      Just a note on iodine. It's good to keep your body topped up because nuclear warfare would result in radioactive iodine isotopes in the air. If you are topped up your body will remove any you absorb instead of holding on to it causing thyroid issues.

      @@merediths216 When followed correctly ketosis can be an efficient and healthy way for allot of people to loose weight and it can help with some health conditions like epilepsy. There is a difference between dietary ketosis and ketoacidosis. What happens with diabetic patients is ketoacidosis. Ketoacidosis happens when someone has a health condition that puts their body into overdrive of ketones that makes them produce dangerous levels of ketones. Dietary ketosis does not produce enough ketones to cause a dangerous effect nor can it ever. Ketoacidosis happens from health condition or abnormality . Keto does not exclude random things but specific things like starches and grains. Contrary to popular belief it is not carb free. We do consume carbs they are just from berries, and non starchy vegetable sources. I don't think everyone should eat keto though nor it is for everyone. But it can and does have positive effects on the bodies and health of many people.

      @@boots7859 As someone who used to be homeless living in my vehicle with two small children because I escaped an abusive relationship - stop judging people when you have zero idea of their circumstances. I had a Lexus but I had been granted use of it (not ownership, just use) by the courts. So I had no choice but to drive THAT car and I was literally spat on at a food bank because someone saw me getting in it and decided they knew that I was using the system. Again I was h o m e l e s s and living in it with two small children, we were on a waiting list to get into the local domestic violence shelter but I had nowhere else to go and I couldn't help that I just happened to have a nice car *that I couldn't sell because it wasn't mine.*. And trust me, this situation may not be common but it's not as UNcommon as people think.
      The same with steaks - food stamps roll over. When I was homeless and then in the DV shelter I saved $20 from my food stamps every single month so that when holidays and birthdays came around I could splurge on nicer things to feel "normal" and not always have to think about how I was in such a bad situation. I had people at the store giving me crap for buying cupcakes with my EBT (they were for my kids' birthdays), for buying thanksgiving dinner with it, and for buying a steak *for my birthday*. I had to plan months ahead to be sure those things happened just for a sense of normalcy. Stop perpetuating the idea that poor people can't have or don't deserve nice things just because they're poor.
      Actual poor people are tired of the judgement. I'm very lucky to have pulled myself out of that, but it was thanks to a lot of luck that happened in my life to put me on a better path - not everyone has that kind of privelege.

    Dollar Tree and Dollar General stores have created these "marketplace" stores in different parts of the country, especially in some places called food deserts; it's a real blessing. I find that they have whole, natural foods, even fresh vegetables and fruits - it's incredible! Thanks to their new marketing strategy and products, and in my humble opinion, people of all incomes can now eat and provide their loved ones with much healthier meals, and that's vital to their health. :)

Often they have thawed and refrozen in shipping and when that happens they taste awful. They have mixed berries that are good and there is always pizza sauce without sugar added in jar. I stock up on olives there as well.

      @@jamienonemaker9015 I would choose the albacore over the the canned tuna, the albacore is solid, the regular canned is soupy, I forgot they often have tuna in a packet and that is solid as well. I don't eat fish often much anymore knowing their high fat content "stores" toxins. Overall it is a great place to shop for essentials like laundry, dish soap, cleaning supplies, storage bags, garbage bags, containers, batteries those all can be pricey, buying there will allow you to save some money so you can buy fresh veggies or better quality frozen elsewhere.

      @@divinediva_ ...while it’s true that some good Keto-friendly recipes can be produced using DT products...there is not a popular Keto vlogger that prepares recipes & meal plans using primarily DT products (let alone consuming them on a regular basis).
      My challenge was issued to these two major Keto vloggers to walk the talk and SHOW people who may need (or consider using) DT products to produce and CONSUME the products they are recommending.
      There are many people who would like to try this, but would be interested in seeing these guys actually eat the food before spending their money on food that they would end up throwing away. I know when I consider trying any consumable at DT, whether food, shampoo, soap, etc, I always check out TH-cam first for the people brave enough to be DT product crash dummies before I buy it. The dollars really add up that you save on not purchasing useless junk from Dollar Tree.

    Thomas you are such an incredible educator and teacher. You are better than any of my college professors in the way of teaching, caring, enthusiasm, and compassion. You are my hero. I have struggled with my weight for many years and it got worse in 2007 when I had my thyroid removed. It changed my life for the worse and I have been gaining weight ever since and have gone through depression because of it. I am new to keto but not new to fasting since I come from a church that has fasted for years for spiritual benefits. However, I always hated it because it seemed it would reek havoc on my metabolism, losing some weight but gaining back 3-fold. Now, I am starting to learn more about fasting and trying to undo all the things I did wrong before due to lack of knowledge. Thank you so much for helping those of us who need it. It looks like a whole new world is opening up for me and I just want to thank you for caring and making such awesome educational videos on fasting and the keto lifestyle. You are such a blessing! Keep up the good work, it's helping so many people. I asked God to help me and here you are. Tears of joy!

    Hate to burst the Dollar Tree bubble on their canned tuna and salmon, but in my experience, their Sunny Sea brand of salmon looks like cat food -- but what do you expect from "wild caught" salmon from China. Instead, buy canned wild caught ALASKAN salmon (also says "product of USA") from Aldi, for under $3 for a 15-oz can! As for tuna, from my recent experience, Bumble Bee and other name brands are usually half water, and low quality. Instead, buy the 4-pack of Great Value brand canned tuna at Walmart. It's almost always great quality, and more packed, with less water weight.
    For canned pumpkin, again get it at Aldi -- just 85 cents and it's not from China, from what I can recall. And for a little more, you can get Coco Planet brand organic coconut milk (with no added gums) at your local supermarket for just 3 for $4 or $5, can't remember which -- but either way, it's cheaper than all other organic coconut milk brands, and always good quality.

    FYI: Any NATURALLY pickled items are always in the refrigerated section. Shelf stable pickled items are usually made with a 'vinegar brine,' so don't have the same live probiotics that naturally fermented will. Naturally fermented needs to be cold stored to slow down the fermentation process, to remain edible longer.

    My local dollar tree’s have the Lowreys bacon curls “microwave” pork rinds on the end caps in what looks like popcorn bags, they are so amazing I will never eat pre-popped bagged pork rinds again.

    So true on the coconut oil. Both my parents suffer with high cholesterol even my mom who works out every day, stays insanely active & closely watches everything she eats, she got hit with genetics. I convinced them both to start their day with a half tsp of unrefined organic coconut oil & both of their bad cholesterol has decreased & their good choices has increased.

    Literally sat in front of dollar general watching this vid to see what to buy for lunch and came out with wild caught salmon laughing cow light cheese and some popcorners with sea salt. I'm not on keto but just trying to eat healthier and save some money. I spent $6.35 on lunch. Thank you for doing this.

    I've been shilling for frozen vegetables for YEARS. Food advocates whine about "fresh fruits and vegetables" but you don't need it. Too expensive, too perishable, and you have to clean them, cut them, and cook them. Get the frozen every time.

      does it matter if its organic or not?

    • @seanconnolly2179
      @seanconnolly2179 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@firmbeliever3847 yes organic is best, however it depends on the vegetables for example broccoli 🥦 and coliflower and asparagus and some others don’t need to be organic or so I’ve heard.

      Frozen is often better..take corn..it is much sweeter frozen.

      Much less trimming waste, etc. - with frozen you use everything you get; I've also heard that they can rotate the trimmings into other things when they process the veggies for freezing.

      While I don't get frozen "every time," I most certainly do buy and eat them frequently. Nothing can replace a good, crisp salad loaded with fresh veggies, so I just do the chopping, etc., as I need to, without whining.

    In a world of fake everything, I'm questioning the integrity of food labels. I'm talking about false advertising of Organic products when they are not really, exaggerated nutriments claims and in this case, the "Wild Salmon", for $1. We have to ask ourselves... How strict are the food regulation and compliance requirements, how often are food tested and are fines high enough to be a deterrent.

    • @MaraschinoChary
      @MaraschinoChary 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The Salmon label says “Product of China”.
      That pretty well tells you everything you need to know.

      So... are you arguing for paying less and hoping for the best? Or do you beleive that paying more for quality? If you don't trust "labels" just curious how you shop, and what you trust. Do you apply the same logic at whole foods? I am not trying to be a dick... I buy organic foods, and I buy budget foods and mix them together. Just curious...
