The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is still getting updates with new Creations DLC, these are paid mods that add new content into the game. Today we are reviewing the new Skyrim creation: Echoes of the Vail for Xbox Series X/S, PC and Play Station (PS4/PS5) by EasierRider, which adds 23 new lands to explore in the Forgotten Vail region of Skyrim. The mod also adds a new armor set to find, new unique weapon locations and a new player home location. Orignally you could only access the forgotten vail during the Dawnguard Questline but now you can access it early.

The success of paid mods are gonna mark Elder Scrolls 6 for microtransaction death.
I refuse to play any rpg with a microtransaction store built into it. Bethesda showed us with their recent catalogue that the game is gonna be mid af anyway.
Ya I didn't even think of that the paid dlc for Skyrim was a test run for elder scrolls 6. Theres definitely going to be micro transactions
Agreed honestly, I don’t have high hopes for elder scrolls 6 it’s either that that kills it, or another star field. I’ve never played star field but I’ve done research watch reviews and it seems like they only focus on graphics and the impress factor not the true quest or story of it all.
And to add I won’t pay $70 for a game, not one which can’t even run on my decent mid range device.
@@lynnrotter8642 I figured how they will "justify" paid mods in ES6 is by making some bs excuse that they have to charge for the mod tools.
I asked Bethesda support to define what they mean by the term "Plays." They have now responded to say the following: "Plays reflects the times players have started Skyrim with the creation installed." This means that if I start Skyrim 10 times it would add another 10 plays onto the total. It seems like quite a meaningless stat to track to me. It would be like Steam only telling us how many times somebody had launched Skyrim instead of the concurrent players or how many sales a game had, If the average person launches Skyrim twice a day it would lead to massively inflated stats. Unfortunately this means that theirs no possible way of publicly tracking how many people have brought/downloaded a Creation.
For those of you who are in doubt, I think we can be certain we will see a similar system brought to Fallout 4, Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 in the future. Weather you like it or not micro transactions make allot of income in games like GTA5, Diablo or FIFA do make allot of money. Bethesda being able to get their community to generate content for them to sell (with a small kickback to the mod creator) is a incredible business decision. For us as consumers it means we may get more quality content, but its going to cost you much more money to access it. I personally will continue to use my own money to review this content so you can make up your mind on skipping it or not.
I would definitely pin this comment. 👍
Its not meaningless, the idea IMO is so folk infer that it is buys which makes the mod appear more popular than it really is. Pretty sneaky behaviour TBH. If you're swithering on whether or not to buy something, and you see 110k players next to the description, you're led to assume that it individuals. The stat has zero value outside of as means to manipulate and that is pretty unethical. Great work querying it and I'd 2nd pinning your comment so folk aren't mislead.
Wait people actually considered that bethesda was being transparent!? What a grand and intoxicating innocence!
It is almost like Bethesda just keeps misleading people to get people to buy their stuff.
Besides. I don't think good sales necessarily mark a "good game" or good DLC in this case since that is highly subjective and not even limited to just the game itself but also gets heavily influenced by marketing and the community.
Oh my god. You are such a cheerleader for bsg. Bag is scummy company ripping off both modders and players. Major cringe.
As long as the paid mods are disabling achievements, I'm not buying them. The point of paying for them should be that they're then categorized as CC/DLC
Based on some of the new wording when loading the mod menu, they're seemingly planning to address this at some point. Still, the point stands. Also, any added assets should be allowed on PS.
The free mods disable achievements.
@@BRONCOJUGGALOTALKSMOVIES yeah, and?
I’m really surprised so many people care about achievement lol
@@qmarkp98 Achievements are fun and it used to be a distinction where the free stuff disables achievements while the stuff that costs money doesn't. If they both disable achievements, why not just download the free ones?

There is a FREE mod that actually animates ladders in Skyrim (skyclimb I believe)
There's also Animated Traversal
Imagine downloading this as a player new to Skyrim and you discover it turns off achievement 💀
holy shit let's fucking gooo
I'm WELL aware that I can get an outside mod to enable steam achievements, and it seems petty... but the paid mods were official before and didn't disable achievements and now that they disable achivements regardless, that kinda hurts the value of this and other content on the Creations storefront.
If they say creation club, then they don't disable achievements. Only those. The rest all mark you modified. Bethesda's way of making extra money off modders.
@@thomasaitken7495 Ferb! I know what we're going to do this weekend!
Just do a vanilla playthrough focused on achievements, Skyrim isn't too hard to 100% worst one I can think of is the one for beating a legendary dragon which don't spawn till you're high level around 70 I think, but glitches still work so you could power level up there pretty quick. It's what I did when creation club first came out so I could do a real playthrough with mods and not worry about it.
There's a big difference between creation club content and creations. The creation club content was designed to be part of the actual game and lore, and had strict rules around that to make sure that it fit. This is just mod creators making mods, but charging for it and giving a large cut to Bethesda.
I'm pretty sure a mod creator could use this system to make an entire new game, something like Enderal. Or they could add guns to the game (actually already a creation I believe). It wouldn't make sense for achievements to be enabled, because these aren't actually meant to be part of the official game, they're mods.
@@peterlewis2178 Only exception I would make for that would be for the unofficial patch. That fixes a lot of Bethesda left bugs. Though it does leave some new ones I guess? Illia for some reason had her dialog reset to when you first meet her at the tower. I used her as a steward for a Hearthfire house. Only way to fix it now is to find a new steward. Aside from an arrow to her back, I don't think there is another way to do that.
Danny single handedly decimates the Vale Deer population😂😂😂
Bethesda ain't getting any of my money after how much they screwed up Starfield
Their want to charge for mods drove me out. Also screw them for starfield. They had a perfect co op game and was like naw play alone

Just say you’re broke, hater.
And still no way to play with achievements. Edit: Find it shocking how many people are sucking up to the terrible idea of punishing people who paid for something. Just because ''you'' have the achievements already does not excuse how trash this implementation is to punish new players or players replaying the game on 1 of the newer versions.
Huh? I've been away since anniversary edition dropped. What did I miss? Is this part of the broken Creation Club thing I've heard people vaguely complain about?
There's a mod for that...
Basically they added more creations but they’re mods. You have to buy them and they’re developed to being on the level of creations BUT you cannot earn achievements when they’re enabled.
Doesn't solve it for console players.@@flyercurse
They recently added mods you have to pay for that aren't a part of the Creation Club DLC's. They range in various prices, however you cannot play with achievements if you pay for these mods meaning you're effectively being punished for playing with something you paid for.@@TailsNight
As a PlayStation player with limited mod access, I like Creations. I don’t buy every one, just a handful here or there if it interests me.
I watched this video twice because:
The first time round it was great to see another Skyrim video from Danny🥳
Secondly, I needed to count how many times 'Get Wrecked Son' (or a variation) was uttered: I counted 13 in total😁
Honourable mentions
*Lydia being compared to a horse
*Lydia showing what a true stallion she is when rising from the boulders, after Danny asks her to "look at this" tripwire 😅
*Upon seeing the Auriel shrine "Which removes diseases too so better get Lydia to touch it."
Poor Lydia! She was a total rock in that video though!
*Spi-der-roo!
*The Breton note at the beginning should have read, "I got wrecked son".
Absolutely enjoyed this video and it's a shame I could not like more than once. Looking forward to the next Skyrim one💜💖
One of the locations has some amazing environmental storytelling. You can find the remnants of a big battle between the Snow Elves and Falmer. Skeletons wearing armour killed over makeshift barricades. You can actually see where the Knight Paladins made their last stand.
For those wondering, the actual start of the "DLC"/paid mod in the video is at 7:46, the part before is the vanilla/Dawnguard one.
I hate that cave. The only one I avoid constantly.
If you pickpocket the ghosts before they attack you can get some really cool armor from them. If you do it after then you get nothing. Also behind that first tablet where the battle mage was is a chest and a couple items
Hi ESO I love ur videos they are great

I was planning to buy this mod after I finished Dawnguard in my current playthrough, but after watching this I think I'm going to go ahead and buy it just so I can say, "Get wrecked you dirty falmer, I'm going to eat your ear!"

Yayyyy! Skyrim video 👌
2 things this video made me certain of:
1 - still not paying for mods. Just because I'm on PS4 doesn't mean I'm desperate.
2 - I still hate both spiders and Darkfall Cave as much as I used to. I actually found a decent arcachnophobia mod that turns all spiders into wolves (even those in DLCs supposedly, like the albino ones) so they aren't a problem anymore, but I for sure ain't returning to vanilla any time soon.
I just subscribed because your voice is mesmerizing, and I love your game play.
I don’t think it looks bad but I have no interest in giving Bethesda money for mods. Not to mention the more content they add for this ancient game the more it messes with mods. Just make a new, good game bethesda, skyrim belongs to modders now.
Amen
Exactly. Skyrim belong to modders.
That's valid, but it is worth considering that you're also saying you're not interested in giving money to the mod creators who make these mods (unless you find them and donate to them without getting the actual mod). Granted, the bulk of the money is apparently still going to Bethesda, which is a bad look imo, but there still are developers who are just trying to actually make money from their work through this. These aren't made by Bethesda, they're made by regular modders, and just sold through Bethesda.
@@peterlewis2178 there are other ways to give money to modders. I've donated to mod authors through Patreon before. I've got no problem donating to mod authors but no way am I giving BGS any money, especially when they're taking a bigger cut on a modder's work from a game that's over 10 years old.
@@peterlewis2178 Yes, I don’t support paid mods, I do however have no problem with modders using things like Patreon for voluntary donations. If someone makes something you really appreciate then donating for their service (if you have the means) is common courtesy imo.
Its going to be how many times its been launched while installed, not even played and the real number is going to be around 10x the rating as that is about on par with other mod sites reporting unique downloads and reviews (even with it being easier and more in your face on the workshop so that is the high side number)
The mod doesn’t add a shortcut, Darkfall cave is the way to access the Forgotten vale in Dawnguard, the first chapel of peregrination is at the end, Gelebor gives you access to the Forgotten vale through the chapel, so they’re technically not connected. Still, you can go to the vale whenever you want, not only during the Dawnguard questline.
thanks for the video

Thank you for showing us this.
The "Unmarked Locations Pack" (including the Forgotten Vale) by GeraldMods is available on the nexus for free... Until they release a dlc sized "creation" with a questline, I remain sorely unimpressed.
I'd add "Legacy of the Dragonborn" for it's new area in the Forgotten Vale
(I'm working on a similar mod project myself, but it will be a while...)
While I would like to try the mods, I don't want to pay this much for them. I bought anniversary edition cause it gave me all creations (aka paid mods) and thought that was gonna be the end of it. But after every player has bought anniversary, suddenly they add new paid mods to see if they can get away with it. It's honestly disappointing.
I would much rather have them add an "official mod" section with mods that are certified by Bethesda to be lore friendly and of good quality, rather than mods designed with the purpose to just bring in cash. The mods are great and I appreciate the modders for making them, but I just don't want to let Skyrim drain my money again.
About to go to bed and hoping someone can answer, how many hours of game play does this add? It’s it a full add on with quests and story?
making an Oblivion mod guide would be pretty dope @ESO
If you get the full game in the PS4 plus pro it includes this and more mods including dawnstar and dragon born dlc

Is this compatible with the two current eso mod lists ?
Just support mod authors independently. Greedy cash grab
We can support them and I personally supported lot of them on Nexus.. It's not about the creators but about the strategy Bethesda is taking, it was acceptable at first but now the shit is getting ugly really.
@@Krosulhah Horse armour really set Bethesda down a fair path
I bought it a couple of days ago pretty decent
Anybody found the entire Initiate’s Raiment set yet? I can’t find the body armor and helmet!
There is no reality where I pay for mods, especially from a AAA company
a triple A company who realises a game once every decade. my take is they should have made another DLC by now which would have been great for them and for the players, we would finally get more actual cannon content and voice acted content instead of reading a note every 5 minutes. would happily pay £30 or so if they did a big DLC.
That 30% is bullshit. I could see Bethesda TAKING 30% for use of its assets but to only give a freelance dev 30% for doing literally all the heavy lifting is bullshit.
This doesn't feel like it actually adds much to the depth or lore of the elder scrolls.
It's just dungeons and an armour set - which is fine. But I'm not going to pay for it. It saddens me to say but Danny will publicise pretty much anything that Bethesda releases... no matter how mercantile it is in nature... or how average it is in quality.
He does it so you wouldn't have to pay for it.
Skyrim is like that uncle that has a party trick every-time you see him.
I just got my Skyrim working after months of fiddling around with mods and everything else. After their last update, it seems like they do this on purpose.
I don't care, I'm not paying for mods that should be free.
agreed
I'm just gonna point out that this sounds extremely entitled. Saying you won't pay for it because there are free mods that can get you the same kind of experience is valid. But saying that you won't pay for it because it "should" be free implies that you think it's your right to be given free content that takes tens or hundreds of hours of unpaid volunteer work by mod authors... and that's not a good look.
@@peterlewis2178
I agree. Paid mods definitely shouldn't come at the expense of limiting access to free mods, but as long as that's not the case it's not a bad thing for mod authors to choose to make money from their work. They also definitely shouldn't be used as a replacement for dlc, and they could potentially set a bad precedent for how Bethesda monetises their own dlc.

They are working on a solution to allow Verified Creators to enable achievements for their creations. However, new achievements would require an actual update to the game itself by Bethesd, which will once again break the game for a lot of heavy mod users because many mods would then require updating to work with the latest updated version of the game.

Skyrim is definitely a game that appeals to completionists, but a lot of people never unlocked all the achievements because they played the game with mods or across the old versions SSE.
Is echoes of the vale safe to add to a current playthrough?
I keep hearing people wishing that new armor models be added to these things. This may be problematic if the Verified Creator wants the mod to be available for PC, Xbox and PS. We know that PS mods are not allowed to include some elements that PX and XBox mods can have. Therefore, by working only with assets that are common to all platforms, the issue is rendered moot.
What would work is if the game were to receive another update including a wide variety of new skins for weapons, armor and a variety of other items. This way, future creations can include new gear-based appearance options, beyond the scope of the base assets.
However, we all know what happens every time the game itself receives updates. Do we want mods to break yet again and need yet another update pass just for the sake of new cosmetic assets that work on all platforms (actually just the one platform that refuses to get with the times and allow what their competition allows)? The less Bethesda has to break modding to support modding, the better.
Frankly for TES6 and Starfield, I'm hoping that the skins for all items include color regions based on "material 1, material 2 etc" type designations. Want a variant of armor that has black leather, gold plating and red cloth, then adjust the RGB values for those materials. For items with Gemstones in them, a color region for the gemstones would be logical. Let each regon be able to take RGB values.
