Got to be Activ 8 for me, the original "hoover" sound was from the Roland Alpha Juno-2, Alex Ball has a great video about that for any synth heads on here.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mark archer last year at a small local gig. He spent over an hour chatting and drinking with me and my Mrs, so much so he was late for his set!😅 What a great guy, down to earth and friendly 😊👍 First 12”I bought bitd is activ8 but the stand out track by altern8 for me is frequency👌🏻
Saw altern 8 live at a service station off M62 (after Hacienda)...A big lorry rocked up! back shutters went down Altern 8 played a short live set in the back of a lorry with hazmat suits keybourds lights gasmasks the lot, to about 250 ravers. One of the funniest haziest craziest moments of 88-89 rave scene for me. I think the Police were quite bemused.
Amazing!!! I bet that was surreal to watch. We had a lot of those service station raves also around Belfast at the same time, was a few crazy ones. Super times!!
My favorite hoover track is probably Omen by Joey Beltram..but there are so many other great ones also, big fan of Altern8 also. Had a Roland Juno 1 (maybe 2?!) for a period which has that hoover preset sound.
Yes it is an Roland Alpha Juno 1 or 2 or the Mks 50 rack version. What the patch . Straight out the juno it sounds different so it's best to resample and process.
It was a preset sound created by Eric Persing who was the sound designer for Roland at the time . The patch is called , " What the" on the alpha junos/mks 50. I think the pitch modulation of the sound as it rises gave it the nickname a hoover/ vacuum cleaner type sound. A bit like how the liquid sounding filter of a tb303 being called Acid
Mark archer God tier...
Right at the very top of the pile 😊👌
Top one. Nice one. Get sorted.
The very one!! Great track
Stomp all night and get sore feet....

It was a great sound, used by so many at that time.
Always liked 8's revenge from their album, belter of a track 👌
Superb 👌
Altern 8 - Activ 8 (Come With Me) (Hardcore Holocaust Mix).
Pure Rave Classic
When I say I like the 'hoovers' I always wonder if people/djs/producers know what I am talking about
Depends on the person in question and their age etc. Most these days probably wouldn’t
iam a fellow detuned saw pitch bent envlope iam a hoover freak doc scott surgery my fav hoover alltime
Doc Scott 🤘🤯 A hero also, his stuff was HUGE!!
Roland alpha juno.
Was it actually the Juno that made that sound?
Yes it is an Roland Alpha Juno 1 or 2 or the Mks 50 rack version.
What the patch .

Watch your bass bins mate I'm telling ya!
Iconic piece of music for the rave generation ❤️
@@BelfastUnderground can't beat that old dirty detroit style. Industrial techno at its best 👌
Look up gypsy woman, rave yard mix & they’ve sampled that. Great wee tune I’m telling ya 😇
@rabmccudden683 Great tune also 😊❤️
But what exactly *is* a hoover, and why is it called that?
It’s a sound created by a keyboard, the term hoover is just a nickname given to that particular style of sound.
@@BelfastUnderground Thanks. Was there a story behind the name, or just random?
It was a preset sound created by Eric Persing who was the sound designer for Roland at the time . The patch is called , " What the" on the alpha junos/mks 50.

Legend, great reply, many thanks 🙏
i had the album, and somehow misplaced it.
Stolen at a house party perhaps 🤔
