I have straightend loads of toys, just put it in just boiled water and go slow pushing it back to shape. You can see me do this multiple times in my Star Wars restoration videos. Just go slow.
As I got older I wondered why they didn't color the underside a sky-blue for camouflage; when you're on the ground looking up at it. TY for sharing! you motivated me to fix the Cobra F.A.N.G. helicopter blade that SOMEHOW snapped near the connector end. That was my favorite.
I love when old toys come back to life. We had a Rock Shot from Rock Lords that didn't work... Nothing was broken, I took it apart months ago and nothing was missing or broken, but only yesterday we managed how to put it back together having a fully functional toy in very good conditions! Whe had to disassemble the rewinding mechanism in all its separate pieces.

Informative video. It is possible to repair the bent stabilizer by using heat from a hair dryer or heat gun. Just be careful not to melt the plastic. It just needs to be warmed up enough to position the stabilizer. This method also helps to reduce stress marks. In response to Rattler repair: it is possible, but risky. I did manage to repair both the front and rear landing gear.

Is made of plastic and it basically does the same thing as the screwdriver with painters tape on it. Hopefully they are durable enough to use it for this purpose.
Don't use painters tape... try the nylon pry bars for car trim & moldings.They work so much better with out damaging plastic. I grabbed a set from Habor Freight for cheap to do my restorations.

Also if you got anytricks for MOTU Eternia track rails and more MOTU stuff id love to see it.. Also I really like ur intro.. i find myself singing it in my head..lol
I always, ALWAYS, hold my breath every time you seperate plastic halves in your restorations, (the worse was with the Robotech Veritech) but the payoff is always great. I think the bent tail fin is a nice touch, a reminder that this is YOUR childhood toy. And those out of context clips are hilarious!
I bet you could gradually repair that stress point with a blow dryer and a little pressure, maybe place a dowel or something between the two fins afterwards and let it set for a while?
Just sold a massive STAR WARS collection to a museum, and I do pity the poor fool that has to go through all that stuff, clean it up and restore it all back to new(ish) condition.I imagine he'll be doing this same type of work for the next few years to come.
Definitely! A good hairdryer is a valuable restoration tool: warming plastic to help straighten out bends and to remove, or reduce plastic stress marks; softening the glue on stickers, to help keep them intact during removal; and drying metal parts thoroughly after a clean.

Awesome video guys claw was a great little toy, Wasn't the biggest GI Joe fan when I was young but except for the cobra ATV which was great but the thing broke very quickly. I did love putting these toys together as a kid some of them were almost like models kits, later got me into the early Gundam clip kits way before Gundam was a thing lol. Keep up the great works :)
i remember first seeing the CLAW at Khols. i ao desperately wanted one. my friend got one and i was soooo jealous. eventually i got one and married it. cool to see it return in the later years and when i got one i noticed it was half the toy it used to be... literally!
Great restoration video Michael, I agree restoring gi joe vehicles are a nightmare but when you're finally finished and it was a success it's very satisfying.
Have you considered simply using a heat gun on the bent stabilizer and bending it into shape afterwards?? It is a common tenchnique used by the wargamers to reposition the plastic miniatures.
Just an FYI for anyone watching this video and attempting the same or something similar on a toy that needs to be split/separated/pried : Use plastic spudger tools

for a small vehicle it had a lot of nice details. it was prone to breakage due to heavy play.

Yeah, and there's apparently a better tool that's plastic. I placed a note over the section where I mention the painters tape.

if you save the old parts you can get another one an create a custom battle damaged version

buy/borrow a heat gun and *CAREFULLY* use it and a metal straight edge to 'flex' the tail fin straight again

this is a wierd one because your replacing half the toy so its not actually your childhood toy anymore.....just half of it.

A little heat from a heat gun will straighten out that top tail fin. I did it with a night raven and it work out well.

I had one of those! It broke when the dog stepped on it.
I've always found a cheap kitchen knife as a good separator. also, a dime or a guitar pick can also work well.
now I want to find my C.L.A.W. I never had cobra Commander tho.
