Love the video but damn it made me feel old (OK I am old at 71). My best mate and I used to fish a little river, maybe a bit bigger than this but not by a lot...for Chub. It was called The Mease on the east side of Tamworth at Netherseal. This was 40-50 years ago. We caught mainly Chub like this. If you had 3 in a session you'd done well. All the same tactics...solo and sneaking around 🙂 We tried it again 3 years ago..its rubbish now. Overgrown and a lot of it fenced off and we believe it got polluted a few years ago. Going to send this video to my mate, I bet he'll feel the same nostalgia as I do. Thanks Alex, really enjoyed this. Oh and salute to the Spifire, my favourite ww2 plane.

Im so glad that you enjoyed it. As you say, It is such a shame how many of our smaller waterways have fallen by the wayside. Thankfully, in this instance, the landowners have undertaken some quite intense restoration work to bring this stretch back to somewhere close to what it once was. Although it doesn't contain a fraction of the fish it once did, I'm hopeful that they may return 👍🎣

Wonderful Alex. That made my heart sing. A perfect slice of England & natures beauty. Coupled with man made perfection in the air & why we should never give the former away. Tight lines

I completely agree. Thankfully, this and the adjacent wealden valleys act as flood plains, which hopefully will be enough to keep the developers at bay 👍🎣

Great video. I sometimes fish the Dudwell/Willingford stream for trout in Dallington forest. The stretches through Batemans look good but I think controlled by Burwash angling. I want to check the downstream sections towards Etchingham at some point. There are a few nice streams in the area and this video reminds me a bit of the river Line around the A21 but that is very over grown.

Thanks - this stretch is just above Etchingham. It is under the control of the Burwash club, although they tend to focus most of their efforts on the stretches up towards Batemans. Luckily, a long standing relationship with the landowners afford me a degree of access 👍🎣

Not the same to look at but reminded me of childhood days on a tiny forgotten Cambridgeshire chalk stream early 80s

I think that is the allure of these diminutive rivers - they rekindle memories of simpler times 👍🎣
