I love it... Haven't had for that long. I tried the A25 and took it back... I own the AKAI mini MKII and the Advanced 49 and this is probably the perfect little controller. it's an attractive product if you're looking for compact master keyboards with above average quality keybeds. but still, it could be so much better if they'd simply used the vacant space more efficient. why not move the encoders more to the top and place some pads and / or faders below it? why no pitch and no mod wheel when this is what probably everyone would expect for those controls? why not make the OLED twice as big when the chassis would allow it? i cant imagine that there would be no room for it inside the chassis. i guess the answer to all these questions would THE PRICE. ok NI, but then simply make it twice the price and plenty of people would still throw their dollars on you. a device like would still force me to buy a 2nd device to compensate for the missing functionality. and before i would buy a 2nd one, which defeats the whole small-footprint aspect, i'd rather buy a 49 key version, which offers all of the above... from ARTURIA !
That's why the s49 exist but unfortunately it doesn't have pads. However, it has full control over maschine and komplete kontrol and some control on logic and ableton. I wish there was s32 with pads. Perfect companion for all purposes. I have MPK mini mk3 as well and it's the perfect companion except it doesn't have control or transport.

Based on your videos, I've ended up with these models: Komplete Kontrol M32, Oxygen Pro Mini and AKAI MPK Mini MK3. I wanna use it in FL Studio and also train myself some casual music theory with it (not professionally obviously) and the concept of having a drumpad set sounds cool as hell to me as well. Which one do you think would be better for me? BTW I've never had any keyboards before. Thank you a lot!
I don’t think it’s difficult to travel with at all. Fits in my bags fine. Also, I love the screen but agree a little bigger woulda been cool. I took a lens out of some $5 Walmart reading glass and mounted it above the screen. But the screen is VERY helpful imo. I don’t have to look up at my monitor ever. I don’t ever use the strips so I have no opinion on that at all. But I love this thing so much. Insane what you get for 130 bones.
@@felipedemariscalone Outside of them both having keyboards they are different devices and more importantly, they are meant to work better with specific apps (Native Instruments and Ableton). Hello I don’t like downloading software if I don’t have to so my question is do I have to download included software, if any, to be able to use it with GarageBand? I would only be using it to play virtual instruments.
I just want to say that I've been really looking forward to buying this controller as my first one (because I'm a beginner), but after I heard about the fixed CCs, it kinda took away my optimism about buying it. I still haven't bought any midi controller and can't decide between this one (as I heard it has the best keys among all small sized midis and half octave more is a plus for me), Arturia Minilab Mk2 (really good package, but I kinda really like to have the arpegiator option) and the Novation Launchkey Mk3 (which came out recently and judging by the features it has it's the best midi especially for Ableton. Sadly, it may not come so fast to my local store because I live in Macedonia)
hey john, can u help me out. im thinking about which one i should buy, Keystation Mini 32 or M32 ? i dont care about the knobs and buttons just the keys.
I’ve heard a couple things “wrong” with this keyboard. Apparently you can’t assign MIDI CCs and also that the velocity curve is super low. I read that you need to press super hard to get a high velocity on it but still never reaches the max 127. Is this true? False?
Yeah I am also disappointed that it couldn’t fit in a standard backpack. But it does work in a weekend/overnight travel bag like you said. Secondly, for the 50+ eyes like mine, need readers along with the bifocals to read the display😂. My Arturia MiniLab mkii fits easily in a small backpack, but the keys are not as good as M32. And the M32 flows better, though less encoders, for production workflow.
My biggest gripe is that it starts at the F key. Why in the fuck would they do that? I mean at least start at the Ikki since that’s what the standard guitar is tuned to. To me this is the biggest dealbreaker. I need a keyboard that I could play bass on how so I don’t understand why it doesn’t start at either C or E or E
Thank you for this follow up video! Like you mentioned, I think these videos are very important as opinions change over time and especially after using something for a while and getting comfortable with it. In regards to the keybed, how would you say it compares to the Novation LaunchKey Mini MK3? I've got the LaunchKey and I like the functionality but the keys just feel flimsy and spongy. I know they won't be incredible on a scaled down controller but what are your thoughts been the two? The extra keys and already being engrained in the NI Ecosystem is a big draw. Also, are the keys slightly larger than on the LaunchKey? I watched your comparison video and I can't quite tell tell for sure but they look slightly larger though still smaller in general. Any help is appreciated!
@@Johnmike thanks man! You're so underrated ! Love your vids. I'm a newbie with midi and controllers , but want to change my setup for my cruise ship gig. I normally get my nord , and forget about it , but I have problems lately with travelling so I strive for minimizing my gear. Sorry for the rant , but I'd you have the time to answer and have an idea what would my best way is gonna be of great help ! Option 1- Ultimately I was looking for a do it all software where I can use the ships onboard stage piano with midi and use it with many sounds, layer, split options (pianos, brass ,organs , str.etc) with a song list on the run using my iPad or MacBook . Since I'm in a party band situation I need flexibility and speed . That software must be very advanced obviously for so many things and I didn't find anything like that yet. Option 2- use onboard stage piano as my piano , ep , but get a 2nd keyboard on top for auxilliary sounds. Preferably with a pianistic real size feel , and maybe at least 32- 37 keys so that it is actually playable , but also be able to fit it in the luggage. The only I found was irigkeys pro and roland a300pro . Do you think they will do the job ? Of course a bigger keyboard with 49-61 can be an option and even better for playing if former are not good enough ,but at least I'll have less weight to carry and flying with a cheaper keyboard will make my life easier . Thanks , and sorry for splash again , God bless brother !

Sadly, it may not come so fast to my local store because I live in Macedonia)
hey john, can u help me out. im thinking about which one i should buy, Keystation Mini 32
or M32 ? i dont care about the knobs and buttons just the keys.
M32 has the best feeling keys
@@Johnmike thank you so much !!!!!!!!
I’ve heard a couple things “wrong” with this keyboard. Apparently you can’t assign MIDI CCs and also that the velocity curve is super low. I read that you need to press super hard to get a high velocity on it but still never reaches the max 127. Is this true? False?
You can edit the midi cc in the Komplete Kontrol software...and can’t remember every having velocity issues with it personally...
Does it have transpose function?
What's the difference between maschine and mpc essentials? Thinking about which to go with.
I tried MPC essentials years ago and didn’t like it...to me Maschine always wins
Mk32 or m-audio keystation 49 MK3 which would you suggest?
Depends on if you want full-sized keys or not...can’t go wrong with either...M32 has a better software package
@@Johnmike ok thanks, i will be gettin the m32 :)
My pinky kept kiting the mod strip.... Annoying
Just got mine for $90 bucks used lol
Same
@@jesuslozoya307 where???
Guitar center, used but they work great
Hey would you recommend this or the MIDI plus x3 mini? I honestly wanted 37 Keys but in terms of keyboard feel, which is better?
This
@@Johnmike hey, but for the M32 do you know how to transpose? I feel like I can only play in the key of C hah
Can you connect this to android phone?
Yeah I am also disappointed that it couldn’t fit in a standard backpack. But it does work in a weekend/overnight travel bag like you said. Secondly, for the 50+ eyes like mine, need readers along with the bifocals to read the display😂.
My Arturia MiniLab mkii fits easily in a small backpack, but the keys are not as good as M32. And the M32 flows better, though less encoders, for production workflow.
Get you a laptop backpack from Amazon ... It will fit no problem
Do the knobs work in GarageBand and Logic Pro or does it only work for ableton lite?
It works in all of them
How is this in SO4, outside of KK as I would like to use the arp, scales and other feats too.
Works great
This keyboard is ok from the way you are describing it the issue is traveling
My biggest gripe is that it starts at the F key. Why in the fuck would they do that? I mean at least start at the Ikki since that’s what the standard guitar is tuned to. To me this is the biggest dealbreaker. I need a keyboard that I could play bass on how so I don’t understand why it doesn’t start at either C or E
or E
I watched your comparison video and I can't quite tell
tell for sure but they look slightly larger though still smaller in general.
Any help is appreciated!
This blows the launchkey out of the water in terms of keybed...it’s the best feeling keybed I’ve put my hands on
John Mike even better than Arturia keys? Wow
Great review but what's with the shakey cam
It’s actually the table and not the cam...cheap table from ikea
@@Johnmike oh... oh well how loose are the bolts
I have the mpk mini 2 and the keys feel awful, how does this feel in comparison?
10 times better!
John Mike awesome, ordered one, arriving tomorrow 😊
Thanks!
Which is better brother .
A25 or M32 ?
M32 imo
@@Johnmike" imo " means ???
@@Kumar-kl4hi in my opinion
thanks!
is it rugged enough to just be thrown in a backpack and withstand being carried around? Thanks
Yup...if your backpack is big enough...whenever I travel I take this with me normally in my carry-on
hi! will an m32 or a25 work at all on a macos 10.11 el capitan?
Both will...
Option 1-
Ultimately I was looking for a do it all software where I can use the ships onboard stage piano with midi and use it with many sounds, layer, split options (pianos, brass ,organs , str.etc) with a song list on the run using my iPad or MacBook . Since I'm in a party band situation I need flexibility and speed . That software must be very advanced obviously for so many things and I didn't find anything like that yet.
Option 2-
use onboard stage piano as my piano , ep , but get a 2nd keyboard on top for auxilliary sounds.
Which would you recommend this one or the a49?
Depends on your budget...I like and use them both..
