Sure its nice to have the glass panel and the capability that the new avionics bring, but the nostalgics amoung us just love things left as they should be. Another awesome video. Thanks crew,

    Thank you for the memories. I was checked out for landing at Catalina when I was working on my private license in 1972 out of Eagle Aviation. I was instructed to make my final approach at 45 degrees to the runway as strong downdrafts were always a possibility there and it would be easier to terminate my approach. I believe the jet crash is accurate. In the 80's, one of my customers came in with a broken arm and said he crashed a rented jet at Catalina.

    San Pedro native here...visited the cafe there dozens of times in the 80s...in Jan of '84 the Lear overshot the runway..i was a student at Southwest Skyways at KTOA then...after the FAA got done and the airport was open we flew over to check it out...there was a Piper Cherokee from Peninsula Aviation (KTOA) with the wings off and loaded on a flat bed trailer for quite awhile that had run off the end about a year earlier
    the buffalo are descendants of some that were barged over in the 1920s for a movie shoot and were left there rather than spend the money to take them back to the mainland ...
    back in the 80s if i recall the landing fee ($10 ?)was waived if you dined at the restaurant or went into town ..in any event there was a 5 dollar over night tie down fee when we stayed at my uncles condo in Avalon

    In 1987 my wife and I watched a Falcon 50 land on 22 and make the mid-field turnoff to the ramp. Only two aboard, must have been light on fuel as well. Same day, the airport was visited by two - that's two - PBY's. Great airport for burgers and plane spotting.

    Of course now I'm jonsen for a 'buffalo burger'! LOL I remember this little 33 from the last video. The gear has that short bent in looking stance like a Baron, but blows out and comes in like a military fighter jet, fast. The 66 just takes its time. LOL That drop off looks interesting. If you did go off the end, wonder if you could gain enough nose-down/low to pull up and out of it? I would never want to test that theory though!! LOL Thanks guys, enjoyed that one. --gary

    Hey Rich, another nice film, thanks. First went to Catalina in ‘92. By the way, I think they’re technically Bison, the story goes the original herd came from a movie made in Hollywood decades ago.
    I like your take on single engine piston values, as a 1965 Comanche owner I hope you’re right. Based on your market confidence, if I pay your full asking price for that lovely analogue Bonanza, you’d buy it back from me in three years for the same figure right ….!? 😊
    Keep up the good work.

    Heck…I wouldn’t do anything to the avionics in this Bonanza. This airplane is equipped with a straightforward traditional instrument panel, excellent reliable King radios, and supplemental gauges. Honestly I feel that round-dial gauges and instruments are more intuitive to read, process, and interpret vs. digital flight instruments that your brain has to process and interpret.

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I don't disagree, but I sure the new stuff as well!

  • @TomasAWalker53
    @TomasAWalker53 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    As I began flying in 1974, I appreciate the new avionics that have swept the GA market but the costs in the short term are in many cases equal to the price of the aircraft.😩 I prefer the steam gauges to flat screens but open to Garmin’s line of hybrid round gauges. Your choice to let the buyer choose is a wise one. Much like residential developers who decide to add a pool to a property supposedly to promote a quicker sale. Only to find that many buyers don't want a pool for a number of personal reasons or they did but didn't like the design the developer chose. Why keep an aircraft out of the market while converting to a system many don't want⁉️😩
    Wise move. A new buyer might be thrilled with a panel they feel the most comfortable with. There are buyers wishing to buy a non-converted aircraft with the full intention of doing so right away. Double the possible customers.
    In conclusion, I have to say that when you take off, you track the centre line all the way. Upon landing, you also track that centre-line like you’re on a rail‼️😁 I'm noticing this fact in comparison to all the other TH-cam's out there who don’t⁉️😩😳
    Good on ya‼️😊
