Spitfire was recorded in Lyndhurst Hall (where Harry Potter and Inception were recorded). Berlin was recorded in a studio, a box room. It's obvious Spitfire has a rich professional tone, but Berlin has more accurate playback... sometimes. My setup: Woodwinds: mix of Spitfire and Berlin Brass: Spitfire only. The rest are okay, but as a brass player... no. Strings: Berlin 70% of the time, as it's genius, but Spitfire chamber & symphonic for some pieces/passages. Percussion Spitfire for common (celeste, timpani, etc.) & CinePerc for odds (ratchet) and cinematic percussion. I also have the choir, antique keys, and a few others. Great libraries all around, but the main orchestra is best as a mix and match. There's no point arguing over whether a British or German bassoonist or flautist is better. Mix the best of both and swap them when the other fits more. For a great digital mock-up, treat it like a digital stage, not a real one. Your music will sound better if you break a few rules now and then.
Interesting you say, as a brass player, you like Spitfire. I'm a brass player, too. Yet, I was not convinced on the Spitfire brass sound. I do like the Chamber Strings. I will give their brass another look. If you don't mind me asking, what do you like about Spitfire brass? Perhaps your insight will help me.

Both are nice imo. Bit of a darker sound with Berlin
Both are good woodwinds. Who your editor is will make them sound better.
So Berlin Woods are better? But overall, there's so many inconsistencies throughout all of them :(
Orchestral Tool does it for me.
I don’t like the accents and i am having issues with the Berlin string when they tremolo. When they tremolo, the sound like drums.
I like spitfire
