Hydrangeas are just a win win for months. The blooms are so long lasting and even add winter interest.
One of my newest favourite is called Candybelle bubblegum hydrangea. It’s a smooth and not blooms a bubblegum pink and then turns creamy and then green. I have it planted beside my ruby hydrangea and I wish I had taken a pic of the two together because the colour contrast looked so pretty.

I brought a Hass Hallo from American Meadows online last fall. It was tiny but it made it through winter. It grew well this spring and had blooms on it and we got hale that just flattened it but it came back it’s about 3 ft tall and full of blooms. I believe it’s going to be a winner. Love it.

Within the past year between watching your Hydrangea Room and those throughout your yard plus another TH-camr I’m hooked. Slowly adding more to our gardens. My favorite right now is the Eclipse Hydrangea. Looked high and low for it in our area, with no luck. But a close friend found them in MD and was sweet enough to deliver to me. Up to 20 different Hydrangeas with different bloom times and colors.
Thank you for the inspiration, your choices I really trust since you’re about an hour plus west of us. 🌻🌻🌻

I finally caved and bought one- a Nikko Blue for $7.84 from Walmart; I was not a fan of hydrangeas (I think because everyone had them here in my neighborhood) but I saw a video of hers showing how she decorated her evergreen 🌲 tree with dried hydrangea blooms for Christmas decor and I was intrigued and wanted to do the same. Although, not sure if it Nikko Blue blooms will still look pretty dried vs what she had that was more pink/red.

I’m really not a big fan of Hydrangeas either because all you hear is Hydrangea this and Hydrangea that and EVERYONE has them. I do have a few but I’m NOT a Hydrangea collector for sure. And I don’t think that I ever will be. Hostas a different story. 💐💚🙃

    • @MariMari-vq8hl

@@judymckerrow6720 lol 😆 I get you! Funny thing is I was always wanting a snowball viburnum (I know, the irony is not lost on me 😂) vs the “beloved” hydrangeas and they had a deeply discounted one at Lowe’s but I decided to pass as they will get very large and I may be moving to a zone 9 🔥 before I can enjoy 😭
I have some hostas - a few varieties as well I bought on discount, didn’t think I’d like them but it was gratifying seeing them bloom so big after purchasing them at $8 a piece and they looked “pathetic”

Our top choice for oakleaf is *definitely* snowflake - but if you don’t have the space we are really liking Snowcicle which is sited in our new ‘woodland’ garden space in the breaks of the canopy. But if you are looking for one for bee forage - go with Alice … bigger but really lovely

Hi Danielle, my Gatsby star Oakleaf hydrangea has only exploded this year, after four years of being in probably 60% shade under a huge basswood tree that got pruned up about two years ago. So I think more sunlight helped. I just bought the Gatsby gal Oakleaf hydrangea. I planted it nearby . I absolutely love my Tuff stuff mountain hydrangea and will probably get another one.🥰🌸🇨🇦

Your videos are informative and inspirational. I have a hydrangea problem I'm hoping someone can help me with. It was an overachiever this year producing huge blooms and lots of them. It has caused the bush to open and limbs to fall very low. I removed some blooms to try to help with the weight but I really don't know how far back to cut them. I'm sure my past pruning has something to do with this. The Bush is over 8 feet tall. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I was going to send a picture of the bush but I have not figured out how to do that.

I'm in Zone 8 and I have some Nikko Blue Hydrangeas that border my front patio. They get about 6-7 hours of full sun and at the end of the day, they look limp and thirsty; however, in the morning they look happy and fresh. I used to think that when they look parched in the late afternoon, they needed water, but come to find out, I was watering them too much. Danielle, should I move them more in a shadier location? I hate to see them look limp when I get home from work.

Oh my, your hydrangea room is looking gorgeous! I think hydrangeas make for a very romantic garden. Can you tell me which of these are blooming on new wood? I have 6 hydrangeas that came with the house, and they bloom on old wood. 95% of the buds are frozen off each winter in our zone 5/6 garden. We are going to try a burlap wrap this winter otherwise we should replace. The white hydrangea that blooms on. new wood does great. I am slowly adding to our garden.

Hi Danielle, like your other subscribers I started watching you because of your hydrangea room. I'm a fellow hydrangea lover, in 2 years I've planted over 25 hydrangeas in my new garden in Northern Illinois zone 5B: Endless Summer, Little Lime, Bobo, Quick Fire Fab, Bloomstruck, Twist N Shout lace cap, Let's Dance Sky View & Let's Dance Lovable. Although Paniculata's are so much less effort, I still have a real love for the Big Leaf varieties and still working hard to get the blue/purple colors in my low acidic soil using coffee grinds and soil acidifier. I've just started my new TH-cam channel, hope you'll check me out. Anne @MartinHouseFlowers 💚👩🏻‍🌾💚
