  • I've noticed that a few things have been extra important to me in the weeks recovering from amputation...
Unsponsored AMAZING Coffee I Referenced! Seriously check them out, guys, even if you aren’t in Indiana (I’m in Colorado and get their stuff every chance I get!)!

In 2018, I made the difficult decision to have an elective below knee amputation due to years of constant and mounting pain and over ten ankle surgeries trying to save it. This channel is to document my journey of surgery, recovery, and reclaiming my life.

I have that t-shirt, too. My doctors love it! I get my first prosthesis in 2 days and have been saving one for the occasion that says "Some Assembly Required'. A sense of humor is an absolute necessity.

mart urb yes! 100%! I too suffer from depression and anxiety and panic attacks and these little guys help so much. It’s like their innocence and curiosity is so healing and calming. I love them! I’ll definitely incorporate them into more videos I’m so glad you love little rats too!

I also suffer with depression and anxiety and was thinking about getting rats. I have a two dogs and two cats who I see often but they don't live with me and I wanted companions and I have never had rats before. I obviously have to do my research to see how to take care of the little guys and if I could handle them, but overall would you guys recommend them as pets?

We learned that accepting help is often us helping others. One lady LIKES to vacuum. Often, that person who stays in the background in groups is eager to feel useful to others. It is amazing how many enjoy doing laundry, folding clothes, and doing the ironing. They enjoy the clean and fresh experience from that. We can bless them by letting them help. Many will ask "What can I do to help?" because they truly want to do something.
Having a single task for them can make their day. A single cleaning chore.
"I'd love a coffee from Starbucks or a Asian Chicken salad from Wendy's? Could we share a cup or lunch together?" It can be an opportunity to help some learn how to not be uncomfortable with your amputation. Kids can be amazing. A young girl gifted an American Girl doll that had lost a leg to a annoying big brother. A 3 year old at church asked, "Miss Y, Why do you have a robot leg?" A brief answer about having a very sick foot and "Oh."
When somebody asks, "How are you doing? Can I do something to help?" and you are not having a great day, you can answer "It's a roller coaster ride. I'd love it if somebody could help me catch up cleaning the house." Rather than having to comfort them as they hear of your struggles, you have changed the subject so they can feel helpful.
It is amazing how amputation surgery impacts those around us more than the prior surgeries that were often more difficult recoveries.
Be glad you are not a peg leg pirate. They do not allow rats on pirate ships LOL. Did you know that rats have brain matter that is very similar to humans?
Keep smiling. Some days, that may be the goal.

I also had a rat by the way that was confiscated from a pet store due to abuse and neglect, he had awful fear biting. My vet put him on prozac for about 1.5 months just to get him over the fear, after that we weened him off of it and Sigmund Freud was an awesome rat afterwards and a personal favorite of mine.... although, I would tell you all of my babies were my favs, but he was one of the stand outs!

I have had many rats 17 in total, right now I'm down to 1, I had one of my little guys put to sleep this past week. They are wonderful pets and I love how you're a rat owner yourself!

Another great video. I have goals set also I do my pt routine and shower clean clothes. My dog is home which adds more to my routine. I use wheelchair in my house and Walker. Going places I have a semi custom chair but they are going to make me light weight chair. Asking for help for me is hard but I need to do it more. Your videos help alot of people feeling the same way and knowing that we are not crazy this is normal. Try black rifle coffee it is veteran run company and stellar coffee.

This is a random comment and has nothing to do with amputation, but I grew up in NJ, where mice and rats are often unwanted guest in people's homes. Every morning, my mom would set out glue traps in our apt, to trap any rodents we may have. Well, I would come home from school about an hour before my mom would get home, so I would quickly go check all the glue traps, and if a mouse was stuck on it, I'd take it outside and very carefully unstick it from the trap to set it free. When my mom found out that I had been doing that she freaked out and actually told me I'm a disgusting little girl. 😐 She said that "normal" little girls think mice are gross and disgusting, and im behaving like a boy. That always stuck with me, and when you said you have pet rats and called them cute, I remembered my mother's statement, and I laughed out loud, because it has taken me all these years later to finally find another girl who is apparently not a "normal" girl 🤷‍♀️🤣

It's Simply Elle hey again Elle! I hear you...having that mask to hide behind can be a coping tool for awhile. Dennis Tokay they are up at my parents house in the Forest (they love it there) until my wound is totally healed - they’re all big enough dogs that they bump into me and I’m already dizzy from meds that we didn’t want to chance it. We bright one home a few weeks ago and within two days she broke my wound open, though it wasn’t like she meant to, she is the sweetest baby ever. We are hoping to bring them home finally next weekend!! 😊
