Ducati Superleggera V4 vs 1299 Superleggera on the Dyno! Horsepower War!

  • I finally got a chance to put both of these bikes on the dyno and the results are fascinating. All SAE corrected numbers, 91 octane Shell pump gas. Weather was very nice, ranging between 70-75 degrees F and low humidity.
    Previously the V4SL had made 201.4 horsepower so apparently it liked the weather or additional break-in. I never dynoed the 1299SL prior to this day.
    Mentioned in the video, these bikes are a fair amount of work to get torque numbers on and I’ve been hesitant to use a lot of Shorty’s time ripping the bikes apart. But maybe in the future we’ll make it happen.
    Let me know in the comments what you think, what other details you’d like to know, and like and subscribe please!

    Thank you for sharing this video appreciated !!! SL's are great bikes for sure and best to have both in the stable. I come from Aprilia and had the RSV4 rf 1000 2016 decided to change to Ducati. I rode back to back test drive the V4s with Akrapovic fitted and the 1299s stock , and as you described the V4 showed more power and modern but the 1299 is brutal with that torque. I choosed the 1299s and will install Akrapovic and upgrade ecu.

    Very special video, thank you for sharing. I have a soft spot for the 1299 and plan to eventually own a 1299s, but there's no denying that the v4 is probably the better bike w/ the better drivetrain. Still.. 1285ccs of L-twin torque on a bike that weighs 368lbs is the thing that appeals to me most (besides my opinion that the panigale looks peaked w/ the 1299 series). Definitely can't wait to experience the 1299s one day.

      1299 feels more raw and exciting v4 is extreamly capable im talking s model of course since I have only ridden those but il tell you this the v4 speciale with mag wheels and race kit is supposed to be the most exciting v4 it's nowhere near as scarry as a base 1299s and 1299sl seems to be the most exciting of the 1299 range while the v4 sl is the most tame of the v4 2 different animal but if I have to choose the 1299 sl would be a bike I would love to ride all that drama and excitement.

    Thanks, great vid as always, if both went to a specialist tuner there must be more to come, interesting on the tests and I found that the 1299 was hard to hold on to with the power I don’t see anyone saying that about the V4 so I guess the V4 is more user friendly, must admit I don’t like my 1299SL on the road, too aggressive and way to hot, my 1199 is bad enough!

    • @TouchUpDirect
      @TouchUpDirect  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@farmind6582 yeah it is still an event for sure. But it is a more refined event...ultimately that’s what probably makes it faster around a track. But the lightened internals, wings and whatnot do make it more difficult to ride and an event always.

    To be fair the V4 does give up some extra displacement to the V-twin. The V4 is 999cc and the Vtwin is a 1285cc (cheater motor). That being said I would have to argue that is the most powerful production v-twin ever made. I am bias (own a 1299). Just think that V4 is one ugly muther fu@ker compared to the V-twin. I was chasing a V4 at my last trackday... i was in shock how hard/fast it pulled out of a corner. Never seen anything run like that.

    Very similar power figures. Which one feels faster on the road?

    • @TouchUpDirect
      @TouchUpDirect  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      They feel very, very different from each other. The 1299 is brutal. It has so much torque and HP and feels much smaller than the V4 so the perception is that it’s faster. But I believe that’s a direct effect from what I just mentioned. The V4 is more refined, yet still wicked fast. And the way the V4 revs is nuts...sometimes it feels like it’s time to shift, yet I’m on;y at 12-13,000 rpm (so 3000+ to go!). When it’s at the top of the rev range it is so manic and so fast it’s really difficult to describe. It just keeps pulling like nothing I’ve ever ridden before. To answer the question, I suppose ultimately the V4 feels faster, but in such a different way it’s hard to answer definitively.
