    The section from 15:00 onwards had me crying, truly. What a heartbreaking, beautiful piece of work, Jonathan. You are an absolute master at composition and orchestrating.
    No demo on YT showcases the tremendous power of StaffPad more than this one. Hearing Stravinsky and Beethoven played back brilliantly is nice and all, but StaffPad is about original composition, and this work showcases just that.
    A breathtaking experience from start to finish.
    Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this.

      No worries man, this is a masterful piece of music. I've already listen to it three times and some sections more.
      Keep up the great work. You make me want to compose more with StaffPad instead of my DAW.

      @@FreakieFan In all honesty, if I don’t have a deadline for work, all my composing is now done on StaffPad. The orchestra is balanced so nicely and you can get a lot of emotion out of it very easily.

      Yeah, I have Berlin Strings and I love using it. I'm thinking of getting the other Berlin packs as well because at the moment it's really hard to balance and blend Berlin Strings with the stock sounds.

    Really beautiful and inspiring. Was deciding if i should buy a slave computer to extend my orchestration exercises... and you gave me the answer: I will invest in staffpad libraries and practice practice practice scoring. Incredible power and amazing results. Thank you so much for sharing!

    I like the impressionistic, floating character. Plus the samples/ mixing sounds very nice! Well done and definitely standing out from most of the "compositions" one finds on the web.

    This a really good and fun piece. Do you use any special tricks when mastering to get this much brighter sound? Out of the box, even despite carefully balancing the dynamics, the overall sound with staffpad is always so dull and muddy. At least for me. Is there something you can do in Logic (or Reaper for me) to brighten it up? I also use the complete Berlin orchestra library and CinePerc

    Thank you Jonathan: What a beautiful, rich and inspired piece of music - and what a pleasant and imaginative orchestration! I am just beginning to change from Cubase / DAW to handwriting composing in StaffPad. Do you (or someone else) have any helpful hint for some instructive books or video channels about learning how to orchestrate? I am trying to start with Rimsky-Korsakovs Principles of Orchestration. Any recommandations are highly apprecciated! :-)

    • @jdrcomposer
      @jdrcomposer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Axel Caro Thank you! Rimsky-Korsakov is great, I’d also try engraving some John Williams while reading off the score and inputting to StaffPad. That way you can hear clearly what each instrument adds to the whole.

    • @Mercutio111
      @Mercutio111 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jdrcomposer Thank you for your prompt and helpful reply. I think, it is a reasonable and practical approach to engrave some scores of some masters into StaffPad (I suppose, this was mainly your way to improve your skills - besides practicing, practicing and practicing?! ;-))
      I started this with Beethoven - but John Williams will sure be the next. Do you have any hint, where to find full orchestra scores of good quality in musicXML format? Does there exist a platform for exchange of genuine StaffPad files? Best regards, Axel

    Hey Jonathan! May I ask how the general handling in Staffpad is? Clunky or easy going so that you're able to compose on the fly wherever you want?
    And what device you're using for StaffPad (iPad or Surface?) and how much the total cost were with the Berlin Orchestra included?
    I'm totally thinking about switching to Staffpad too, but sadly there is no demo to try it out. So your videos with Staffpad and BO helped alot!
    Big hug from Germany
    Tim

    • @jdrcomposer
      @jdrcomposer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Tim! It handles fantastically on an iPad Pro. Each section of the orchestra costs 100 and the harp/solo strings are 70. I’ve moved completely to staffpad for all orchestral work

    • @TimSFischer
      @TimSFischer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jdrcomposer Thanks Jonathan for the insight! Hah, looks like there's finally a pretty solid solution to move away from the DAW for more inspirational complex writing whenever and wherever you want. Even the prices for the sections are totally human.
      Great stuff. Don't stop writing mate! :-)

    What are you mean in phrase "All mixing done in Logic Pro X" - all track bounced separately in StaffPad (Is it possible?) and then mixed in Logic?

    • @jdrcomposer
      @jdrcomposer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! Yup, that’s exactly correct!

    • @MiloPaulus
      @MiloPaulus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is possible! StaffPad has an Export as Stems option, which neatly names and exports all of the instrument tracks as separate WAV files. Which makes mixing and mastering in a DAW of choice really easy.

    This is a masterpiece Jonathan. Really beautiful and very well orchestrated. You are a great composer. May I ask you which reverb are you using? Did you use staffpad built-in reverb? Congratulations for this piece.

    Excellent work really and beautiful compositions! I use Notion (see my channel if you want to see the great results this other notation software can do) but this software also looks promising !
    Is the Berlin Orchestra for staffpad naturally well balanced (between the instruments and between the sections of the orchestra, as well as the first chairs, the piano and the harp) ? Or did you have to adjust the volume (and the pan, reverb, ...) for certain instruments ?
