Nothing could be better than Beyond The Valley of the Dolls and John Waters.

Two of my favorites, John Waters and Lynn Carey!

Outrageous how hard this album was to get in the 80s. I paid 80 dollars and it was so buckled it wouldn't play. When I took it back they told me the album normally went for $200. It should have been a mainstream smash hit. Lynn Carey is awesome

This is one of my favorite movies ever and one of the best American musicals in the history of American cinema. It deserves more credit than being a "cult classic." I loved John Waters' take on why this was so great (who could speak to this more credibly?). Lynn Carey was an amazing vocalist. When I think "Queen of Wands" in tarot, that's Lynn. :-)

John Waters, right on, as usual. It amazes me that people will LOVE Austen Powers, yet totally diss BVD, if they even ever heard of it! I too love Austen Powers, but without BVD as a cinematic record, that franchise may not even exist! Mike Meyers even quotes Z-man word for word during the opening party scene in Spy Who Shagged Me!

The quote was actually said in Austin Powers 1. Spy who shagged me was movie 2!! ^^

@@kunoichi24... john lazar, the actor who muttered those immortal words, says he's so connected to that one phrase it wouldn't surprise him if the put the quote on his tombstone.

This soundtrack is a desert island disc IMO. Stu Phillips + Lynn Carey = perfection

Yes, great movie excellent soundtrack. I would be happy just to watch a film of the edited out bits, which have long been swept away I presume.

russ meyer is one of my favorite directors. the term "sex and violence" had to have been coined in reference to russ.
but this isn't his best film. actually i am quite impressed with the quality of the music in this film. its not only better but more authentic than the psuedo-rock used on tv and in many studio productions. and the strawberry alarm clock makes an appearence singing "incense and peppermints." and speaking of sound design meyer used the 20th century fox theme in a murder scene. how he got away with that i'll never know.
although all his films have a unique style and are fun to watch i prefer meyer's later period to his earlier period. "harry, cherry and raquel,' "supervixen." "up" and "beneath the valley of the ultra-vixens" are my favorites.

John Waters should have directed this movie.

I saw the movie for the first time in '74, and it was campy THEN! All those competing genres looking for a home. Give Meyer a super big budget, and that's what you got-- crazy, undisciplined film making. Just Edy Williams alone did enough over-acting to justify the Russ Meyer production quality.
