guess what? I got my M32 about 9 months ago and used it only as a midi keyboard within Ableton + various third party plugins - now I´m just starting to realize the power of this little bag of tricks... thanks again for another straight to the point review, dear Sanjay!
This is the one piece of gear I've been eyeing since namm. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Great video! You helped me realize this is exactly what I want.
NI has been killing it lately, what an awesome company. I bought a maschine mikro like two weeks ago after I've been doing everything manually within ableton, after discovering and playing around with that and reaktor i haven't used ableton at all and now really the only time I'll even use it is for sequencing and mastering. Everything is so easy to use and you really can just go straight from the box to producing even if you dont know a damn thing about any of it. My only regret is getting the mikro instead of the maschine mk3 because the mikro doesn't do standalone mode, i was afraid to drop a bunch of money and having to spend like a month figuring out how to use it, now that ive actually found out how easy all of it is to use i should have just spent the dough, all of it is so amazing. I cant wait to add the kontrol to my set up. Ive had a mpk mini for a long long long time and I think I've spent maybe 3 weeks of actually using it in the 3 or 4 years ive had it, I hated it and its always felt broken to me. NI stuff just works straight away which is the way it should be. Another thing about the mikro I dont like is its sequencing, but like I said before im using ableton for that so its not even an issue.
Nice to hear you're enjoying your NI experience. hey, if you've got a little extra cash to spare, consider going with the S-Series keyboard. Nice you have the Mikro, you'll benefit from the screens on the S-series. They are totally worth it. I go through the difference between the NI keyboards here: th-cam.com/video/Ua6zxWHoxm8/w-d-xo.html
I've been using the M32 and A49 for a few years now. The M32 gets far more use these days as it's a great little midi keyboard and has all the control that the A49 has. That said the A49 has more range of course and the pitch and mod wheels are far more accurate for subtle adjustments. Consider getting both and you will be well covered on the midi key front.
Looks good to me. Just what you said, the lack of drum pads is a pity. I already have multiple keyboards but the NI with lot’s of software included for such an affordable price is a steal! By the way: I always love your honest review video’s.
@@SanjayC Oh hey, I actually came here to ask a question about the m32 but I got distracted by this 😂 anyway, I'll be abroad for an internship for 6 months or so and can't go without making music for that long so I've been looking at the m32. Just wondering how the keys feel compared to a "normal" keyboard. I can't play this anywhere locally, and my brother has an Akai but I hate those keys. I know you mentioned the keys a bit in the video, but if you were to compare them to a normal scale keyboard, are they similar or do they have that bouncy/stiff feel? Thanks :)
Great video as ususal. How would you compare these keys to the MiniLab. I want a portable way to use my NI instruments but I love the keys on the MiniLab mk2.
Thank you for another to-the-point review, Sanjay. Been looking for an instrument that's on the cheaper side and small enough to fit my compact home studio (main goal is to have swifter control on the NI ecosystem). I'd been eyeing A series when they dropped this one at NAMM. Look forward to getting it.
Hi Sunjay, Thanks for your helpful reviews! I purchased the M32 after watching your video. However, after many months of usage, I have to complain about the touch strips. In my opinion, they are very poor in quality. Firstly, I often unintentionally touch them with my left hand, especially the ModWheel, which frequently controls the dynamics of sample libraries. I don't know why, but the touch sometimes causes a reset of the strip, resulting in the overall volume (dynamic) being reset. I only realize this after minutes of wondering why the library is suddenly silent. So, in my opinion, the major flaw of this keyboard is the presence of these useless touch strips and also unnecessary keys. As an orchestral music composer, I would instead appreciate two real hardware sliders on the left of the keyboard as a replacement for the touch strips, along with fewer useless buttons and rotary knobs. That's just my opinion. The M32 with sliders would be a great keyboard. Another minor issue is the position of the USB connector: in that position, the keyboard takes up a lot of space on a small desktop. It's a pity. Anyway, I want to thank you again for your efforts in your great reviews. Nothing personal, but for me, Native Instruments fails in both hardware devices and sample libraries. Giorgio
First, this keyboard looks really sleek and the visuals from this video is clean and just so well produced! It’s great to watch your tutorials!!! Never bores me and only excites me more about music (also your music you create for the videos) and what you do for others and to explore instruments and sounds! Keep it up! #MakeTheMusicYouLove
I went with the m32 because it’s nice and portable. I also wanted a keyboard that gave me effortless access to synth parameters without assigning controllers and such, m32 is a big winner at that! (For nks compatible synths, fortunately Arturia supports nks) I already have a large library of synths and sounds so that’s not a big deal, but nice to have.
Took your advice and went with the m32 . Solid controller with great features especially if you’re already working with native Instruments products already. Works great with ableton as well.
I really dig my Arturia Minilab Mk2 and the included Analog Lab Lite. There are times where I'm wanting more physical keys and sounds to play with. I thought about buying the Keystep before this was announced. Would you recommend I pick this up for those extra keys and the bundled software?
How I can put it together with this native instruments keyboard also together with native instruments audio interface 1 ? I will be need for this work any cables ?
Hi, thanks for this review! I'm a bit torn whether I should go for the Akai MPK mini Plus, or the Native instruments M32. Mostly I compose orchestral music with Native instrument plugins, which is why I naturally leaned towards the M32 at the beginning naturally (though sometimes I can for sure work with electronic music and sound design as well), I can also say that the Aesthetic and minimalistic elegant design of the M32 is by far the best (though the Akai does look somewhat ok still). The advantage of getting the Akai would be the additional keys and maybe also some of the additional controls (if I would use them). But I honestly think that the keys of the M32 feels nicer than the Akais (which felt a little floppy and weak). So I already have a 88 controller when composing more complex stuff, which is why I think that a smaller and portable 32/37 Controller can be a nice addition, but the question is whether I should get the M32 or the Akai. Which one would you recommend for my case? Thanks again for the nice review!
The only big downside I can see about M32 is the lack of midi-class compliance. I'd like to also use it with my ipad and iphone apps. That also provides built-in redundancy since you're not completely dependent on NI's custom drivers. At some point they'll no longer support the product and the drivers won't be updated to work with a newer OS.
Thanks for putting this review together - I wanted to see if the M32 would fit the bill for me. I keep an M-Audio Code 61 connected to my desktop, and I was looking for a 'couch keyboard' for my laptop. This looks to fit the bill perfectly!
humm I have a Keystation 61es so I could do the same using this little thing to move and get the full control and just use the 61es when I need full keys
Excellent video. I just bought one. It was quite difficult to set it up with Live 10. Just a question, I try to use it to midi control some Vienna Instruments. The knobs start from CCU 14 on page 1. Cannot find 1 to 13. Any tip? Thank you.
I would like ask you please. How I can installation native instruments audio interface 1 to software ableton live lite ? And will be everything working also with microphone ?
I have recently bought arturia minilab3 (25 keys)...what tempts me to buy this KOntakt M32 is the free KOMPLETE 14 Select that comes with this keyboard. Otherwise I do not see it as tempting as Arturia minilab3. But otherwise this doesn't look today to go for...25 or 32 keys...both are too small number of keys...though any beginner too should go for 49 keys minimum...its really not that comfortable to work with the OCtave buttons on a 25 and 32 keys keyboard. Trying to decide whether I should buy this or not. Today's price tag - 139 USD, KOMPLETE 14 Select has a price tag of 99USD...so just pay 40 dollars more and you get a 32 keys keyboard...that's how I am looking at it. Well. Thanks for your review.
Hi i want to ask about the software since it is the one that interest me to buy this keyboard. Are the softwares really come with full version & full library? Like Maschine Essentials. I heard it was same as Maschine 2.0 Software, but it comes with smaller library to browse at. Really need to know what 6100 sounds and 10GB worth is, cause for komplete kontrol software & komplete start were already free without buying the keyboard, and i already have ableton live suite. Thanks btw
The M32 will work fine with FL for accessing the Komplete Kontrol features by NI. But you won't get mixer control with it. I think you may be able to manually map those.
Great video reviews. Is it possible to let us know when the products that you are reviewing were provided by the manufacturer or if you purchased them?
Yeah sure. I'm kinda new to this, so didn't realize I should mention that earlier, but I've started doing that. The M32 was sent to me for free by Native Instruments.
I love mine, only issue I had was I ordered one originally and it was pre registered or open box that caused me a lot of issues, after receiving a replacement that was not opened it works flawlessly. I recommend ordering from a legitimate source like, Guitar center, sweetwater,.Amazon sometimes sends you open box items that are hard to detect, so be careful, I learned the hardware as my original one I had would not work with logic at all due to it being registered by another user and I spent hours and days trying to get the transcoders to work. It was painful.
I just subscribed and liked this video. Well explained, no extra talking and crystal clear information. i just purchased a used but pristine kpmplete controller. Im interested in the software you spoke of. Can you help? Thanks!
Hi! Great vid man! Can we use other plug ins (for example Nexus, Real Guitar, Heat Up, ecc) and not just those which are included with this MIDI? Best wishes!
Thanks, great review! Do you think it is worth getting if you already have a mikro mk3? I realised that a lot of the software and instruments included are quite similar
Making samples depends on your daw. But basically you record or download sample sounds onto your computer. Then you load them into a Sampler instrument in your daw (eg Simpler instrument in Ableton). Then you can play the sample on your keyboard or its pads.
Are you able to adjust the velocity on the keys? I love my M32 but only see where you can turn the velocity sensitivity on and off but no other adjustment.
just wished to know if the scale and arp can be used without the komplete kontrol software, for example on the instruments on ableton or in other plugins
Thinking about buying this because I already have the Mikro MK3. Can you connect them both and the same time to do drums with the mikro and melodies with this? Would they be connected both by USB at the same time? Im a bit confused about this. Thanks a lot! Great video as usual.
Hi, thanks for the video! Would you recommend Native Instruments M32 or AKAI MPK Mini MK3? I am a complete beginner, portability is not an issue and I already have garage band on my mac.
I'm thinking of getting one as a stocking filler this year, but mainly to get the maschine software.. although I do own k13CE so it will come in handy for that too!
hello!! thank you very much for this video. I am very interested in acquiring this controller and I would like to know if it is compatible with Logic Pro X version 10.4.6 Thank you very much for your answer and for all the information. Greetings from Argentina.
Hello - Sanjay. Is M32 and A49 build quality about the same and is the A49 basically has some extra keys everything else being equal? Can I play drum MIDI without the pads and will they be velocity sensitive. That is can I play the drum sounds softly and hardly with the pressure of the fingers on these keys? Or do I need drum pads?
5:50 I agree, if this M32 had some of the excellent Maschine (Mikro) drumpads, that would be the bomb! There's space for them on the M32's form factor if they had rearranged the knobs and buttons a bit
Any updates really appreciated. I just got M32, it's perfect, only issue is Modulation touch Strip it's a little bit laggy. Is it normal or I'm encountering a hardware failure. Pls let me know. Tnx.
I want to ask you about the difference between komplete kontrol and the machine app/software or whatever its called, I seem to find machine easier and quicker to monouver whilst the komplete kontrol is not allowing me to play any instrumnets and tells me something about "standalone"?
Komplete Kontrol is really a way to easily find and audition instruments. Its not a beatmaking or songmaking DAW. You can use them together (Komplete Kontrol as a plugin inside Maschine). But that may be redundant.
Nice once. Total newbie, so it's 100usd for the keyboard. I had to google for Monark which is 99usd... And that Reaktor is 199usd. What would be a minimum software setup, low cost or even free?
Hey Sanjay! Great videos! I had a question though, are you able to switch to different recordings on the maschine through abelton like you can on the novation midi keyboard? This is going to be what gets me to decide on one or the other so really thank you if you can help me with this answer. Thanks-nick
You really elucidated the feature set of this entrylevel portable keybed from Native Instruments with objectivity and both pros and cons. Well Done! I would be interested to see your opinion comparing the control solution that Native Instruments has which is optimized for the Komplete NKS ecosphere versus the Nektar solution for controlling VSTs such as the Nektar Panorama P4 or even the keyboardless controller the P1
Hey sanjay....can i get skme help from you on how to get started on how to work the M32 any tips or videos for me to watch to learn this awesome key board!!!
Does the action of the keys on the M32 allow for variance of how soft or loud the sounds play/record based on how hard or soft you press the keys? If not, is that ability available on the next level up of Kontrol keyboards in the A series? I think I might choose this one at the 32 keys and the smaller size if the pressure the keys are pressed alters how strong or soft the sounds play, but I don't think I would choose this one if this is not something this model is capable of. Thank you in advance for any info on this.
Yes, you can control the volume based on key press. You can do that on most mini midi keyboards these days. At least all the ones on my youtube channel
@@SanjayC That is so helpful to know, Sanjay. Thank you!! And thank you for your videos. They are very helpful. I appreciate the time and commitment you put into them.
Good video--- At least you sold one through your efforts/channel. I placed an order for one through Amazon. thanks for the info -- it's a good compliment to my NI Komplete MK2@@SanjayC
Is there a way to Transpose the keys in Semitones from the keyboard itself (perhaps program one of the buttons etc) without having to go in the daw? I'm asking as I would like to use this as an additional keyboard on stage

There's something really satisfying about playing drums with keys, producers have been using keyboards to make beats for decades. :)
I'd advice getting this and a separate device for drumming though, most integrated pads suck and I usually end up using the keys anyway
Totally agree about separate drum pads

Making samples depends on your daw. But basically you record or download sample sounds onto your computer. Then you load them into a Sampler instrument in your daw (eg Simpler instrument in Ableton). Then you can play the sample on your keyboard or its pads.
You get maschine software with the keyboard and with that software you can do that easily, record directly into maschine then use it like you want
Are you able to adjust the velocity on the keys? I love my M32 but only see where you can turn the velocity sensitivity on and off but no other adjustment.
some plugins also come with adjustable velocity curves
Hi Sanjay ! thanks for your super videos ! I have a question about the M32 : Is the cable is in USB-C or must have an adaptor? Have a good day!
just wished to know if the scale and arp can be used without the komplete kontrol software, for example on the instruments on ableton or in other plugins
and the quantize button as well. in fact, can any of the transport buttons be used without the komplete kontrol software?
Thinking about buying this because I already have the Mikro MK3. Can you connect them both and the same time to do drums with the mikro and melodies with this? Would they be connected both by USB at the same time? Im a bit confused about this. Thanks a lot! Great video as usual.
Yes, you can totally use them both together by connecting them both by USB. excellent idea
Hi, thanks for the video! Would you recommend Native Instruments M32 or AKAI MPK Mini MK3? I am a complete beginner, portability is not an issue and I already have garage band on my mac.
Thanks once again buddy.
You're welcome! 🙏
I'm thinking of getting one as a stocking filler this year, but mainly to get the maschine software.. although I do own k13CE so it will come in handy for that too!
Get a big stocking! lol!
can you map it to traktor or any other dj software seratto virtual recordbox?
hello!! thank you very much for this video. I am very interested in acquiring this controller and I would like to know if it is compatible with Logic Pro X version 10.4.6 Thank you very much for your answer and for all the information. Greetings from Argentina.
Love the small keyboard. ! Very helpful Sanjay ! 👌👍
Thanks
Can you recommend a sustain pedal that works well with this keyboard?
Thanks!
Also just subscribed, your content is awesome & extremely helpful!
Well worth the cost! Great item
Thanks
Hello - Sanjay. Is M32 and A49 build quality about the same and is the A49 basically has some extra keys everything else being equal? Can I play drum MIDI without the pads and will they be velocity sensitive. That is can I play the drum sounds softly and hardly with the pressure of the fingers on these keys? Or do I need drum pads?
This looks absolutely beautiful and rock solid !
Its pretty nice!
Can the strips be used to control Maschine performer fx?
I haven’t tried that. But I would guess they would.
I desperately need confirmation if you don’t mind.
Nicely done.
I like your little robots and other toys and animations.
Thanks :-) most of them are little memories from my childhood (and adulthood 😊)
The touch strips control effects modulation and "performance effects" in Maschine?
Can you make a video showing the ins and out of A49 and Mikro working together in Maschine software
Hello. Can I connect it through a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen to record and add to guitars/drums?
5:50 I agree, if this M32 had some of the excellent Maschine (Mikro) drumpads, that would be the bomb! There's space for them on the M32's form factor if they had rearranged the knobs and buttons a bit
what is the use of the drumpad on keyboard synths?? how will it affect my production if i dont have one??
As always great video. Thanks. For me i definitly buy this keyboard and complete it with my maschine.
Yes it’s the perfect size to pair with the Maschine Mikro actually.
@@SanjayC Im still running my Maschine Gen1. :)
@@SanjayC that's what I will be doing but GEN 1
Any updates really appreciated. I just got M32, it's perfect, only issue is Modulation touch Strip it's a little bit laggy. Is it normal or I'm encountering a hardware failure. Pls let me know. Tnx.
This or the m-audio pro oxygen mini? What can you recommend more?
I want to ask you about the difference between komplete kontrol and the machine app/software or whatever its called, I seem to find machine easier and quicker to monouver whilst the komplete kontrol is not allowing me to play any instrumnets and tells me something about "standalone"?
Komplete Kontrol is really a way to easily find and audition instruments. Its not a beatmaking or songmaking DAW. You can use them together (Komplete Kontrol as a plugin inside Maschine). But that may be redundant.
Im planning to buy a midi controller which one shoul i get ?
arturia minilab 25 or komplete kontrol m32 ?
Nice once. Total newbie, so it's 100usd for the keyboard. I had to google for Monark which is 99usd... And that Reaktor is 199usd. What would be a minimum software setup, low cost or even free?
This is an awesome review, along with all your other ones. Thank you. M32 it is.
Glad you liked it!
I like your review videos, one quick question for this M32, can I use this midi keyboard for other plugins?
It's a midi keyboard. You can use it for anything that accepts midi.
Although, it's mainly specialized for the Komplete Kontrol plugin.
Love the new keyboard Sanjay C
Yeah it’s really nice
Hey Sanjay! Great videos! I had a question though, are you able to switch to different recordings on the maschine through abelton like you can on the novation midi keyboard? This is going to be what gets me to decide on one or the other so really thank you if you can help me with this answer. Thanks-nick
On Maschine, yes you can. That's a function of the Maschine software + Maschine hardware.
Thanks! I’m going to do a Nektar review and comparison in the coming weeks.
@@SanjayC That is incredible news! I shall be looking forward to your upcoming videos as always.
Can you help me tell what piano preset and fx that you use in 1:14 ?
Oh man...I wish I could remember. Its definitely a piano sound from the Native Instruments Hybrid Keys virtual instrument.
@@SanjayC thanks man 👍
Great review 👍. How about integration with Mulab? Would it be successful?
Thanks for this good review (as usual !!). Not surprised by the quality of this keyboard. Just afraid the mini keys are... too mini :-)
If you're a pianist, you may have some issues with the key size. But you get used to it soon.
Thanks Sanjay. Where did you get yours. They don’t seem to be in stock anywhere
Hi Bob. They are not shipping yet. I got an early release from Native Instruments to test out.
Good video--- At least you sold one through your efforts/channel. I placed an order for one through Amazon. thanks for the info -- it's a good compliment to my NI Komplete MK2@@SanjayC
Thanks! :-) Hope you'll have fun with it!
Can we transpose a key???.... I didn't see a transpose button
Just wondering. Which is ur favorite now between KOMPLETE KONTROL M32 and NOVATION LAUNCHKEY MINI MK3?? Thinking to buy any one of these.
For Ableton, I would go with the Launchkey. But aside from that, the M32 is my fav
Is there a way to Transpose the keys in Semitones from the keyboard itself (perhaps program one of the buttons etc) without having to go in the daw? I'm asking as I would like to use this as an additional keyboard on stage
You can, but its software driven, so you can set it with the buttons
@@SanjayC Thanks for the reply, Appreciate it :)
