Living near and hunting Units 27 and 1 for more than forty years. Elk and deer hunting in units 1 and 27 has been decimated since the introduction of the Mexican gray wolf. Gone are the herds of 100 to 150 elk in the September rut. Now we see the AZG&F department eliminate the over the counter archery tag for these units. The 'double dipping' is only an excuse to cover up the actual culprit. I was around when grad students from the Eastern United States were hiking around Stray Horse in the 90's. I saw the initiation of the wolves, I saw pens ( just North of Gray's Peak on the East side of the highway) that were set up in 'closed' (closed after archery hunters saw what they were doing) areas of the forest where they drugged elk to allow the wolf to attack with little or no chance of injury. I personally witnessed a kid goat chained to a ponderosa pine at the Stray Horse area. In the projects beginning, litters of pups that did not look like a wolf, having spots and monolithic coat color etc., were euthanized by the USWS. This was reported in the Greenlee paper for the first couple of litters that were destroyed but covered up afterwards. If you want to see a wolf in the 'wild', set up near the 6K6 ranch just North of 4-Bar Mesa or by Beaver Creek Lodge area South of Buffalo Crossing on FSR 24 and use any varmit call, you don't have to be proficient to call them in. The wolves were and most likely are still fed at these locations periodically. In the 1990's the telltale plastic bullet 12 guage shells littered these areas. This was the USWS's attempt to move the wolves out of the area. I realize that this will most likely be removed because this doesn't support the narrative. Follow the money, I'm sure the AZG&F receives money from the USWS for the fostering of the wolves. BTW the entire area between I-10 and I-40 across the entire state of Arizona has been designated as wolf environment by the Federal government. However, tribal lands have been excusing themselves from the project like the Apaches.

This is one of the largest waste of money and resources. I would rather have the elk and deer populations like we use to have in the 90's.

Wouldn't is be nice for Azgfd to cooperate with hunters that have cameras all over the place to aid in the management of all wildlife instead of taking them away because of who knows what!!
