This episode has always been so legendary in Smallville's history. Such a stroke of genius having Chris Reeve guest star as Dr. Virgil Swann to reveal to Clark his origin and heritage. Always loved the moment of him reading the message and the inflection in his voice as he says: "This is Kal-El of Krypton, our infant son, our last hope, please protect him and deliver him from evil" So powerful. Also the way Clark touches the screen at the names Kal-El and Krypton and it flickers, very moving. The John Williams Superman theme cues are a lovely touch as well. Finally, the words of wisdom Dr. Swann imparts to Clark are beautiful too. Chris giving his blessing both to Tom and the Smallville series as a whole was a True honor, and to me helped bolster the iconicness of the series. Both Tom and Chris remain my all time favorite two Superman. Both have amazing similar qualities to them, from the way theycarry themselves, their humbleness, integrity, drive, strength, presence and compassion. Can't wait for the Talkville podcast review episode of this in a few days with Michael and Tom. Will be such a wonderful and fun one.😀❤❤

There were so many Superman actors that ended up on Smallville. Christopher Reeve (Superman), Margot Kidder (Lois Lane), Dean Cain (Superman), Teri Hatcher (Lois Lane), Terrence Stamp (General Zod), Annette O'Toole (Lana Lang), Helen Slater (Supergirl), Mark McClure (Jimmy Olsen).

I know this is not canon, however, I like to think that Doctor Swann is Superman from an alternate dimension, who fought his greatest foe, Darkseid or someone as powerful, and he saved the world, but became crippled, and ended up in an alternate dimension taking on the Doctor Swann name as his new cover.

I was really glad Christopher Reeves got to be in this series as a Nod to the Fans & a bit of a homage to his time as Superman in the movies I like Henry Cavill’s Superman & Tom Wellings’ Clark Kent & I used to like watching Dean Cain & Terry Hatchets’ Lois n Clark The New Adventures of Superman even Brandon Routh’s Kingdom Come Superman in the CW & now I don’t mind Tyler’s look as Superman with the New improved costume. But Christopher Reeves’ Superman will always be my Fav!! His is The Big Blue BoyScout!!

For anyone curious who's also stumbled upon this years later, the designers loved hiding little easter eggs in Kryptonian, but this message actually says what they say it does, repeatedly.

If Christopher Reeves is still alive and is well to this day, he could've do some roles on DCEU movies & tv series.
If he was still alive, I bet he would have made an appearance of some sort in the DCEU. Had he not been paralyzed, he probably would have come back as Superman in the Flash movie, or Flashpoint (or whatever its going to be called), alongside Michael Keatons Batman.
Sadly, that will never, ever happen.
I grew up watching this show. The character interactions and dialogue are so remarkable. Smallville truly was one of a kind.
I like how Clark tries to contain his excitement at the thought of his parents loving him and wanting to protect him and figuring out that map was for Krypton so he could possibly reconnect with it. It's sad that he hits a dead end.
This is where the show peaked.

I remember as a 6 year old kid my father used to take me to the movie theatre to watch Christopher Reeves Superman I - IV before pick my Mom from work. until I grew up watching Smallville Is making my childhood memories comeback beautiful 👍👍

Cardiac arrest brought on by a bad reaction to an antibiotic he'd been given for a pressure ulcer that had gone septic, according to Wikipedia. He lapsed into a coma and was gone not long after.
Remember after this season I Always love ld after every episode Christopher Reeves and his wife always talked about the Christopher Reeve Foundation if you donated $10 they gave you Superman dog tags

This scene is great, except "war, famine, disease" would not destroy a planet. Even a nuclear war is unlikely to destroy the Earth. Kill everyone on it? Maybe. Famine and disease, though? Not a chance. That's just a weird set of guesses for why a planet should be there but isn't. My first guess would have been a meteor or comet hitting the planet, not "oh maybe the people on that planet got sick or didn't have enough to eat, and so the planet exploded."
I'm being mean. It's a great scene, having Christopher Reeves come back was a treat. And with the Superman theme too!
