" piston to wall which was at the limit but straight, honed it, new rings, stock milled head was only pulling 125 psi, swapped a mariner head, bumper to 155 psi. Guessing something is really wrong or the gauge reads low.
Cheap gauges, especially Harbor Freight ones are notorious for reading low. In an earlier episode Jim mentioned swapping out the shrader valve core with one off a tool truck like Snap-On for better accuracy.
Seeing a few on market place 4 sale that dont run or pretty rough shape wondering if you can still get parts or if they are worth fixing and re sale them
Love your channel! Keep it coming I'm learning a ton from you! Looking into an aftermarket prop, intake grate, and ride plate for my X2. SBN 44 sitting on a bored out stock intake, stock exhaust for now but plan on drying it out in the future. Ride on mostly all calm river water, would love your recommendation on pump setup!
Compression testers having valves that aren't the same as the ones in your tires valve stems if you don't get any bleeding off the of pressure that valve should be good as any
The oils we use today are 10 times better than the oil of 30 years ago. Ring wear is different than piston wear. I know it is strange, but aluminum is softer, and wears out quicker than the rings do. Years ago the rings would wear at the same rate as pistons. Todays oils slow down the ring wear enough that the pistons wear out long before ring seal is compromised..
Remove the air check valve from the fuel pickup. Run a hose from the fuel pickup where the check valve used to be to the bottom of the oil tank. Now while riding, as u use the fuel out of the fuel tank, it draws fuel from the oil tank. Make sure the air check valve on the oil tank is working properly though.
Is the TS CDI and stator the same as the Jet Mate or the SX? I was chasing my tail when I was using a Jet Mate stator and flywheel doing an engine swap. Didnt know they wouldn't interchange....I put in an SX stator and flywheel and she ripped!
Hi Jim, These videos are great, thank you. Could you point me to the part where you describe how to convert the oil tank to a fuel reserve tank? I’ve watched it before but can’t remember which video it was! Thanks for your time.
Rofl. Well actually, yeah, the more time you spend on the ski, you will notice. I have ridden so many peoples 650's and more often than not they are only about 35mph. The ski is so much more fun once u get over 40mph, and they are crazy fun once you get them over 50mph. :-)
Yes, i am confortable reusing gaskets, as these are torn down often. On my ski's i ride all the time, i don't reuse gaskets, as i may go years without tearing them down. This 650 in paticular though, will be apart 3 or 4 more times this season. :-)
Can a person remove the starter on a 1993 650SX without removing the muffler system to get to the bolts and have a passage way to get the starter out of the engine compartment? Is there a trick to do this?
It can be done, but it is way more difficult than just taking the top 3 bolts out of the exhaust pipe, the one bolt on the side, loosen up one of the large hose clamps on the large coupler, and the back half of the exhaust assembly rotates up and right out or the ski, exposing the starter.
In one of your videos, you say the threads in the exhaust manifolds strip out, that's why I did not want to take the riser off the exhaust manifold. If I do remove the three bolts and remove the riser, is the gasket (11009-3752) re-usable or do I need a new gasket? I thought in your video you removed a "metal" gasket and said you would be re-using it. Thanks for the assistance!! @@jetskijim007

Hey Jimmy,I know it’s just a couple of three weeks ago. You did a segment on fuel pumps. What was the name of that company?

wouldn’t you want to go leaner for more rpm or would that just kill the engine
That is going to be the next video. I think we are richer than we need to be. This fresher top end is pulling harder on the carb, making it richer.
Hey Jim, how did you run fuel lines to the oil tank

Would it help to install the pistons in the cylinders first then connect them to the rods?
Honestly, don't know. Never tried. I will have to do some experimenting. :-)

Wouldn't you prefer a nice game of Chess?
I have a js 440, it won’t rev into the high rpms in the water, but runs great out of water, do you think my top end is worn?
Could be. Or it could be carburetion, or too tall of an impeller....
Why do you reuse the gaskets and tell us not to? Did you say you are taking it apart again?
Yes, i am confortable reusing gaskets, as these are torn down often. On my ski's i ride all the time, i don't reuse gaskets, as i may go years without tearing them down. This 650 in paticular though, will be apart 3 or 4 more times this season. :-)
