Wow! Please do more artist interviews. Instead of just dwelling on that cool riff they did 30 years ago or whatever, you’re getting into some nuts and bolts of how they think - on music, society and beyond. Frankly, these are the kinds of artist discussions I am most interested in
I remember hearing Sonic Youth back in the day, mostly at noisy parties in the background. Then one day I heard 'Incinerate'. I went home, put on headphones, and listened to it seven more times. I heard something new every time. I thought, "Someone in this band is Good. Really Good."
I have been a fan of your work for some time but I never thought you would interview Thurston Moore. He is a true artist in my opinion, I respect him. Good job on this @Polyphonic 👍
Great stuff getting Thurston Moore for an interview. Id love if you could get a member of Mogwai to talk with next! Also i have to say this-i can't STAND Lydon, even when he was in the Sex Pistols. I will acknowledge they influenced a lot of great bands but they and especially him I've never been able to understand the appeal personally, id much rather listen to Minutemen any day and Live+Cuddly by NomeansNo is also one of the best live punk/rock albums I've ever heard (i know neither are strictly punk because of their incorparation of other styles but damn, they were both far more punk than Lydon/Sex Pistols i believe)
@@CJSports307 I don't think whether your British or not has anything to do with it personally, I mean I'm from Scotland and I couldn't agree more about his phoniness-im not going to talk about when he was in PiL because I've never paid attention to them so I don't think it would be fair but as far as the Sex Pistols go and his time with them, as short as it was it seemed more like a vehicle with no genuine direction other than getting eyes on him. I dunno, I'll go listen to the first 2 Gang of Four albums and get INFINITELY more out of that lol
@@daveldma I've never heard of them, thanks a lot I'll check them out later on! 👍 I've never really been stuck to one "scene", I enjoy bands/artists from Hendrix and Pink Floyd to The Jam to Slint, Mission of Burma, Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, The Cure, Cocteau Twins, Pixies, The Breeders, Pavement, Shellac, Hella, Mogwai, Sonic Youth (obviously haha), Stone Roses, Primal Scream, Gorkys Zygotic Mynci, and on and on so I'll give nearly anything a go! Edit-jist had a quick read about them on Wiki and now I understand why you suggested it-im guessing you mean the PiL song yeah and not THE flowers of romance? I've genuinely never bothered with PiL just because of Lydon (which is silly because Keith Levene was in the band too I just get really frustrated with Lydon lol) but I'll certainly give it a listen because I don't want to write something off that I might surprisingly enjoy just out of spite or something dumb like that 😂 thanks again!
@@teethgrinder83 I meant the album by PIL, good chance you won't like it, but its my favorite thing John Lydon did along with a bit of the stuff they did right before that album like Swan Lake/Death Disco. I find his persona off putting but I like that period of PIL.
You have to remember (if you read Kim’s book) thruston and Lee were doing lots of coke in those days. Not an excuse for their behavior but gives better insight into why they were the way they were.
I love Thruston Moore. Can you upload the interview without the added commentary? It's not that I don't like your spins, I am sub'd to your channel after all, but I think Thurston can speak for himself.
White people have tried to take it from the black community as we’ve done with so many things. I say we keep using it and we use it in the way it was originally intended, as a recognition of awareness, not a derisive term toward the social justice movement
Woke is the swastika of sociopolitical terms: it used to mean something positive (an Eastern symbol of peace) till the worst human beings to ever live took it and made it sound or look like a symbol of evil.
I was wondering how far down I would need to scroll before I got to this knucklehead comment. Didn’t take too long. This is like conservatives complaining about rage against the machine, evidently not realizing they’ve literally been championing left-wing politics their entire fucking careers. Get a clue man
Crazy you got Thurston moore for an interview.
man is quite accessible but a great guest
What in the world! So cool

ABIGAIL DEVOE???!?????

This made me smile so big! Thank you for this! Sonic Youth has always been one of my biggest influences
Holy crap Thurston Moore
I haven't watched a video of yours for years but this is the only guitarist that could change that
Polyphonic got the big name music geeks commenting in here and it makes sense. Thurston is a music legend and an influential figure

Same here. Excellent songwriting there
Haha well wasn't expecting this but maybe I should have

6:02 ayyy now THERES a man who understands the word, more often than not, is “jibe”, rather than “jive”

I agree. Lydon seemed so phony for someone who preached constantly about being himself, at least to me. Maybe it’s because I’m not British.
Flowers of Romance is good.

Did he or Lee ever apologize to Nardwuar?
Yes they did a second interview, but that’s also just the way they were in the 90’s (personality wise) sadly:(

Skirting around the edge
Real Never fake never ever did he follow the mainstream or gave in. did as he pleases and his music pleased us
Whats with the glasses reflection of lights, ????
You got an interview with Thurston? Jelly….😅
Cool. I didn't
Great now do Kim Gordon. I'm sure she'll have plenty to add.
He is almost smart but not close enough
Can you really not hear the hollowness behind his bland pretensions? Every detail seems to contradict his faux profundity.
Read the words as if you didn't have a punk crush on speaker. When he strays from technical and historical knowledge, he sounds like an imbicile
NOISERS RISE
Jesus that was the most pretentious video I’ve seen lately
ikr
first
I despise his character
We don't even get to see him? Meh
Yeah except woke is no longer an acceptable term.

It's acceptable ,it just means being a stupid sheep that thinks whatever the woke cult tells you to think
Why?
Woke. No thanks. Is this a woke channel?? I hope not.
Cry some more, please
Love Sonic Youths music, but Thurston is a liberal mess 🤣
