  • Tsunami Evict NEW for 2019
    First off this isn't a review....not at least how I prefer to use the term. As You can't review a product without actually using it. This is an unboxing, detailed analysis, and teardown. But to have it show up in searches I have to use the phrase Tsunami Evict Review.
    And for many out there looking for the right reel. Tear downs can prove very helpful

    Was going to purchase the Evict today, you swayed me away with your analysis of the butt plate. I went ahead and got the Shield 4000, saved me some money. From what I hear the Shield is sealed nicely and can take a beating.

    So, just for anyone wondering, I’ve been fishing this reel on a weekly/ biweekly basis since late April, and have had no issues. The reel has been surf fished a few times but mostly pier use, and I have done nothing more then shower it off every couple of weeks. So far a pretty tight reel, but no drag screamers
    , or monsters to put it to the test

    I’ve just figured something out.
    You pass on some really good tips.
    I’ve got one for you, instead of using EXPENSIVE weights for soft plastic baits I’m thinking that screws (small) can be used as neko weights. Stainless or brass if you will. The threads should hold them in place and make some nice noise when hitting bottom.
    You can also vary the weight by using different size screws.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks Nick, I'm not disagreeing. But I can't really call it that if it's nice out of the box without using it. And if I called it garbage. And it worked for a few seasons of party boat black fish use. Because it had stainless gears and basic but rubber sealed bal bearings. I'd look pretty silly :) For me this reel mainly it's clutch and bearings would be done in a month of spring bass / bluefishing. Simply due to not being able to avoid splashes and the occasional dunk

      i've had many reels in my time and it seems like they all have at least one negative aspect that a person would consider it's achilles heel. this evict has that plastic ornamental piece in the back that doesn't have a gasket. i own two daiwa bg's that are considered great reels and advertised as water resistent but they both have an anti reverse switch that goes back and forth in a massive cavity cut out of the reels bottom that looks like it would sink a boat. at least on the evict i can take the plastic trim off and put a bead of silicone around the edge then put the piece back

    I was hoping this reel would be sealed as good as the shield model. Sad to say that open tail end under that cover is just silly. I wish the bail closing issue on my shield 3000 and 4000 could be fixed and I would be perfectly happy with the shields. I’ve never had to take them apart but the bails close on a long cast and I don’t like that.

    At a lower price point this would have been a good reel. Just consider that back plastic piece as a grease port. That gear set was impressive and the handle was cool. I don't think you get the SS gears in Fin-Nor until you get to the offshore series. The lethal line is pure crapola. You can get the spinfisher V's at crazy prices now so paying 180 for this is crazy.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right. It was forged brass. not stainless. One nice thing about the SSV is that you can order brass gear sets for direct fit replacements from penn.

    DO NOT BUY THE EVICT ! I used the 4000 series in the surf and I opened it up after the reel was giving problems with the reel suddenly becoming hard to reel. After opened I come to find the reel main gear is completely corroded . I washed this reel with fresh water thoroughly every time after use . I DO NOT RECOMMEND!

    i'm not ready to condemn this evict for the ornamental plastic on it's backside. take it off and run a bead of silicon around the edge and put it back and that fixes that. i have two BG's that are advertised as water resistant but they both have two huge anti reverse switches sitting in a huge open cavity on the bottom of the reel body. gives new meaning to achilles heel. these BG's are good reels but they'll except water just as fast or faster than the evict and be a lot more work to get into and clean

  • @Benjamin-S
    @Benjamin-S 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    So if you use them for...not saltwater...it’s good??? I think they can rethink their design. They really look great until you see they aren’t sealed in the back...that thing really doesn’t seem right. If they fix that though, they are as good as shimano and daiwa. Where/who are they made by?

  • @baseballgod8065

  • @KuhChuck
    @KuhChuck 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Scoob. Do you see any logic to reel sizes across different manufacturers (something like a Daiwa 5000 is always about the size of a Penn 6000), or even across a specific manufacturers product lines (are all Shimano 8000's exactly the same size). Some sort of chart would be extremily helpful.
    I live way inland in Canada and the products I can get my actual hands on and put them on a rod is so limited even though I live in a major city. It's very hard for me to shop for saltwater rated equipment and have any idea what to get. ...of all the various reels you had in this video for comparison I only have access to one and its a 3hrs drive away.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately there really is no standard. 4k for shimano used to be tiny compared to 4k from daiwa...now daiwa came out with the lt line which is similar to some of shimanos reels. but everyone is different in terms of weight, size, capacity...kind of a pain in the arse

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      it depends on the clutch. I go by what it came with. Well...at least if it was greased. That usually mean it can take oil. And if it was oiled. It has the chance to not handle grease. And I always test in the fridge to see if it fails.

    always great reviews. If you place yamaha outboard grease in the butt plate area and other areas where you think their would be water intrusion would that help? when i mean grease i mean quiet a lot of it. was there any mechanical flaw? with my understanding you worry only about water intrusion. if you grease the bearings and gears and the other parts i described would that solve the problem to what degree?

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't hurt. Would help some. Then theres the issue of how durable that piece is. Especially in the cold. There weren't really any flaws as it's a fairly standard and proven design. But the clutch housing in the smaller sizes is very low end I guess is the best way to put it. From the clutch to the housing.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure on the release date but I've had em for a while now. I gotta say though. I kinda dig the fastach clips in the size 1 and 0 over these as they're still more compact. I use the size 0 fastach clips on lures smaller than 1/16 and the size 1 on baits over 2 ounces. I like them on standard sized jerk baits better than the TA 25 clip

    • @romp23
      @romp23 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree I have the 25lb ta clips they are hard to use with medium sized lures I ordered the 50lb sizes to see if it helps.
      I also have been using the fastach clips and they work great for quick change .
      However I got a fish onboard
      the boat this past monday and as the fish was flopping the fastach let the lure go.
      The clip was still in perfect working order just got hung up in the wrong angle.

    I bought a Tsunami Guard 5000 and had issues with it, Tsunami is sending me an Evict 5000 to replace it. I'm really curious to see how it works first hand in the surf of NC. I'm gonna run it through the ringer and see how it performs. I'm not sure if the bail was bent during shipping which is possible so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and try this evict out before I pass judgment on them.

    Like the garbage smaller sized Abu silver max spinner. Same cheap white plastic housing with embedded cylinders. Of course they fell out on me and I lost 1 or 2 of them. Do you know where or how to find small parts like that? Just started servicing my own reels and that crap discouraged me. I didn't know if it's a common cylinder size or where to get them from.

      you'd have to but the entire clutch. As far as I'm aware that'd be the only way to guarantee material and size.

    Hey man, got a question about your Wera screwdrivers. You mention PoziDrive every now and then. Are those screwdrivers cool to use on all reel screws? Will they damage some screws? Thanks!!!

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sup man. As far as I've experienced. And you see me using em. Ive not once damaged a screw head using them. And the light blue handled size zero has seen quite a bit of use and still works without marring screw heads. Size 00 I use their Philips. I've been in a crap ton of different reels from different companies and never damaged any.

      Thanks for the info. Because of your channel I got into working on my reels my self. Some of the screws are pretty small on reels and I definitely want to keep myself from messing up my reels screw heads.@@TackleAdvisors

      While In khakis! :) We'll see. There are a few I'm interested in. The vanquish spinner is probably top on the list. The Slx mgl looks promising as well. I heard there is a new stradic coming as well as a new daiwa in that price range as well coming soon.
      I also want to look at some other brands than daiwa and shimano this year.

      It's fairly close. If you get a good spinfisher. It'd be smoother. Get a friday afternoon penn and the evict would beat it :)

      Hey man. I was using ll beans went through a 3 pairs of helix and 3 pairs of Kennebec zip fronts. Scored Redington zip fronts on amazon for like 225$ last spring and have been using them. Definitely guide weights not as breathable as the beans. But looking at the new Kennebecs. It looks like there is an inner leg seam which is a no no in my eyes. I use the devils canyon korkers with them and even though I didn't like em at first. I think this is season 4 with them which is insane since I never got through a single season with other korkers in the past. No real ankle support more like a tennis shoe in that regard but the flexibility let's me stick like glue on jetty rocks and rivers. Never a single fall while in em

      Witch pair did you find have the most comfortable booties, I just returned a pair that the foot had a thick uncomfortable seem under my toes.. My biggest concern is finding a pair with comfortable feet not many places to shop than online I'm just looking for a good pair with a better seem design

      @@daltonfishing8872 Man......that's a tough one. I think it may be a mfr issue as I've had same sizes and styles fit differently especially in the bootie. I think the best bootie design goes to simms. I noticed yesterday that the tape on the redingtons I have is starting to tear in the base of the heel. bad sign.
