Did you ever find out the name ( species ) of that thorn bush ? I am really curious ….. WHAT IS IT ? Even more important, I hope it does not grow in this area. Congratulations on your success at removing it.

Depending on the root system, root can still grow underneath if it is the right plant even if you the top off.
