or a little had with a flower on it and she could be called Doris. Perhaps with a bun, with a knitting needle sticking out. And you could drive DeeDee and Doris to all kinds of exciting places....
Paused again. Whith absolute kindness: You really don't know how cats work, do you?😂 That is exactly what cats live for! Taking up most inconvenient spots but being so cute, content and feigning such innocence that we allow them to. Most cats circulate between some favorite spots, our tomcat picks his bed for a week. Most weeks it is a specific, different pillow on the couch (and he will bully you to lie it flat if it is propped up) but we have seen windowsill (not great because too narrow), in a cubby hole in the closet, on my knitting, on top of the bookcase, on my pillow (he did try my head too, once. It didn't make the cut, thankfully), on the printer, in his sisters favorite bed (the bastard!) and a certain step of the stairs. (an absolute hazard because you can hardly see him when it is a bit dark or shady) Just so you know. And don't bother to buying a cat bed or basket. No need to ask me how I know. And I will not confess to how many times I tried. I will now press 'play' again.
I love the way you gave your passenger a face. I really felt it when you touched the tree. So great of Dan to take on dinner. Tell him how wonderful he is please. Ali, you really are a cat person.
Hahaha. Dan nearly turned into Gordon Ramsey for a minute there. Thank you so much for your fabulous vlogtober videos, they’ve been wonderful. Cheers Chris 😁🇦🇺
Enjoy your time at the Lay family retreat. Regarding your comment about “more cheese”, I would agree, and add that the world could never have too many potatoes. I have enjoyed your Vlogtober episodes. Thank you.❤️😊
I am not sure which was more entertaining, Dan standing behind you waiting for you to finish up so he can place dinner down or Mia annoyed because you woke her was too funny! I will miss your vlogs! Thank you for taking the time each day! Enjoy your time at the Lay Family Retreat! I am just finishing a crochet shawl with your Wonderland Walks yarn with Lay Family yarn. The yarn and the color are beautiful!! ❤
When you have a cat even when “It’s not your Cat” you live with them not the other way round!😂 So appreciate all the woodland nature you film Ali, you do it so well. Your cross stitch came out so well, love it! Dan is becoming quite the chef 👨🍳. Hope you have a wonderful time at Lay Family retreat 🧶 love & Hugs, Suze. 🍝🐈🍄🍄🟫🌳🍁🤗 xxx
Your cross stitch looks really good in that frame & you did exactly the right thing with the lacing at the back of the card. The only thing I’d recommend is that in the future when you press your finished piece lay it face down on a thick fluffy towel so that you don’t squash your stitches & that way they will stay “plumpfy” ! Thank you for all your vlogs & have a wonderful time at the retreat.
How you framed your cross stitch was how I use to frame mine Ali. I use to do cross stitch 30 plus years ago and the cross stitch I framed are still alright. Some of my pictures were really big cross stitch and I used the cardboard and thread to frame them and they are still alright. So your picture will look lovely for a very long time. Enjoy the retreat, I can imagine it will be a lot of fun. xxx
Your cross-stitch looks so cool in the frame. A word to the wise, lacing across the back over a hard card or plywood is the thing to do, but you need to use an acid free board if you want it to live. After 20 years ( yeah ok) an embroidery of a baby zebra I did started to disassemble itself and the thread had been degraded by the acid in the backing board and the embroidery was disappearing. Most distressing! Have a lovely time at retreat!
Often I silently channel all kinds of comments at you while watching the video, and then when it is finished, it feels like I have commented and I am lost for words in the actual comments. So I don't often actually comment. This time I had to pause you, to make sure to say: Your car friend really cracked me up! I had a chuckle when I saw the thumbnail, but the eyes..!! gosh, that really got me 🤣🤣🤣
The footage of the horse chestnuts reminded me of the book I'm listening to on audible called "the overstory" by Richard powers. I can highly recommend it! It's such a great listen.
Traffic is just dreadful! I was stuck for 4.5 hours on the turnpike a few weeks ago!!! I thought I would go mad!! Glad you made it home safe and sound!! I love your favorite tree!!! ❤
So excited for you going to the Lay Family Retreat, I went at the beginning of this month and it still makes my heart happy to think of the weekend and all the ladies and Nick that I got to meet. Have a fabulous time ❤
Weyward! What a book. I got a copy for my birthday and couldn't put it down. The eyeball book has pics of crows in the corner of the pages so when you flick through they look like they're flying. Beautiful!
I recently read Weyard and thought it was something you would enjoy. curious to hear how you like it. I could see it being good on audio but I found it perfect for cuddling up in bed and reading the hard cover. I love your vlogs. they gave me comfort and a wholesome distraction while caregiving for (and grieving) my mom last year. Also an introvert who enjoys quiet solitude, nature strolls, cozy cups of tea and a good book.
You are officially a "cat servant." 😂😂😂 Mia is a very lucky girl! Thank you for a wonderful month of vlogs and have a fabulous time at the retreat! I am green with envy. 💛💛💛 #globaldanfan
Thank you so much for your vlogs! I love them so much and cheer y’all on from North Carolina. You’re such a delight and I appreciate how much work you put into these. Can’t wait to see what happens in December!
Looks like Dan did wonderful job with dinner! Your Halloween decor is very cool! Loved the walk at lunch time! Hope you have a spectacular time at the retreat!!
Lovely homely, interesting vlogs thanks Ali. Is it just me that can spot a resemblance to Dan in the car seat face? Or maybe I’ve watched too many of your vlogs - surely not! 🤣
Really enjoyed your October vlogs, I am playing catch up as I had a quick 5 dat trip to Kent to stay with my Mum, she was having surgery then it was cancelled last minute. So it’s been lovely to see Kent for real at the same time. Thank you for taking this time to share your life I love love every moment.❤
yep, that's how it goes with cats. The Cat Commandments. Growing up I thought that my family was alone in the cat-in-your-lap-cannot-move-so-must-be-waited-on rule, but I have met so many others with the same story. And I think another one is if a cat finds a comfy spot to nap in, no matter how inconvenient it is for the humans, that spot remains undisturbed until cat moves on to a new spot. Fortunately they always find a new favourite eventually. Oh, and I had to laugh at Dan glowering in the background with arms folded, he was going to get out the wooden spanking spoon in a minute! #stern-chef-Dan
Gosh, I'm certainly going to miss your vlogtober! Thanks for all your effort in doing a daily vlog, its been wonderful! I love Mia being such a typical cat! By the way, just after she gave you a disgruntled look for making noise opening your package, she washed behind her ear which typically means its going to rain soon. Have you had rain? It is an old wives tale that has some scientific explanation though - but for thunderstorms (so maybe this is only a thing in South Africa where we have a lot of thunderstorms?!). When a storm is approaching the static builds up so to release the static in their fur they use a fore paw to rub their fur "backwards"/against the direction of growth. We also have an indigenous flower (Dietes grandiflora) that flower jist before rain, so when our cats wash behind their ears and the Moreas (they used to be called Morea) are flowering, rain is guaranteed within a few hours.
I haven't done cross stitch for years. But your lovely Halloween one has re inspired me. Ahhh that's how you framed it. Enjoy your weekend and Thankyou for vlogtober.
Great month of vlogs. When I was going through a bad patch of bullying at work my youngest bought me the worry people in Ecuador. I still treasure them. I was quite upset to see who left Bake Off last night😢😢🇨🇦🇨🇦
Another lovely vlog. Re cross stitch. My mum 91 still does it and for years had her big pictures laced like you have by a framer. Her smaller things she bought the stitch glue boards and cut to size to fit. After ironing her work Dad stuck it smoothly to the board and put in a frame. Slightly quicker than the stitching it all tight. You might like to try another time x
Another enjoyable vlogtober! Thank you. See you're a natural at framing your cross stitch and I didn't need to give you tips in your previous episode. 😁
Thanks for a fab month Ali. Loved every moment. Excited to tell you i’ve filmed a video and set it to public 😱😂. Have a spectacularly wonderful weekend ❤️ You’ll definitely come back home with achy cheeks from lots of smiling and laughing. Oh how I wish I could join you all. Love Karen x. PS Omg you’ve made me laugh how you’re nonchalantly ignoring Dan’s vibes over dinner dishing up time 😂. The look on his face 😂.
I was already going to comment how thoughtful it was for you and Dan to bring in the dryer for Mia before you ended up mentioning it. 😂 I love how you all cater to (not) your cat. Also, I may be mistaken, but I think this is the first time that we (USA) can see the current season of The Great British Baking Show (as it’s called here on Netflix). So exciting! Although the episodes drop here a few days later, at least we don’t have to wait another year. Thanks for a great month of vlogs! I’m glad it will be time for Vlogmas before we know it.
This is a question for Dan… Dan, will you share the details of the crust you used for the meat pie you prepared recently? I looked back at that day and didn’t see a recipe. I apologize if the details were given and I missed them. Thank you!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the song you used on your walk. Do you mind sharing the name? and your cross stitch is so beautiful!! Another most enjoyable journey with you!!!!!
Message from Sharon. Who is the female singer of the song in your vlog, when you're walking in the woods? Queen of Hearts? Really look forward to your vlogs each day ❤
The worry dolls secured a top grade in my final english exam 30 years ago. We were 5 top grades in that year of about 100 students. #notahumblebrag. #justbragging
I’m a little behind on your vlogs but I love your car companion. You need to give her a name. But it looked like someone rolling their eyes sometimes. 😂 also I love your background song you played. What is the name of the song and artist? Oh I listened further you said it is queen of hearts. Who is the artist? Dan and Mia really stole the show in the background. 😂
Hello Miss Grumpy👋..glad you got home safely. If it’s any consolation. You look fabulous in the car as the red brake lights in front of you come on.Very Halloweeny.Lighting, eh? 😉Hope the weekend brings peace and rejuvenation.Pinch and Punch..first of the month for Scullery Dan..for such a manly man he’s very gentle with puss.❤️🙏🐨🦘🌏xx
I think your cross stitch is great and your right to be proud of it. The way you've framed it is the traditional way and a lot of professional framers do it that way. However you can use acid free sticky tape to hold it to the acid free card for smaller pictures. I frame mine the traditional way too. 😃😃 Hope you do another one maybe for Christmas? By the way I got notification my advent yarn is on its way. My very first I'm so excited😀😀😀😀
I have some Peruvian worry folk I tell my worries to then blow a kiss in the pouch 😂 had them for years given to me by Maryte a Peruvian teacher that came over 10yrs ago to study teaching English for 8 weeks & I hosted her through UEA & Salvation Army we have remained friends so I get a double feeling of well-being worry folk & Maryte that’s who the kiss is for
I have really enjoyed watching…how is October ending already? Am I the only one bummed Vlogtober ends before your retreat??? Maybe you could Vlog a little and show us on your other channel?? If you just need the rest/relax , I understand that, too! We have a retreat coming up next weekend that I’m currently overpacking for, I always have unrealistic goals of ALL the crafting I’m going to do!
Just loved Mia’s expression sitting on the tumble dryer- it was priceless! Loved car seat man companion too! Your vlogs are such a joy Ali xx
Thank you for a wonderful month. I’ve been in hospital for a week and you have kept me company. Love to all xx
I hope you’re on the road to feeling better ❤
Hope you feel better soon. Hugs, Karen x

Loved your Vlogtober ❤ 🎃. I’m listening to Weyward too and enjoying it so much. 😊

In the UK til November 3. Then back to the US to VOTE! Has been great avoiding the election stress….I truly was feeling it.
Considering you said you don't know how to frame a cross stitch, it sounds like you did quite a professional job lacing the back. It is stunning!
Love the cross stitch !!!
Thanks for a lovely month, I’ve really looked forward to your videos each day ❤

Always more cheese as far as I’m concerned, too.
And I can see why that tree in the beginning is your favorite. It’s beautiful.

A friend of mine hand knit hats for all the headrests in his car. You can try getting your knit mojo back by knitting a hat for your passenger seat.
Loved Weyward too. ☺️📖
So sad that we are coming to the end of blogtober. Not jealous at all that you are going on a Lay Family Retreat. No not at all! Lol!
