What a great channel. I wanted to be a truck driver leaving school in 79/80. As a paperboy my route was a main trunk route, loved the trucks. Atkinsons were my fav. Some how I ended up on a total tangent career wise and never got to drive lorries.
Modern lorries are a bit dull these days so these vids bring back good memories.

2:27 My father now 78 drove for Astran and independently in his DAF 2800 to the middle east way back in the 70’s. He’d be away for 6-7 weeks at a time. No power steering and a huge aircon unit fixed to the roof, he drove this route for several years.

I really prefer the older trucks to the majority of what I see on the road these days 💔
Really love that palm tree shot also. Great presentation!

The older trucks look great from the outside but when you're on the inside with the noise, vibration and lack of power you'd soon get dissalutioned

Great video, I'd have liked to do some of that work in the 70s but there was none on offer out of Ireland

I thought I had memories of the Irish Hauliers running all over Europe in the 70s and even as far as far as Dubai.

@@sirmartinfrobisher we'd run all over Europe in the 70s but not middle East. I only know of two who went to the middle East one time but I'm sure they loaded out of UK.

I have a memory of a cabover petebilt in the early 80s which ran from tipperary ireland to pakistan hauling construction equipment.i also saw a restored 142 at a show which ran from ireland to mongolia.the owner also had pics of the truck at the border with china.

Τα διαμάντια που άφησαν εποχή δεν ξανά παίρναμε αυτές οι σκληρές εποχές και οι οδηγοί που το έλεγε η καρδιά τους

It was more disaster management than driving and all for £20.00 a week hills are green far away. 🇮🇪

I wonder what the working life was for these Middle East trucks ?
