Have one coming in a couple weeks from Japan. This by far is the best review. And I, of course, watched a lot. Demonstrated a real experience. Thank you!
@@inkdependence It arrived and it is a stunning experience! Broad nib so wet and smooth. The pen itself disappears with its perfect weight, balance, girth. Love it. 1990 in the cherrywood box all paperwork,...nib change invoice fro Parker, letter from original owner, Business card from where bought,...but who cares. I'm using this baby!
Shoot... I was talking a Duofold I bought too. Not the Pilot. Im an idiot...😅. Still waiting for 823, This hobby has got me buying so many pens! anyway, thanks again.
I just got one of these a couple of weeks ago. It's broader than I thought it would be (based on someone else's review), and I don't have any other extra-broad nibs to compare it to. But I think I'm glad I have it. Time will tell.
Oh boy! I have two Pilot 823s, medium and fine, and now that the demonstrator model is available, I will have to start saving for one of those...with a sig nib, of course! Thanks for the review!
Thank you Mike. This was super helpful. (And thank you Pilot US for lending these to Mike. Would love to see you do more demo's and ink reviews for the entire Pilot line.)
Nothing wrong with Noses' advice at all! 😸Kitty approved. I am confused with all these specialty nibs coming out Journaler, Signature, Naginata, O my Geez. One thing I don't like to write with is a Stub, I do like Broad nibs though and line variation.
I LOVE Jaclynn! She's so amazing to work with. I bought a Pilot Custom 823 with the Signature nib because she knew exactly what to hand to me when I was at the SF pen show to make me fall in love with yet another Pilot pen.
Thanks Mike! And Mr. Nose... One day when I finally go for that 823, it'll have the Signature nib. The only trouble is that my wish list is way longer than my bank account, so it all gets jammed up.
It's a totally different sort of thing than the Zoom. The Zoom is an odd grind, and a complicated set of geometries. I don't like the way they feel, really. The Signature isn't meant to do all of the things that the Zoom is. It's just meant to be very smooth, expressive, and comfortable.
There is a body color called “smoke” that is very dark, and I think you may be able to get a black 743 with these nibs, but they don’t make a black 823 or a black nib.
Just an observation, but I think calling the 823 nib bouncy is misleading. I have one in fine and under normal - i.e. properly executed - writing, it is a nail.
I wouldn't call it "flex" by any means, but it does have a bit of bounce in the larger sizes. My fine nib is more of a nail than my medium, for example.
Maybe so. None of them are nails, but I do use a very light hand so I don't always notice bouncy nibs the same way others do. They're not the sort of nib that you should look to for flex-writing, though, that's for sure.
If you're going to open up a video asking for funding, the absolute least you could do is illuminate the pens so they're not all the same shade of black for most the video. Bizarre.
Thank you, I have heard of the signature nib, but never quite "got" it. Meow!
Glad to help!

Thanks very much! I really like this pen, and it was nice getting to use the whole set for a while. I just got mine in the mail the other day. :-D

@@lawrencelizewski9625 I was wondering. 😅

Thanks so much for this nib review. I love PILOT nibs! Looking forward to seeing you in person this weekend!
Hi Mike- Thank you for this nib-comparison video. It was very helpful! Best regards!

I got mine after DC, and it's great. The blue ink I put in it (Kobe Sake something) just awesome in this nib.
Thank you Mike. This was super helpful. (And thank you Pilot US for lending these to Mike. Would love to see you do more demo's and ink reviews for the entire Pilot line.)
You're welcome. I do have some plans for more things like this in the future, so stay subscribed!

Oddly, I love Stubs…and extra fine!
I love when Nose co-hosts. He has excellent opinions. This Signature nib looks awesome and I appreciate the kitty stamp of approval. 🤘🏼😻
😺

Picked up one from the DC pen show yesterday. It's fantastic. Added to my collection of pilot custom 823s.
I told them that they need to make one more color of pen so that I don't have to buy two the same color with different nibs. 😅
@@inkdependence that is exactly what I have. 3 in amber, 1 smoke, 2 clear. If they would do a clear pink or turquoise...
Looking forward to the next live. I’ve missed it this week 😊
Great video thanks Mike
You bet!
Thanks Mike! And Mr. Nose...

I totally hear that.
Great video thanks
Reminds me of the Montblanc Broad nib. I am not into broads, but if I were . . .
I heard Nose balk at the price. Smart critter.
I love the 823! I have a medium and a broad nib. The broad is great for light colored inks.
That's the one nib I don't have in my personal collection just yet. I'm sure I will.
Sorry I missed you at the DC Pen Show-just discovered you because I just got the Pilot Signature 823. Great review!!
Thanks! I just got mine, too. :-D
Sweet kitty☺
He was the absolute best.
good info, thanks.
You're welcome!
Thanks for the video, I would be curious to know how this stacks up against the Sailor Zoom nib 🤔

@@inkdependence That sounds like exactly what I need in my life 🏆
Do they do a black version?
There is a body color called “smoke” that is very dark, and I think you may be able to get a black 743 with these nibs, but they don’t make a black 823 or a black nib.
Cursive writers, rejoice!
Facts. I'm sure it's cool for you loopy writers. Also great for my weird combination of character forms. 😅

I wouldn't call it "flex" by any means, but it does have a bit of bounce in the larger sizes. My fine nib is more of a nail than my medium, for example.
@@inkdependence Maybe that's it. I've only used a fine, perhaps people are referring to the M and B sizes.
Maybe so. None of them are nails, but I do use a very light hand so I don't always notice bouncy nibs the same way others do. They're not the sort of nib that you should look to for flex-writing, though, that's for sure.
$366.50
Hmm. I paid $336 for it at Atlas without a discount.

One is dark brown, another is very dark grey. The star of the show is the nib, though, so that's what was being showcased in this video. 🤷
