#DDay80
6 June 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
We were honoured to welcome D-Day veteran, George Chandler to our Explosion Museum.
George joined the Royal Navy in 1943 and served as a Seaman Gunner on Motor Torpedo Boat (MTB) 710 which saw action on D-Day off Omaha and Utah beaches.
MTB 710 was sunk by a mine in the Adriatic in April 1945 and George was one of only 12 survivors from the crew of 31.
George shared some incredible memories and moving stories with us. It was a privilege to meet him and personally thank him for his service and sacrifice.
