Our 5 man deer hunting party have been using 240HV for 3 yrs. 100yd zero, 2.5min up@200yds, and 7min up@300yds. Three shot group@300yds 1.75". Velocity 2590fps w 22" and 24" barrels; 1513fps@300yds verified with SMT E tgt..3 rifles are CVA Cascade XT rifle 22" bbl Burris xtr2 3-15 scope. Deer are DRT. 4gr loss is polymer tip. Try the 200HV@2806FPS verified w/Garmin Xero. Remember BCB expands down to 1100fps whereas Hornady CX and Barnes TSX expand 1800fps below that they pencil thru game with no expansion.
Doe frontal shot thru heart @200yds just held 5 inches high DRT I have moa scope reticle so holdovers no problem second nature. I shoot F class competition
Blackbutterfly is the ammo manufacturer i use now. I have tried just about all the 450bm loads they offer but the turbo tomahawk is some badass stuff. Give it a try and see what you think. Its not only stupid fast, its accurate. Thats the part that gets missed so often. Blackbutterfly has been making 450bm ammo for a while now. I also use their expanding subsonic 450bm ammo. In my AR15 450bm the "Screamer" is what i tend to shoot. Its so flat shooting for a 450BM and i get 1.5 inch groups at 100yards for 5 shots.
I also use the black butterfly ammo and it is awesome. Even the sub heavy weight puts holes in a bear the lung was actually hanging out the exit side hole. The turbo and hex for deer are awesome as well.
Been using the BCB 225 grain 44 magnum version on Mississippi deer for a couple of years. Put down several and they perform very well. Would like to see those in a gel test but have to believe they would do well there also. I think they add considerable distance to the 44 magnum rifle. Do enjoy your ammo tests and Federal can thank you for selling me on their 165 grain fusion 30-06.
This ammo is awesome have been using it for 3 years now and will not shoot any other ammo. Ive even tried black butterfly and spent $100's on their stuff with all their options, none group as well. Shot many deer past 200 and the dont make it far. Shoulders dont even stop this stuff. 😂 Dont aim there!!! Great review.
Recoil about same as 20ga pump shotgun. Had 12-14yr old kids try CVA Cascade XT rifle 24T bbl. No problem or scope bite. 5/8" group @100yds off Wiebags.
Would love to see what the Black Butterfly Turbo Tomahawks perform after seeing this one. 250gr at 2,400fps puts them right there in this energy class.
With a little scope tweaking, that should be a 200-225 yard sledgehammer. Not in my arsenal, but that ammo would be on its menu if it were. Their prices are a bit $$$, but my 500 S&W food costs about the same, so not outside the ordinary. I like the way you worked the bolt on that Ruger, pigs somewhere are quaking in their hooves.😊
The copper ammo offerings appear to be gaining traction. The standard version of Black butterfly tomahawk works well in the Ruger American Ranch 450 BM for whitetails. It satisfied my preference for extra expansion over excessive penetration performance..but just like ice cream has many flavors you need to sample a few to know what you like. Thank you for the useful content.
Yea, seating the bullet out farther, making room for more powder. Makes for go faster. I do like the 16" bbl. Gen I for Hunting from ground blinds and stands. Ive got a 20" Ruger Gen II, Savage 110 Haymaker, gotta see what I can get velocity wise, from the longer barrels.
Awesome video man. I would love to see you test some of the black butterfly 450 bushmaster loads. Particularly the 160 gr screamer and the 250 gr turbo tomahawk. Those 2 and the bear creeks are the 3 I'm trying to choose from.
Makes me have thoughts of trading in my 444 marlin. Ammo is only available before deer season. .430 dia rifle bullets, not pistol bullets, are hard to come by. 450 Bush master is looking more attractive.
I think one if the most important features for hunting ammo is repeatability. These rounds seem to perform the same each time. A round that varies a lot from shot to shot is a bad hunting load. These seem awesome. Thanks Mason 👍
Hi Mason-have you ever considered testing DRT ammo? They make lead free frangible rounds in 308, 30-06, and 300 win mag. All 175gr. It’s marketed as hunting ammo but I’m a little skeptical of the penetration because it’s frangible but Nathan Foster spoke highly of them in his article titled “how copper bullets can be inhumane”. I haven’t seen any popular gun/hunting channels test this brand yet.
It’s a fine entry level scope for if that’s all you’re budget allows for. I use them on my test rifles because they’re inexpensive but good enough and have a forever warranty. I have several (I think 3 or 4 at least) and have yet to have any issues with them. That said, my primary hunting rifles all have Leupold or Swarovski scopes.
Thank you, I primarily use Leupold on my hunting rifles too, but I have a 9 year old daughter who wants to start hunting so I want to set her up with something good, but that is not too expensive.
This is what happens when you take a cartridge that has a really watered down max pressure and push it to the limits common sense says should be safe in strong actions. 450 BM is watered down on max pressure even compared to most other AR cartridges and most manufacturers load to the that low spec instead of loading a bespoke load for strong actions now that bolt and break actions are widely used for hunting. Unless you needed to take follow up shots, 450 BM was weaker than a modern inline muzzleloader. Now that it’s been allowed to run to its potential, there’s real appeal to the cartridge. I can tell you deer bang flop or don’t go real far when you hit them with a Barnes or Hornady copper projectile going behind a stout load of BH209. Now 450 BM can do the same with even more range.
True it is watered down. Considering there's bolt actions and AR platform's ammo manufacturers has to sell safe ammo in all available firearms on the market. Look at the 6mm ARC, Hornady has reload data for both gas gun and bolt action. They can't sell 2 different loads for liability reasons to consumers because 1 may grab the hotter load for bolt actions and fire it from an AR then blow their gun up. Would it be the ammo manufacturers fault because the person bought then fired the wrong ammo in the wrong gun... no it wouldn't be, but considering sue happy people it's not worth the risk.

You should consider a 200 yard zero, I bet you can keep it within the heart/lung out to 250 yards without making any adjustments.

Don’t own a 450 but with how good these reviews have been I may need to look into them for the caliber I do own

On behalf of all trackers, THANK YOU for the "don't aim there" comment!
I use these out of a ruger number 1 single shot,it is awesome, no tracking required. One and done.

Been waiting for this one!

Great test! They also sell these bullets as a reloading component. I'm getting 2500 fps and 1 1/2" 5 shot groups at 100 yards.
Glad to be of service, thanks for watching!

I think I found a new round for my 450BM rifle , thanks for reviewing this ...

Any chance you will be doing the 200 grain bullets?
Been waiting for this one 🎉

Great vid!! Good info on my favorite caliber. They don't call it "Thumper" for no reason!

Really good info in this video, would love to see how the 200 grain version performs as well 👍
Would love to see the 6.8 Western at some point!
Please do 90 grain 243 nosler ballistic tip ammo.
Great video I'm definitely wanting this for my gen 2 ruger just hope it likes it
Glad to be of service, thanks for watching!
On the website he says 23” barrel for full velocity. My 22” is doing about 2560 on a 30 degree day
Outstanding
I am interested in the ar version

The test barrel for these is 22” so that’s your velocity loss.
How was the recoil?
I don’t remember, fairly stout I’m sure
More than a 30-06, which will push a 220 to 2500 fps. Especially out of a light, short rifle.
I want to try these
Nice.
Glad to be of service, thanks for watching!
Federal premium 300gr cast core 44 mag
I see I a lot of your videos you use vortex gross II scopes. What is your thoughts on the scope, would it make a good hunting scope?
It’s a fine entry level scope for if that’s all you’re budget allows for. I use them on my test rifles because they’re inexpensive but good enough and have a forever warranty. Stellar
If you can find the federal fusion 260 grain 450 it would be nice to see how they do
Could You make a cross draw single action revolver holster?
Forget hunting rounds: these puppies would qualify for bear defense!
It’s good stuff

no replacement for PSI!!
Great ammo but just wait too expensive
How about posting what you paid for the test ammo.
Should be good enough for moose & grizzly 🤔
250gr should be pushing 2900fps. seems slow
