God as he was naming episodes I could remember watching them, the room the TV and then the next day discussing them with friends at school about ways “we would do it better” because that’s the kind of confidence you have when you’re in middle school and have no engineering knowledge. Thanks for the trip it was fun man.

Hearing you talk about these things is a trip through my childhood. My 6th grade science teacher introduced me to the show in 2006, and I was instantly addicted. I never missed a new episode on Wednesday(the new episode day at that time). I love to learn and experiment, and I also have a TON of questions about the possibility of some of the things I see in TV and movies. I had a rough childhood, and Mythbusters was a release for me. I escaped everything watching that show. I'm 26 now and doing fine, but I want to thank you guys for making my childhood better. Man, looking at these old blueprints is so cool, sometimes it feels especially good walking down memory lane, and I think we can all agree that Mythbusters was very special to every one of us and was an integral part of our life and growing up.
It completely caught me off guard for a second when I saw Jamie's handwritten numbers on the Cola blueprint because the numbers themselves appear perfectly identical to how I write and form mine. I know it's silly because it's just handwritten numbers, but it's often those little idiosyncratic things that I find most fascinating.

In the best way possible, this is painful to watch. You can feel so much from Adam every time he opens a new item. There is so much nostalgia for us, as well as him. So much pleasure, wonder, discovery and enjoyment. You can feel his delight as each item he brings out takes us all RIGHT back to that. But there is that bittersweet pain, knowing it is only a moment. And the sharp reminder that Grant isn't with us. You know it is killing Adam to part with each of these things, while also passing along and building hope, in a new way, to do just that. I would love to pick up one of these items and leave it with Adam and the team, in recognition of so much they gave us.

I'm from uruguay, we had mythbusters around noon. Our schools either start at 1 or end at 1. Whenever i had a school year be it primary, middle or highschool, which left me enough time to catch an episode before going to school i would religiously watch it before heading off.

I believe hammer jump was the first episode i watched from mythbusters and it hooked me in.

I'm not sure who else would be able to remember this kind of detail after so many years.

I think I’ve heard Adam say before that when Mythbusters went to a location, they always ensured that the left it in the exact same condition the found it in, or better, which as you have to admire must have been an incredible feat.

I never realized the blueprints were actually hand drawn! I always assumed it was clever CGI…awesome to learn so much about the show so long after it began!

This is crazy, I remember watching the first episode on its first airing in Australia. It was such an awesome show, unlike anything before and while the whole show was great, the early days were the best before it became over produced. It seems like yesterday, to think they've been in storage for so long, where did the time go????

To me, Mythbusters was, and still is, the greatest, most satisfying television show of all time. Adam’s unrestrained enthusiasm and Jamie’s mustache (as well as his charmingly pragmatic and taciturn approach to problem solving) was a winning combination. I stopped paying for television after original Top Gear and MB went away. Thank goodness for TH-cam.

Just watching you talk about these blueprints brought me so much joy. Mythbusters was, and is, everything to me. I signed up for the auction but I already know I'm too poor to be able to afford anything. 😅

    • @tested
      @tested  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Every bid will start at $0, so it's really a matter of how many other people register and bid. The idea of the auction was to make it as accessible as possible to everyone, but it's hard to know how it'll go!

I'll be interested to see how the hammer prices for items you're featuring on here will compare to similar items that you didn't specifically talk about. I have a hunch they'll fare significantly better.. Can't wait to see if there's anything I can even afford... :)
And as an aside - I can't believe you stole that poor otter's joy! :D

I think it's pretty funny that none of these are really blueprints, but it was very clever to use blue paper and silver sharpie.
It would have looked a lot less sophisticated looking to use ordinary white paper and black sharpies.

I remember watching my first episode during season 1. I don't even need to tell you how I felt because if you're here, you felt it too in your own special way. But I will anyway. I felt like this show was made for me. That this is a show that I will watch with my kids and it will be with us our whole lives. If you didn't watch it with your kids, or didn't have kids, I'm sure that it was like watching it with your "kid self." It was perfectly made in the sense that we were on their journey of discovery. You could say, "Nah, that's not going to work." and it would, or it wouldn't, but it always really pushed you to think, be surprised, and learn.
I just know that I never use the phrase, "bull in a china shop," and always use the phrase "we're making popcorn with lasers."

These need to be archived before selling them off (if this has not already been done). A coffee table book with the blueprints and their story/history detailed would be fantastic. Posters or 8x10 copies to frame and hang up. A deck of baseball like cards of all the blueprints. So many ways to market these and even make profits go to Grant's charity.

The blueprints were a fundamental part of the show. They always reminded me of wile e coyote, which actually seems like a good comparison. Much of the first season could have been sponsored by Acme.
Edit: I will admit that I have not watched all of these videos to see everything they are putting up for auction, but if they have what remains of one of the water heaters turned rockets, I think that would be a huge hit. Pieces would be neat, but the body crumpled like a smashed soda can? That would be a great centerpiece to someone's collection.
