  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2019 Audi Q8 is the brand's all-new flagship - a more stylish five-passenger alternative to the three-row Q7. Is it the best SUV Audi has built? Nathan dives into the styling, its interior features and, most importantly, the Quattro all-wheel drive system of this $88,000 crossover.

The Audi Q8 is the company's strategy to have a crossover counterpart to their flagship A8 sedan just in case the market suddenly shifts to everything crossover.

Anyone who buys the Q7 will not take them off-road for rock crawling or something similar. The 22's work. It gives this vehicle a proper stance. People will buy lesser vehicles if they want to do any off-roading.

There were a couple of functional issues. Firstly, the 3 litre VW group diesel has a shocker of a turbo lag which apparently cannot be improved or eradicated and secondly, the emergency brake is aggressive and cannot be turned off (unlike on other premium SUVs). Every time I reversed down my (admittedly steep) drive it arrested the car with a sickening jolt because the system thought it wouldn’t cope with the camber. On a couple of other occasions it nearly caused an accident. And then there were issues with the service centre who were unable to properly connect up the trailer braking unit, twice set up the voice activation system for a left hand drive vehicle, and could never fix the screens that kept going blank. They refused to respond to my phone enquiries checking on their progress with these and other issues. The biggest issue though was the build quality, especially the multiple annoying creaks and rattles and in particular, one which came from the roof. Audi had three attempts to locate this and eventually tracked it down to a structural fault in the way the roof had been fitted with the Sun-roof. At this point I gave up. I have a three tonne boat and can’t afford to be using a tow vehicle that has, or may have had, structural problems. My experience was unfortunate. I ended up with a lemon and a dealer who didn’t care. This doesn’t mean that Audi are bad cars but you can appreciate why I got rid when I did. Hope this helps.

  • @ittimjones
    @ittimjones ปีที่แล้ว

After 3 months of ownership, I have a couple complaints.
    1) The shifter is stupid. It doesn't stay in the physical position that you put it in, so it's size is pointless. It's forward for reverse and backwards for drive, also dumb.
    2) The owners manual only has fuel tank size on the capacities page. That's it. It doesn't tell u anything about engine (firing order, bore, stroke, power), oil (weight or capacity), transmission (fluid type or gear ratios), tires (size or pressure). It seriously pisses me off. The only way I know what kind of oil to put in the car is from a sticker under the hood.
    3) Seat memory doesn't work 100%. It's supposed to move the side mirrors, the steering wheel, and all the seat positions. It moves the mirror and wheel a little, but not all the way, and it misses some of the seat settings like lumbar (which just doesn't change at all).
    4) Adaptive cruise control is pretty cool, but the road attention warning doesn't make sense. If you are driving and on the correct path or on a straight, you won't need to move the wheel at all. The car thinks you're not paying attention if you don't make an input in like a 5 second duration, so on a straight, you will actually have to turn the wheel to let the car know to keep you in the lane. It makes you a worse driver... Unless you have violent hand shakes.
    5) maintenance seems a bit of a challenge, but not a deal breaker. Audi seems to try to make it hard for me to work on it from home, but they also know most of the "mechanics" working on cars these days are dingbats. So they just make things look difficult to work on.
All in, it's a great car. I know it's safe. Power figures feel under-stated. It's plenty fast. Handling feels like a small sedan, not a large SUV. I think it'll last a long time.

Hey Nathan! Fun video. You are clearly excited by this vehicle and it is nice seeing that! Very cool!
The first moment before I recognized the vehicle in the thumbnail, the first thought I had was Toyota Venza,,,,,, In my case, that isn’t a bad thing, I actually like the Venza, especially when it was first released. If I want to go off-roading, I have a truck, might get a 4Runner instead because I am not going to need a truck in the future. This is the vehicle I would go on vacation in, go to the city in and feel totally pampered and safe. I live in snow country and often go out regardless of the weather, because I am comfortable in bad weather. The winter tire set up would be much different, of course. Many of you are right! I would never go off-roading in this. It would not be why I bought it, at all! I wouldn’t buy it, or a Venza because they don’t otherwise suit me. I will admire these every time I se one though.
Thanks again Nathan. No need to go off-road, we know almost no one would and Audi is just giving in to the pressure to offer everything to every one. I’m cool with that. You did a really good job identifying the pros and cons. Please stay safe, you and the team, Eh.

I don’t even like the super short side walls that come with all these huge rims for winter driving.... I had a Crown Vic with 215/R70 tires. A reasonably heavy car, right? If you pushed that car hard enough in a corner to side shift a tire your passenger would be asking you if you are mentally stable. Those older tires rode better, transmitted less impacts to the bearings, dealt with pot holes better, and were better on ice even for non winter tires. Journalists have wrecked this aspect of cars in favor of race track handling, I drive roads to work not race tracks, and “style” should be a fantastic implementation of functionality for the most common uses. Remember when cars didn’t have AC and you could crack the window in the rain and not get wet? 4x60 AC didn’t blow into the side of your head like a leaf blower.. with one window down the vehicle didn’t turn into a pipe organ and you’re inside it. Granted they do perform a lot better than the 80’s cars especially when the smog equipment was new to the industry. Camrys bragged about 156 HP backing the 90’s, I think. The 87 TBird only had 150-155 (302 & turbo 2.3) so there’s is that and the improvements in rear heat and cooling ABS.. but still with all those really good things how did they screw up tires?

@@BigInjun05 I figured you hadn't because that's a typical response my wife felt the same way she only wanted a V8 until she drove this. The other cars we tested were a GLE 63 Range, Rover Sport SC, BMW x5m BMW X7 and GLS 63. Out of all of those the Q8 had the most room and the best balance. X5m and Range Rover SC would be perfect if the back add more room. I can go on and on but honestly you have to drive it before you say it's not enough power because we felt the same way and felt differently after driving one

@@BigInjun05 I will give it to you tho, Idk how the Lincoln Aviator Black Label slipped my mind. I have sat in everything from Bentley's to Rolls-Royce to Lambos to Range Rovers you name it and the new Lincoln's have the best most comfortable interior I've ever been in. Avatar would be a solid choice but would still be 85k-88k so at that point it's more about brand preference IMO. I will say tho that all these 5 row SUVs are not equal room. As i said before the x5m has WAY 2 row space than a Q8

TO ME , THE Q8 IS A BIT " BACKWARDS AS FAR AS THE DIMENSIONS ARE CONCERNED. THE LOOK OF IT IS IN FACT , " VERY BOLD " IN PERSON; BUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT LEAST AS LONG AS THE Q7 WITH MORE SECOND ROW LEG ROOM , AS TALL AS THE Q7 IF NOT TALLER , AND CERTAINLY AS WIDE AS THE BMW X5 IF NOT A LITTLE WIDER . THE WHEELS TO ME ARE " MEAN " IN APPEARANCE AS SO IS THE LOOK OF THE BODY. AUDI SHOULD HAVE MADE THIS VEHICLE BIGGER THEN THE Q7 SINCE IT IS THE Q8; THEN IT WOULD HAVE CERTAINLY BEEN AUDI'S " FLAGSHIP.

I can't believe people are giving this a thumbs up. The real elephant in the room is that this is just a shitty Q7 which itself is a silly vehicle. A A 'sexy' rear end? A Golf would have a more useful hatch area. Say it with me - there is nothing sexy about yet another crossover, no matter how much you extinguish any slim possibility of being actually useful. The damn ass end is what screwed up the e-Tron as well - supposed 'style'for the idiots that made it a non starter for people that need a vehicle for more than impressing their idiot friends.
