Been there done that on countless W140's. Buy the J hooks or remove the power knee bolster pad.... Beforehand...get a butter knife...put some oil or silicone on the blade and then insert the blade along the bottom of the cluster and and work the blade around the cluster... this will help break it loose....slide the knife in about 2 inches or use a credit card and work it around the cluster and dash. Don't forget to lower and extend the steering wheel also.
You just have to play with it. If still being stubborn you might have to take your pry tool to the other side of the cluster, pop it out first, the pop the other side out as described. Then the whole cluster will come out.

I am unable to remove the speaker grill on top of the air vents. I used quite a bit of force but i am worried its going to break.
