      Elfsong all the way. Why? It's so compact and orderly. I don't have to wander around to find anyone or the Chest or the Mirror or whatever. Everything's RIGHT THERE and easily accessible. Also, you can buy food at night from the Dumb Waiter! Not that you'd need to since you'll probably have thousands of food by that point, but it's nice that you can!

    My favorite surface campsite is the first Wilderness camp because it feels like “home” at the start of our adventure. This gives a feeling of semi-security because everyone is close together as they seek safety after being thrust together yet far enough apart to be away from anyone else since we might not quite trust each other yet. The camp itself is centralized for easy congregation but with some isolated areas (such as the ruins with mirror and the beach area) for giving individuals a time to step away from the group. A bonus is the water which is easily accessible for bathing after often bloody battles.
    My favorite non-surface campsite is the Underdark because I love the mushrooms and the overall high fantasy vibe.
    The only thing I don’t like about the campsites in general is that Tav doesn’t get a space to personalize like the companions.
    I totally missed some of the campsites you mentioned, such as the Blighted Village, the Spider Lair, and the Owlbear Cave! I’ll have to be sure to visit those camps during my next play-through.
    I appreciate how detailed your video is!

    • @Zaxares
      @Zaxares 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You can also get the Owlbear Cave campsite if you rest inside that little cave near Waukeen's Rest where you save the Zhents from the Gnolls, I believe. It seems to be tied to the current terrain you're in.
      And yeah, I think the Wilderness River Camp in Act 1 probably wins out by sheer nostalgia: it's the very first one you have (unless you solo rest on the Beach immediately after the Nautiloid Crash), and the Epilogue also goes back there. It is, in many ways, "where it all began". :)
      For sheer visual pleasure though, I think the Rosymorn Monastery Overlook campsite is the prettiest of all. Has a very "scenic camp out in the mountains" feel to it.
      The Elfsong "camp" gets a mention for being the most comfy-looking out of all the camps, but I kind of hate it how there are no private rooms. (Partly because I'd like some privacy with Shadowheart, partly because I remember being able to choose different qualities of rooms back in BG1/2 and it would have been nice to see that sort of thing reflected in BG3. Instead we're all sleeping on these weird-ass bed-couch things. :P

      @@Zaxares Oh, thanks for the info on another location to get the Owlbear Cave campsite. I'll be sure to rest at one of those locations during my next play-through.
      Though I do like the Wilderness River Camp for the reasons we mentioned, I agree with you (and the video) that the Rosymorn Campsite is pretty and scenic. I just love the lighting and scenery in the whole Rosymorn area!
      I agree with you regarding Elfsong. Like you, I don't like how the bed-couches are just kind of lined up with no private rooms. I also don't like how the areas with the bed-things aren't personalized like the tents in camp (which are distinct for each companion reflecting their background/interests).

    My pet peeve with camps is when they’re so big that the companions are way too far apart. Because then, when I want to talk to everyone before going to bed, I spend half my time just walking from one person to the next or even having to find them first because they’re behind a random door for some reason. I have this problem especially with the act 3 camps (harbor and Wyrm’s lookout specifically)
    Also kind of breaks the immersion for me because by act 3 we’re all close friends, so why would we not put our tents a little closer

The scenery and lighting at that camp are gorgeous. One correction, though - I'm pretty sure that it's supposed to be sunrise rather than sunset. Elfsong Tavern gets tons of bonus points for having the best song in the game then loses half of them for having the least inspired companion bed setups. All the companions standing side by side next to their minimally decorated beds just looks goofy imo.
    Outside Baldur's Gate Campsite on the other hand has great companion bed setups that look realistic and interesting but you have to run a marathon every time you want to check in with everyone, at least at the tavern that's easy.

I just really like the luxury of actually having beds, couches and (presumably) a shower. I like it whenever the team takes advantage of an abandoned building to spend the night. It feels pretty immersive and it gives me, and by extension my PC, a sense of safety to have solid walls and a roof around us, even if they're not in the best condition. Also camping in basements/caves feels cozy, for some reason. Just trying to protect ourselves from the elements and any vicious wildlife or foe that may attack us while we sleep.

    I rate camps on proximity and sight lines. Getting Jaheira to cast Heroes’ Feast on everyone is such a drag bc either Lae’zel or Shadowheart will be missed due to the partitions in the Elfsong Tavern camp. Same with getting my hireling to case Longstrider on everyone and Mage Armour and Darkvision on Gale (not wasting those spell slots lol) in the more sprawling camps.

    My favorite campsite is Wyrm's Lookout because I found a little ledge overlooking the outskirts of Baldur's Gate just beyond, and when I stood there the song "I want to live" started to play! I do despise the Elfsong Tavern room and will NEVER again book it in a playthrough, but only because I can not for the life of me hear the „Song of Balduran“ one more time. I actually had to turn the sound down when going to camp in Act 3 after renting the Elfsong Tavern Room.
    I am with you on the very first camp and also the Underdark camp. I love these two.

  • @Xenolithial
    @Xenolithial 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The first campsite also has a hidden song that triggers on the rock behind Astarion's tent (the same track that triggers at wyrm's crossing).
    As for the best sites.. Idk how much sense it makes to set up at the docks, but its one of my favorite camps in the entire game.
    It's especially beautiful at night, and the moon makes a lovely backdrop if you're willing to shuffle the companions where you want them.
    I also prefer the spacing in the larger campsites. I absolutely hate the tarvern camp. It's dark and claustrophobic. The companions all stand there having staring contests all bloody day, and you miss out on most of their idle animations as well.
    And the worst part is you can't check out anytime you like and you can never leave
    Wyrm's.crossing has too much climbing and vioence for the one night you're there.
    Outside of that - agree that the camp down by the river, the mountain pass, and the underdark are all great. Like them all for different reasons.

    I actually love 14 more than 3. I haven't rented out the Elfsong ever since my first playthrough.
    The Elfsong feels so artifical and dead with the same song on repeat. The companions lost all the eccentricity and personality of their individual tent spaces, and they all just stand there, cramped together before their generic beds like drones.
    The port feels like there is room to breathe. The environment is alive and moving with ambient sounds. The companions have their own things and space. It makes the backdrop to cutscenes look better, and it matches the rugged lifestyle we've been living in so far.
    The stifling atmosphere of the Elfsong tavern made me longrest quickly and leave, but I can linger and enjoy the breeze at the port, observing my companions' idling movements. I feel less alone and isolated (even though they have less camp cutscenes and unique dialogue interactions).

    I like to argue that the whispering depths cave is the best for farming whole camp approval…if a hireling dies and you revive them via withers, you can get the rare 6 companion approval cause everyone is so close to each other. Basically u go there if you have an action that will garner approval for multiple companions

    Quick correction on the blighted village:
    I dont think it was the goblins who blighted it. Pretty sure Moonbrook was destryoed and "blighted" during the war between the Harpers/Druids and Ketheric.

      @PanEtRosa 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      nah, 'cause Shadowheart grew up there. you can find a childhood drawing of her family in the former postmaster's office/house, and a stash of her childhood things outside. the village was blighted by the Thayan necromancer who was responsible for a lot of disappearances, and who was likely operating there early in the 40 years between Viconia abducting SH, and the events of the game.

    Can't say I have a favourite yet. I only just found out I could camp in the basements of the blighted village lol.
    But those are my Dark Urges favourite now.
    I camped there after sneaking into the well area, sneaked to the amethyst gem, but got caught by the smaller spider on the way back.
    Then....the bard Alfira turned up....(and Dark Urges know what happened after lmao)
    Since then, I always camp ether there, or in the druid cave area (the one you have to pass thru when freeing Sazza) so i dont have that massive stain on my main camp floor all the time.
    Good way to avoid it on console till they get curated mods.

    You did an awesome job with the detail and effort for this video. I hope it really helps your channel grow. The only disagreement is the Elfsong Tavern campsite because the song that loops over it is annoying. Why? Because it mentions the name of the game you are playing in the lyrics. How many musical bands mention their own name in their most popular songs? How many successful movies mention the title of the movie in their soundtrack? It is meta, but it is also cheesy and reminds me constantly that I'm playing a video game. The only thing worse would be to add the 3 to the Baldur's Gate lyrics in the song. lol

      I got so sick of Elfsong during my first play through because of the song, I can't stand it. I don't mind the song, but the fact that it has lyrics and loops makes its incredibly noticeable and hard to ignore. I had to mute my game every time I went to long rest because I couldn't keep listening to it.

      I was initially confused by it, but the Shattered Sanctum campsite in the goblin camp is infact the same one you get when you rest at the Overgrown Chapel. So there is a chance most people meet the Shattered Sanctum campsite in the goblin camp first if they didnt rest at the Overgrown Chapel, but they are still the same

    I have never came across mountain pass campsite... You also missed the main city campsite (outside location, not a tavern), but I doubt you would rate it high.
    I prefer campsites that we experience the longest and those that have simple structure. How often I wanted to go to sleep and game asked me that some of the companions want to talk. You look around and... nothing. You have to chase down who and where is the person located. Or I just want to access the main storage and for a few minutes, can't find it... I need it next to the place I spawn when entering camp, not so place isolated, because then it's tedious to access it.

    The last light campsite at nr 8 is one of my least favourite just because how long I have to wait for my Tav to travel between the different companions. It is so long and stretched out, it makes traversing super annoying.

    Bro the Elfsong is the absolute worst campsite. Awful layout and atmosphere. It's this bland empty room with zero life in it. Your companions just creepily stand lined up on the sides of the room. At least the other campsites arranged the companions a bit more naturally. Absolute wasted potential... What a shame.
