    Great Skydio footage! Love how that thing just avoids the polls and get shots you really can't get without a pro-level race quad pilot behind the sticks. I really like the Apollo scooters. I would rather have it than the Turbowheel or Zero scooters and I like those scooters as well. It is just a bit better all around and has a 2 year warranty covered by a North American company. It is very strange scooting around San Francisco these days. My wife and daughter went kick scooting around yesterday to get a little break from our indoor quarantine. It was easy to keep safe social distancing with so few people out. It breaks my heart to think about all the people suffering around the world. It is good to take a break from time to time and just have some fun and get some sun and fresh air.

    • @AlienRides
      @AlienRides  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, the Skydio is amazing for sure, but can't beat pro level FPV piloting yet. We're lucky to be able to go outdoors for fresh air, and I hope we can continue riding electric vehicles for both our physical and mental health. I'm hoping to get a ride later today.

    Basically this is a Zero 9 scooter. I placed an order for a Zero 9 from Rev Rides, then cancelled it and just ordered this one from Apollo. Exact same scooter, but about $200 cheaper, longer warranty and they’ve got some promos going for free accessories. Can’t wait to get it!

    • @AlienRides

      BTW something I learnt while using my Appollo.. As the battery depletes also does the peak voltage. You care about that as your max power output will go down. The City has a 600W unit which is plenty so this is not really an issue but I would keep this in mind. AFAIK this applies to all scooters.

    I really enjoy your videos, and have watched several of them. My favorite is the hill climb on California Street, but I wish you were able to tell us more info about California Street, like how steep is each section, and the distance of each section. Like section 1 is 200 feet with a 10% incline, section 2 is 130 feet with a 20% incline. It would also be nice to know how much you weigh with your gear on. If you could provide this information it would be more helpful to understand the scooter's ability for your viewers who are researching to make a purchase.

    Yes, at intersections where cars may be turning, you "take the lane" and move into traffic, but otherwise, I'll use the bike lanes at the side where slower moving traffic should be. An e-scooter, should move on the roads the same way a bicycle does.

    • @AlienRides
      @AlienRides  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Apollo Pro also looks really good, and should be similar, or better to the Zero 10X. 2 years of warranty is definitely top notch right now, only a few other companies offer that, and most are 6 months like you said.

    • @okdok3742
      @okdok3742 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AlienRides the biggest upgrade i know of that the apollo pro will have over the 10x is the forged aluminium body. i think its lighter and more sturdy as a result and way less prone to breaking. there must be a few other ones but thats the only big one that i know of.

    Something that’s never mentioned in any review that I found the hard way. I really loved my Apollo city scooter until I got a flat tire. First I tried to buy replacement from Apollo but decided against it when I saw that it was going to cost me $50 for two inner tubes ($20 for shipping! Really!). I went shopping for tires elsewhere and found that they use a weird rim size (50-134) which is not the standard size rim that most manufacturers use for 8.5” x 2” tires. So you can’t use the 8.5”x 2” tires that are widely available for most scooters like the M365. I found only one seller on Amazon that sells the right size tires for this scooter, but they’re poor quality. And if you want to install solid tires on it, you will not find solid tires that fit 50-134 rims.

    Can you do a comparison/side by side video between this and the Zero 9? Or is it literally just the same except for the branding, Dynavolt batteries and the slightly more powerful motor (500w on Z-9 vs 600w on Apollo City)? Got myself a City on the way as Singapore quality control isn't exactly the greatest, and I liked the Zero models but didn't want one til the quality control could be managed locally so the scooter i got could be actually reliable and serviceable. Apollo seemed to bring a locally quality controlled Zero 9 to the market and I'm glad to support a local company as I'm Canadian. Just wonder if there are any major differences between the two scooters other than the ones I mentioned. Hope to hear back from you. Thanks! :)

    7:25, hey man, you should check out Grin Techs video (Justin) on motor efficiencies. This will help you actually use hub motors more appropriately for hill climbing ;)
    If you want the tl;dr though, adjust your throttle, so that you’re only telling the scooter to go as fast as is can with wide open throttle.
    Eg, at full throttle, you’re only getting 19km/h, so adjust your throttle so that it’s only trying to spin the motor at 19km/h and it will severely reduce the amount of waste heat you’re dumping into the motor and controller, you’ll also save a bit of juice too ;)
    I hope this makes a big impact on your throttle useage on all scooters, I know it’s less tempting to just wot on a more powerful scooter like the Rion, which is exactly why you will see this issue less on more powerful scooters :)
    Climbing power will also increase because you’re not just heating everything up :)

    I decided to submitting here the review about my very bad experience with Customer Service and my Apollo City because the Apollo website is blocking my negative review.
    On November 17 (and one day before) I sent my negative review regarding my contacts with Customer Service and the defective scooter. I received confirmation of submitting a review but my post is not visible on the apollo website (I have the screenshots of my review and confirmation of submitting).
    I got my scooter on July 29th (order #11111).
    I started using the scooter with a factory fully charged battery (100%) but after riding 14 km (8.7 miles) the battery level showed lower than 20% (1 green bar). Then I charged the battery until 100% but after 6 km (3.7 miles) of riding the battery level showed less than half of charge (40%, two green bars). I sent the pictures in my previously email. I reported this problem on August 3th to Customer Service and I sent pictures of the display.
    I received the answer a few days later. They explained to me that the P15 should be 48.
    A few days later I rode from my home to the post office. The distance is 1.6 km (1 mile). The battery display was showing 2 green bars of battery charge when I started my way. Halfway, the scooter started to slow down suddenly. It was very dangerous because there were cars behind me and they had to stop suddenly and the drivers started to honk. The battery display all time showed 1 green bar and "E 00" until I started recharging the battery.
    I reported again the problem to Customer Service attaching pictures of the display. I again had to wait a few days for an answer. When I got the answer, they explained that P15 should be...39. They asked me to send more pictures and wait to more explanations and instructions.
    I rode at the time 93 km (57.7 miles) and I had to charge the battery 7 times because the level of the battery showed lower than 20% (1 green bar with letter L).
    The description of the scooter says: "the Apollo City offers 28 miles (45 KM) of range when in eco mode. Even at full speed in more realistic conditions, the City boasts a range of 22 miles (35 KM)". It means that I should charge the battery so far only once or maximum twice (as I mentioned I received scooter with fully charge battery and I should ride 35-45 km without charging the battery but I had to charge the battery after 14 km when I started to used it).
    On the end of the August, I needed to change the inner tube and I noticed one of the two spare inner tubes came already with the factory defect. I contacted Customer Service attaching pictures of the damaging of the tube. The answer I received was: "We'll be happy to send you replacement parts under our Apollo Protection Plan. This Protection Plan allows you to get up to two replacement inner tubes or tires (or 1 of each) per month for free, and we only ask that you pay the shipping fee of $20."
    The tube came with the factory defect so I don't understand why I have to pay for shipping. Somebody didn't check before put them to the box. Why I should pay for someone's mistake? It is unfair.
    The price for 2 new inner tubes on eBay is $12.61 (free shipping and free return) so how is Apollo Protection Plan if the customers Apollo's have to pay $20 for shipping?
    Every time when I plugged in the charger to the power the light on the charger was red. Then I was connecting the charger to the battery and I had to wait about 12 hours until the color of the light on the charger changed from red to green. The charger all the time was very hot during the charging the battery.
    Now, since about three weeks the color of the light on the charger is green when I'm plugging it in to the power. The color is changing to the red when the charger is connecting to the battery and then the color is changing to the green when the battery is fully charged but I still have to wait about 12 hours until the battery is fully charged. The charger is warm (it was very hot before) during charging.
    I contacted again Customer Service and I asked why the color on the charger was red during plug it to the power, on the beginning when I started to use it, and now the color is green. They explained to me that the color on the charger should be green when the charger is plug in to the power but they didn't explain why the color on the charger was red for many months from the very beginning when I started using it. They asked me to "send a video that clearly demonstrates the issue with the charger? We will then show the video to our tech team to confirm if it's defective." How I can make and send them "a video that clearly demonstrates the issue with the charger" if the color on the charger is green now...? I have no idea why the color on the charger was red before and now the color changed "spontaneously" to the green.
    I rode so far 319 km (198 miles) and I had to charge the battery many many times.
    I feel very uncomfortable and unsafe using the scooter because I don't know when scooter again will start to slow down suddenly during the ride. I have to control the charging level of the battery all the time.
    I have to charge the battery every 15-16 km (9-10 miles). Last night I charged the battery form 8.30 pm to 11 am (14 hours, 30 min) and the color on the charger was still red.
    I live in New York, very close to an authorized repair shop but Apollo never offered me to take and check out my scooter there.

    Hi & nice review ... Random question for you about this scooter ... it uses the same rear brake mechanism that the Emove Touring uses ( I own one of these ) ... I was wondering if you ever noticed the rear brake line jumping out of the feeder line when going over a lot of bumps or riding off curbs? And if so what did u do to fix it ? Im having this issue atm with the Touring & as u can guess, I dont feel that safe on it, which is a shame as its such a good ride :(

    L9 vs Apollo city? which has better suspension and more torque? I don't ride very fast but like quick pick up and go up hills and smooth ride, also short commute, which is best under $1200?

    • @AlienRides
      @AlienRides  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Suspension and range wise I think the L9 is the winner there, but weight, portability, and speed the city wins. Both are really good scooters, I guess think about when you can get it, the L9 has been a bit delayed and unclear when people will get it.

    Another awesome video review! Ok so I’m down to the Apollo City and the Zero 9 now! Scraped the idea of the L9. The Apollo and Zero 9 seem almost identical yet Apollo is cheaper and better warranty. Is there something I’m missing that the Zero 9 offers that makes it better than the City? So close to buying one of these. Decisions decisions!

      MegaBugsy22 well better design not sure I agree. I see the same design, but different colour scheme and logo. . 2 year warranty I can agree with. But that said. It really depends on the customer service you get with that. I am lucky enough to be close to a Zero scooter main dealer which have a work shop. That will do anything on the spot. 👍 good luck with your buy . Either one is great option.

    • @AlienRides
      @AlienRides  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s fair, I think it could primarily be aesthetic differences. I do like how this company stands by its product, offering a 2 year warranty though.

    • @ApolloScooters
      @ApolloScooters 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      We thought Zero was a fantastic foundation, but being a Singaporean brand, the quality standards were made for and controlled by the Asian markets. In Canada and the US, customers expect better QC, support and warranty. With that in mind we worked directly with the factory behind Zero, to incorporate a 143 point checklist into their QC process ensuring only units that passed rigorous testing would be shipped to us. We also incorporated a number of upgrades we saw as absolutely necessary - from big ones like the Dynavolt-powered batteries, to small ones like using plastic coil instead of cloth to protect the external wires. At the end of the day, you will have to choose between an Apollo and a Zero. The question will come down to which company can stand behind their product for longer and why, and the answer to that question will always be us as no other scooter brand offers 24 months of warranty. Just some backstory as to why we decided to bring these scooters to market in the first place :)
