Brand new FDNY Tiller Ladder 175 responds to Box 1991....AGAIN!

  • About 10 minutes after FDNY Tiller Ladder 175 got back from responding to Box 1991 for a stuck elevator, they got toned out again to the same box, for the same exact problem. Apparently, the person who had been using the elevator in the self storage facility got stuck in the elevator again and needed to get let out. This time, apparently, the person was found to be EDP, possibly because of being trapped in the elevator for a second time, and was transported to the hospital. As Yogi Berra would say, "It's deja vu all over again." Anyway, Tiller Ladder 175 is a brand new 2016 Seagrave Marauder II tractor with a Seagrave trailer and a 100 foot mid-mount ladder. Enjoy the response. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on November 22nd, 2016.

      If it was a self-storage facility, maybe it was a freight elevator and the person was carrying stuff up or down and the stairs just weren't practicle.

    A “box” in the FDNY designates a specific location ie. a street corner.
    Members are familiar with their first due boxes.

      Am I mistaken, or is that a holdover to the days when pull boxes were still the main method of alerting the fire department?

    Seems they took a good long while to get ready. Some stations can get their suits on and get in the truck in a third of that time. But other than that, great video, and awesome truck!

    • @gocoastgaurd721
      @gocoastgaurd721 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This was for a known BS call. They had already been to this address once. Honestly, this longer turnout time is still better than volunteer departments because the vollies have to get to the station before they can even roll a truck.

    • @Chris-jv7im
      @Chris-jv7im 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      291xMac Might have been faster than a volley company, but it's slow for paid ffs, especially for the famed ffs of FDNY. Even BS calls have turned out to be true after the second and third call every now and then

    • @gocoastgaurd721
      @gocoastgaurd721 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Christopher C I agree we should be striving to get out the door as soon as possible. But for a known BS call like this one there's really no need to turn on overdrive. They were going to somebody trapped in an elevator. There is really no immediate life danger.

      291xMac I feel the same.At first I was wondering what the heck was taking so long,then I read the descriptions,I'd have joked and drug my feet to.one of the reasons I left the fire service was I was damned tired of running medical aids just to give some jackass some aspirin,of course we didn't do that,give it to them,but AMR would have to transport for no reason.

    Guys are wearing shorts in November? Is that common, or are some members just not bothered by weather? Also, are trucks with tiller seats making a comeback? It seems to me that they'd be really helpful in places, like NYC with tighter streets and heavy traffic.

    • @Stargazzer811
      @Stargazzer811 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Partly its because they need to be able to just slip into their gear and go, and shorts are easier to do that with then pants. Also, this is NYC. Like us in the Midwest, if you're born there you know the cold and have a better tolerance to it then most other people. I can walk outside in 20 degrees for 5 sometimes 10 minutes in jeans and a t-shirt and only be chilly.

    Just a question from a uk lad, why do US trucks always have so many light on ? Is it traditional?

    • @gocoastgaurd721
      @gocoastgaurd721 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Because unlike the UK, our drivers are apparently blind and can't see a firetruck stopped on the road, not to mention they never move when we are going down it. As evidenced last month by a neighboring department of mine getting their engine hit on the highway while it was parked AT NIGHT WITH ALL THE LIGHTS ON!

    • @SpartacusColo
      @SpartacusColo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it's indicative of our society: anytime the slightest thing goes wrong, someone insists that there MUST be something to be done about it. Each time a rig gets hit by a moron driver, or whenever we see someone not paying attention and not pulling over, the answer? Put more lights on the truck! If you look at "traditional" rigs, you will see very few lights. So, definitely not a tradition.

    Why a tiller for a elevator like that could be used more somewhere else

    • @JakeLunceford
      @JakeLunceford 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ItsOwenInHD In most places (I believe in NYC too) they'll dispatch either the closest unit (which this might be the closest), or in other areas the Truck crew has more training for rescuing out of spaces such as elevators (and the tiller just happened to be the closest truck to that call. I've seen tillers go to medical calls before just because they're the closest.

    I'm a little surprised that these guys use lights and sirens coming out of the house at night. It looked dark and late. Those people across the street probably have a hard time sleeping. I'd think they'd wait until they get to the first major cross street before turning on the lights and sirens. Especially given that they aren't running that fast anyway on these narrow city streets. In my area we have quiet zones where use lights but no sirens except for major thoroughfare. Good video and much respect o the FDNY.

      for a stuck elevator call it doesn't really matter, not a high risk emergency so no reason to rush. most city departments other than deny don't really even respond emergency for such low priority stuff
