As a Gen-Xer, I love having my music in the cloud and on my computer and phone, but I still buy used CDs. The kind of music I like is easy to find used, used CDs are generally super cheap, like 1/10th the price of buying the album on ITunes, and I can rip them into my online music collection so I have instant music anywhere AND physical media backups AND I own it 100% legally and no one can take it away. Best of both worlds, but that just describes Gen X right there! :)

I have an autographed copy of Great White's "Can't Get There From Here"....any bidders🙂? Cool list man - cds are still one of my favorite mediums for music!

My wife (girlfriend at the time) went down to Manifest Disc in Charlotte while I was working and bought the cd and had them sign it. One of the coolest things ever...wish I had met the band, lol. You brought back a great memory, my dude🙂. Keep rocking!
2 out of 5 is pretty good for the autograph factor alone. Did they sign the booklet, the disc or the jewel case, the booklet is better, the jewel case is the least wanted and also is the CD booklet and disc in good shape? If, so, easily it's worth between $400 and $800. Of course, if you had Malcolm also on there it'd go for over $1,000 🤘
The telling fact here is that just about everyone of these are SACDs, limited edition and rare, and/or signed by the artist/band. This doesn’t in anyway indicate that there’s a “CD collecting resurgence” sweeping across the universe. You CD collectors are funny. Are ya’ll feeling left out of the music format wars, or something…??? Funny. Anyway, I like CDs. I like vinyl more, but CDs are fine. I still buy them occasionally. I’m a Gen X’er, and when I was a kid, vinyl was towards the end of its run, but was still the top format. There has never been a time in my life when I didn’t own LPs or prefer the vinyl format. As I got older, and CDs became top dog, I didn’t donate my collection to the local Goodwill, or abandon it next to the neighborhood dumpster (I know several people who did), and then run out and replace with CDs. I never understood why anyone would do that, but that’s just me. At the end of the day I couldn’t care less what someone’s preferred physical format is, be it CD, vinyl, R2R, or cassette, doesn’t matter. What’s important, is that people are still buying, and listening to physical music mediums. I hate digital downloads and streaming, and in my opinion, these virtual formats if you will, have reduced the art of music, the art of creating, and recording to nothing more than a cheap commodity that can be discarded in seconds with the click of a button, or swipe of a finger. It has no intrinsic value or meaning any longer. Without investment, there can be no return. On a lighter note…. There’s no way in hell I would spend $100+ on a little plastic jewel case with a shiny little silver disc inside. 😜 😂
I'm 57 and grew up with vinyl. When CDs came out, it was a few years before I could afford a CD player. Tubular Bells and DSOTM were the first CDs I bought! I started to replace vinyl with CD, but then stopped as I realised it was a stupid thing to do. I wasn't bothered that vinyl was in decline at that time. Sad at the thought it may disappear, but as there has been a resurgence, it's a double edged sword, in that my small collection is worth a damn site more, but the cost of vinyl is ridiculous now! I'm with you on the "who cares what media you listen to music on". Just enjoy it!
Me too, I had a huge collection that I started in the 70's that I gave away to family and friends when I joined the Marine Corps in '83, some of those would be worth a pretty penny today.
Beatles albums are hard to find, perhaps because they aren't on spotify. I'm looking for George Harrison's 'All things must pass', White Album and Sgt Pepper.
I was thinking who is crazy enough to pay that much for a CD and I looked over at the table and saw that package of 8 PCGS Silver Dimes I just bought on Ebay. Yep we all have our weaknesses 😆 🤣. Thanks for sharing and take care ✌️ 🤘
That is a question for the audiophiles, I can't say that I've noticed any difference. Remixes and remasters I guess would be a personal thing, I like the originals myself for the most part.
Not all! I had a Jane's Addiction vinyl bootleg removed from ebay as it breached their selling code! I've reported loads of bootlegs, but they don't get taken down, so I'm not sure how they stay for sale. It's a bit like youtubers not playing music for fear of copyright strike, but thousands of video uploads of music that doesn't!
why would the original lineup of priest sign a cd that they did not play on? there's not a single current member of that band that was even in the original lineup.
That's one of my pet peeves also, why would anyone want someone's signature on something that they had nothing to do with creating. I don't get it, but then again, a lot of people have no clue and pay big bucks to see bands with one or even none of the original members on the stage, go figure.
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock besides the fact that Ernie Chataway, the original guitarist for priest, died before firepower was even released. i don't get it either. i refused to see megadeth after nick n marty. would not see slayer after dave and jeff. no metallica after jason. no aic after layne. i did see priest right after k.k. left but k.k. was getting sloppy anyways and richie shreds every bit as good, maybe better.
And this is just for rock CDs, I’ve sold some expensive jazz CDs for over $200, and a buddy of mine sold a rare G-Funk CD to a buyer in Japan years back for close to $2K ! There’s some spendy CDs out there.
Anyone else looking at this collect Hi Res format like SA-CD ? In my 25 years of collecting I only know of the person who introduced it to me and the people who have bought from me.
If you included BOX SETS, my passion is for POST PUNK BOX SETS. 1. Comstat Angels ITs HISTORY (their Polidor LPS and rarities disc) $600.00...boss came in; Gotta Go
That Judas Priest CD was not signed by the original band. The original lineup had KK Downing. I think Ian Hill is the only remay original member. Even Halford wasn't the original singer but would give him a pass since no other singer has been on their albums
I don’t understand why CDs have not done well in sales. I might get it if you are very good about making back ups of all your music. That is in case your devices crash and you can’t retrieve. I don’t trust myself on always backing up my music. If I buy a CD not only I get a original cover but the music which I just upload and put it away. Any problems down the road no problem. I have a basically brand new CD to fix the lose without having to purchase again! If the younger generation can explain why they don’t prefer buying the CD please respond. Not joking I am only wondering because maybe I am missing something you may know. Thanks
I'd be interested in reading any responses to your question also, David. I started out as a vinyl collector in the 70's and built up a huge collection. In '83, I joined the Marine Corps and I couldn't take it with me, so I gave them away to family and friends. I started collecting CDs in the 80's and never looked back. I always enjoyed all of the perks of CDs when it came to portability, durability and smaller storage requirements. Now that I've got well over 6000 CDs, I'm not about to jump back on the vinyl bandwagon for finance sake alone. I also pay for streaming, but it's mainly because that's what my kids like, but I do use it.
To be honest, all but AC-DC Powerage are special editions in some way and not standard copies. I keep hoping to find Australian copies of AC-DC cds in charity shops, but you have to trawl through hundreds of copies of Take That, Aled Jones, Spice Girls etc! Still, I'll keep looking!
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock The show I saw was the show that was cut short due to the Thunderstorm and the ensuing Riot in Tampa Stadium. But I did get to see them at least for like 4 songs anyway. But what really makes me jealous is she also seen Jimi Hendrix T.Rex and Elvis at different shows in the old Curtis Hixon Hall in Downtown Tampa. I assume it depends on where you live. Where I live many stores and many people (including myself) give away CDs for free. I had a store reject Prince, Eric Clapton, AC/DC and Pink Floyd CDs when I tried to sell them so after I put the songs I like into my iTunes library I either put the CDs into local book boxes on the street or I put them into plastic bags and leave them on top of the recycling bins at the park.
They don't have to be expensive. I bought my Pro-Ject Debut III second hand for less than a decent CD player. I chose to upgrade my stylus, (when I got a gift card to use), and it's not a bad turntable. Yes, you can pay way more, but that's a choice one can make. Plus, it's a damn site easier to maintain! When a CD player breaks, it's either an expensive repair or it becomes landfill! I have both vinyl and CDs. Some albums have never been released on vinyl, (yet) and I've grown up with the foibles of vinyl, so for me, I switch between the two.
I didn't back then, but I find them all the time for around that price at record stores, but I've noticed lately that they too are starting to creep up in price.
Had no idea they played Jersey. By 1980, you would have had to pay me to go see Rush in concert. I saw them when they were great and the very first tour!! Most of you guys didn’t even here of them until they were done with metal, 2112. Never got to see Guy. You are lucky. Saw them in ‘81 and the Riot Live was 6 songs and Guy was not on that album, sorry. I have the original ep., or did until I sold all My vinyl and bought a brand new Caddy!
So that’s why this guy has a 100 cd loose lot of rock cds on eBay price started at 99 cents and now bid is up to 80.. and the first cd that’s up top is Iron Maiden!

I've been collecting for over 20 years...I have over 2500...I have rare stuff signed too...BUY CDS..🎸🇬🇧🤘🇬🇧🤘🇬🇧🤘🎸🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🤘🇬🇧
Thanks for sharing, SBR! It's CDs for me too, I need to get an official count of how many I have, but it's somewhere around 6,000 and growing 🤘🤘
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock that's amazing..I counted a good few years ago and buy 2-3 cds a week now 🎸🤘🇬🇧🎸🎸🎸👍
Wow. I've got most of these albums for a £ or for free from bootleg sites.
Subbed
I have so many cd's still. I didn't know they had any worth to them.
And what do they have in common? Metal still rules!
People have the right to set whatever price for their CDs, but people also have the right to avoid being ripped off by those fxxkers. I am a Japanese but didn’t know some of the Japanese version CDs can fetch a lot of money.
I got that 3 disc Deep Purple set at a great record store in Brookfield Ct. for 25 bucks about 5 years ago.
That's an awesome price for sure!
What do you use to see these sales ?
I searched for completed transactions on ebay
I have an autographed copy of Great White's "Can't Get There From Here"....any bidders🙂? Cool list man - cds are still one of my favorite mediums for music!
Is it on ebay, Jules, if so what's your profile name on there?
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock Naaa....you DID make me go downstairs and look at all my cds though😂. My wife (girlfriend at the time) went down to Manifest Disc in Charlotte while I was working and bought the cd and had them sign it. One of the coolest things ever...wish I had met the band, lol. You brought back a great memory, my dude🙂. Keep rocking!
@@jules-yi8rn LOL, it's time to play it again now 🤣🤘
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock 😂
I have all those on 8 Track Tape except the thin Lizzy Rush n Maiden, Why do I need the CD
Keep in mind that the LED ZEPPELIN - ARC OF THE COVENANT is an 18 CD set.
In 1989 I bought and still have two AC/DC boxed sets.
I have a CD copy of Back In Black which I AM NOT SELLING signed by Angus Young and Brian Johnson.Any idea what its worth ?
2 out of 5 is pretty good for the autograph factor alone. Did they sign the booklet, the disc or the jewel case, the booklet is better, the jewel case is the least wanted and also is the CD booklet and disc in good shape? If, so, easily it's worth between $400 and $800. Of course, if you had Malcolm also on there it'd go for over $1,000 🤘
That's fantastic mate hang on to it don't worry its worth a lot very cool rock n roll and up the irons!! Maiden manic🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🌟🎶✨✨✨
Nice to see its classic rock era stuff and not garbage. Keep on rockin!
I wonder what the original Electra release of Queen's Greatest Hits with Under Pressure on it would go for?
I think the most expensive one we've sold was Macho Man by Randy Savage. Went around $75 if I remember correctly.
I'll have to check the prices of my MFSO and SACD CDs 🤟
I got Rainbow 1976 album Rising on CD 💿. 😀👍🎸🤘
note that not all listings were actually sold but ended by the seller instead. means that some were asking prizes!
or possibly accepted the make an offer option which means that they also went for less.
I must say, these folks buying have good taste! Rock on!
I have the Deep purple live in Japan box set only paid £12 for it .
You scored on that one 🤘
you should look up 80s thrash metal slayer, testament, overkill, manowar etc all has high values on there first pressing
I wish that I still had a lot of the records that I used to own. I’m sure that they would bring me some money on eBay.
Me too, I had a huge collection that I started in the 70's that I gave away to family and friends when I joined the Marine Corps in '83, some of those would be worth a pretty penny today.
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock Yes, this is the same sad story that many of us have concerning our 60's baseball cards too.
Beatles albums are hard to find, perhaps because they aren't on spotify.
I'm looking for George Harrison's 'All things must pass', White Album and Sgt Pepper.
I’m wanting to get a Beatles mono box set but most out there are fakes.
Cd's are still amazing. Easyier to store and you don't have to flip it over every 15 mins like vinyl.
Get a record stacker play 4 or 5 album sides at the push of a button..u can listen both ways
And it doesn't skip or scratch.
I was thinking who is crazy enough to pay that much for a CD and I looked over at the table and saw that package of 8 PCGS Silver Dimes I just bought on Ebay. Yep we all have our weaknesses 😆 🤣. Thanks for sharing and take care ✌️ 🤘
LOL, yep, the curse of the collector, I definitely have it in my DNA 🤣🤘
it is like Dejavu for those that were around before we had CD's .... I'm stuck in Hard Copy mode .... LOL@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock
❤yeah legend
Do first pressings matter for CDs sound quality wise?
That is a question for the audiophiles, I can't say that I've noticed any difference. Remixes and remasters I guess would be a personal thing, I like the originals myself for the most part.
How did that led zep get sold.. they usually ban bootlegs..
I have Grace Under Pressure but not Japanese pressing. A friend has a gold pressing of Pyromania.
People are crazy
why would the original lineup of priest sign a cd that they did not play on? there's not a single current member of that band that was even in the original lineup.
There’s some spendy CDs out there.
i honestly hate that other people are collecting cds because i have to pay more sometimes to get what i want. also lp records.
YES YES YES, totally agree
Got the DP 3 disc for $40 bucks in 1988
Anyone else looking at this collect Hi Res format like SA-CD ?
Buy them up while you can.. I'm seeing stores pop up.
I still like CD'S. 😀👍💿
I have a copy of Led Zeppelin Live imprinted in my brain from when I saw them in 1977 for $10 it’s not for sale.
Nice! One of my big regrets is not having seen Zep 🤘
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock The show I saw was the show that was cut short due to the Thunderstorm and the ensuing Riot in Tampa Stadium. But I did get to see them at least for like 4 songs anyway. My Wife likes to remind me She was at the 1973 show in Tampa to experience the full show. But what really makes me jealous is she also seen Jimi Hendrix T.Rex and Elvis at different shows in the old Curtis Hixon Hall in Downtown Tampa. I like to tell her she was a Lucky Little Hippie Girl!
@@lastchild6153 You're wife saw some great shows. I didn't go to the show that you went to that was cut short but growing up in Bradenton, I definitely remember the news the next day about the riot, it was on TV news and front page of the newspaper.
Wounded bird label routinely sell between 100-200 on ebay.
CD's are the way to go , no need to buy expensive turntables, needles etc
Truth!
Did anyone buy 20 or 30 $5 cds from Walmart when they downsized cd sections a few years ago I did now some of same ones are$7 to$9
I didn't back then, but I find them all the time for around that price at record stores, but I've noticed lately that they too are starting to creep up in price.
I ran into alot of poor service on eBay, becarefull ❤
Had no idea they played Jersey. By 1980, you would have had to pay me to go see Rush in concert. I saw them when they were great and the very first tour!! Most of you guys didn’t even here of them until they were done with metal, 2112. Never got to see Guy. You are lucky. Saw them in ‘81 and the Riot Live was 6 songs and Guy was not on that album, sorry. I have the original ep., or did until I sold all
My vinyl and bought a brand new Caddy!
So that’s why this guy has a 100 cd loose lot of rock cds on eBay price started at 99 cents and now bid is up to 80.. and the first cd that’s up top is Iron Maiden!
I new that would happen I paid 70 dollars for a few cds already.
These are all limited run collectors versions of course. The standard versions of most of these are still plentiful and cheap.
I listen to my CDs and my classic vynel records I love to spin on my turntable! I love the physical ownership and not this smartphone and log on crap!
Me too, Vincent 🤘
Play all this KEXP
I get most of my cds at wal-mart.
