You make things look so easy. I have this weird problem called “how hard can it be”, especially after watching one of your videos! Let me tell you, it CAN be hard. You are one of the best teachers I’ve ever watched and I’ve been doing cakes 20+ years.
Hey #cakebestieinmyhead! Thank you for this video! Magnificent work as always! I am saving this one because fondant shoes have always been a challenge for me! I am learning from you on how to make my cakes stand out more! I want to increase my customer base and eventually be able to do this full time in the coming years! God willing! Thank you for being AWESOME! Blessings to you and your family! ❤
Wow! That shoe looks great! I must be completely honest, i had no idea there was a kit for this! I've only had a couple of orders with the shoe and I just eye balled them. They were ok, but i am definitely getting this kit and making samples to showcase!!! Thank you for sharing this info i really appreciate it!
Thank you for the video!! The tip I learned from you is putting the shoe on upon delivery or giving it to the customer to put on once they are at the site of the occasion !! Thank you again.
Your shoe looks AWEsome Karolyn!!! You made that look effortless. I’ve made quite a few. They’re fun to construct cept when it’s hot out…which is why… I use isomalt for the heel core and then I cover it…in the fondant for strength. For the red bottoms-I stack my fondant and then cut with an exacto. I’ll send you a pic of my last one. It was made out of modeling chocolate. That whole cake is perfect execution.❤love it
Hi Karolyn, I love your tutorials. You explain everything so well! Can you show a tutorial for your designer brand cake you put your beautiful shoe topper on? Thank You x
This is the exact cutter/moulds I have and I bought mines many years ago too and only pulled it out as have an cake order with a stiletto heel. But looking forward to making it
Definitely. I’m away to make the heel just now and leave it til Monday, then I’ll continue it next week. Have you ever made one that’s got a sling back. The customer would like that, but I’m not sure if it crack if I do that.
Looooving This!!! The cake design is soo beautiful!!! 😮Oooooookaaay, lol confession time, when I first started learning about fondant,i purchased two different shoe kits one was from Amazon and the other one was from NY Cake, I attempted to make the heel and became frustrated because it wouldn’t hold its shape but mind you I had noooo clue about gum paste or cmc powder 😂 so you know how that came out…Lol now you gonna make me dust off my shoe kit and give it a go lol…
Was excited to see another video this week. The cake is Amazing and that shoe is so classic and spot on. Amazing work as always👠. How much did you charge for this cake?
Hi Karolyn, I want to learn how to do a designer cake like the one the shoe is on. It was so elegant and gorgeous! Did you print the wrap on edible icing sheets? You are gifted, talented, and amazing. I love, love, your cakes.
Thank you Pat! Yes, I printed edible images and wrapped them around the bottom tier. That week was so busy for me so I wasn't able to film that one. 😢😢
Excellent tutorial as always Karolyn. Just wondering if you could roll out the (bottom of the shoe) red fondant, then layer it on the thicker black fondant (gluing then together) and then use the cutter to cut them at one time rather than separately?
You definitely can! I find that sometimes if you cut 2 different colors stuck together with 1 cutter that the fondant runs into the other color. Meaning the edges of the black may be pushed down onto the red. I know that may sound confusing but hope that makes sense! LOL
Loved this video! One question; how did you do the ‘checkerboard sides on middle layer’? And the other decorations on the other layers? Sorry, but had to ask, lol
The top tier is simple...covered in fondant and a fondant strip at the top. The logo I used my trace and cut method. And I made the bow like I show in this video: th-cam.com/video/UTLadbJTKO8/w-d-xo.html
Oh no! This went on a fondant covered cake, so I would recommend either covering the cake in fondant or making a small platform for the heel to sit on (maybe cover a foam core board in fondant and set that on top.)
@@KarolynsKakes have to admit, the first time I tried it, I waited too long and did it 2 days before it was due. Didn't set up properly and ended up doing something else 😩
I have a question can I freeze a carrot cake cause I did carrot cake loaf and one of them was kind of soggy. I’m sorry I’m texting through this one you Xue cake looks good cause that was my question about the carrot cake. I’m so sorry kind of crazy JP from Miami. Thank you. It’s always a pleasure.
Hi Karolyn! I am currently working on a shoe topper like this one. How many days did you wait until you removed the shoe from the shoe former? This cake is due on Friday and I want to make sure that the bottom of the sole is also completely dried and it will not collapse on me.
I made a whole video on that! th-cam.com/video/gfc0heeMRmY/w-d-xo.html Some mediums are more forgiving than others so you can move the pieces around once you stick them down.
When I place the fondant in the shoe mold, that's is when I insert a skewer in the bottom of the heel. This helps when I put the shoe on the cake with a skewer in the heel going down to the cake. .
For anyone watching that doesn't have a shoe kit, don't get discouraged! It absolutely can be done without a kit! Follow the same guidelines and cut the pieces out yourself.
If you enjoy my tutorials, I'd be so grateful if you could Buy Me A Coffee!

OMG it's so much easier with the kit! And this is a basic shoe, once you get the hang of it, you can do so many more designs with it!
You are sooooo talented !!!
I love the detail of your cake. Mine wasn’t as detailed but I was really proud of the outcome.
Very impressive as always!!

The kit really makes the process so easy!
Thank you I'm making one next week.. wish me luck !!!❤❤
You got this! Just make sure you make it far enough in advance so it can dry hard and hold its shape 😊
You always make it look so easy, it would take me twice as long, and wouldn't look as neat. Thank you as always Karolyn.
This kit really makes it easy! You just have to make sure you leave plenty of time, so everything can dry hard. ☺️
Beautiful like everything you do 😊
You’re adorable, thank you Caylie 🥰

Thanks for another great video and stunning cake! I hope the middle tier didn't give your the "Minecraft cake stress". :) So perfect!
Ummm I almost started crying 🤣🤣🤣

Love it!
Love it ❤
I love this video! I’m ordering that shoe kit now!
It really makes this so easy!
To make the liner, could you use the cutter for the sole and just trim the end of it?
I did one for My BDay 5 year's ago n it was similar to ur
you are a God send, thought I was would have to buy a shoe and take it apart. I couldn't bring myself to destroying a pair of new shoes.

I love it
This is awesome
I love you
Love you back!
Was excited to see another video this week. The cake is Amazing and that shoe is so classic and spot on. Amazing work as always👠. How much did you charge for this cake?
Nice! I have a kit like this! However, instead of Googling the insole template, I use the sole cutter again and just trim it to the shoe 🙂
OMG DUH!! Clearly my mind was frazzled, that's a much easier option, thank you!!😂

Loved this video! One question; how did you do the ‘checkerboard sides on middle layer’? And the other decorations on the other layers? Sorry, but had to ask, lol
I was in mini square hell for like an hour while I did that middle tier LOL
I used the largest cutter from this set: amzn.to/3H00SA8
Although I feel like these would have been better to use! amzn.to/41Jbnjb

The top tier is simple...covered in fondant and a fondant strip at the top. The logo I used my trace and cut method. And I made the bow like I show in this video: th-cam.com/video/UTLadbJTKO8/w-d-xo.html
Very pretty! Once a made a cake with high heel shoe and the heel was sinking in the cake, did you do something to prevent that? Thanks for helping
Oh no! This went on a fondant covered cake, so I would recommend either covering the cake in fondant or making a small platform for the heel to sit on (maybe cover a foam core board in fondant and set that on top.)
@@KarolynsKakes thank you very much! I appreciate your advice💐
It a beautiful job, where can I get the kit to make the shoe..
I linked it in the description :)
Did you record that whole cake?? 👀👀 would love to see a designer cake!
I didn’t and I’m shopping myself for it because everyone keeps asking! 😔
@@KarolynsKakeshow about a tutorial on it using cake dummies because this cake is a masterpiece! ❤
Ok. Karolyn. I'm going to give this a try. How far in advance can I make the shoe? My shoe always break at the heel......
I usually make it 4-5 days in advance so it has time to dry hard.
i have the same kit but instead of styrofoam the pieces are mostly clear plastic. Nice Work!
It makes the whole process so easy!

I believe I let it sit in the former for like 3-4 days.
@@KarolynsKakes I took it off yesterday morning and it seems dry for the most part! 😬🤞🏽
Random question...how do you flavor your icing...or do you at all?
Wilton Clear Vanilla Extract is my favorite flavoring! I add between 2-3 tsp to my icing. amzn.to/3n2UPUq
@@KarolynsKakes is vanilla the only flavor you ever use
will you do a tutorial on the whole cake
I’m sorry I didn’t film that one 😢
Just curious, why do you sometimes use piping gel to stick pieces together and other times use just water?
I made a whole video on that! th-cam.com/video/gfc0heeMRmY/w-d-xo.html
Some mediums are more forgiving than others so you can move the pieces around once you stick them down.
I have the same one U have
If I make the shoe 2 weeks before starting on the cake would it still be ok?
Yes! I think that with a decoration like this, the longer it can dry and harden, the better. 😊
@@KarolynsKakes thank you so much
When I place the fondant in the shoe mold, that's is when I insert a skewer in the bottom of the heel. This helps when I put the shoe on the cake with a skewer in the heel going down to the cake. .

@@KarolynsKakes decorations with fondant and with buttercream.
Mine was a LV 😊 where can I send u a Picture...?
You can email KakeAcademy@gmail.com 😊
How thick is the black sole? I made one but it keeps cracking😢
Probably 1/4" - 1/3" thick. Did you use Marshmallow fondant with GumTex / Tylose powder? If you used store bought fondant, that may be your issue.
For anyone watching that doesn't have a shoe kit, don't get discouraged! It absolutely can be done without a kit! Follow the same guidelines and cut the pieces out yourself.
What cake size should have for this shoes topper ???
It has to be at least 6" for the shoe to fit.
