Great days in the shed. What a team we had. Just loved recalling those days with the muddy pitches and hard tackling. Not sure many of the players of today could have handled it.
This was my first game, shortly after my seventh birthday. I assume my father chose Chelsea because it was nearer to home, because he was an armchair Arsenal supporter. A few days before he asked he who I would support. Well it was obvious wasn't it? Chelsea were the glamour team of the day, they were already in the FA Cup final, all my friends supported them. 'Tottenham,' said I. We lost, of course, and I've been stuck with them ever since.
I was about two months old when this game was played. I really enjoy the hard, generally fair, tackling common in this era. Even flair players like Osgood and Gilzean didn't shirk a tackle.
My first match as well. Age 12. I was a Chelsea supporter as a border at school but became a day boy so was free to enjoy time with dad. Travelled from Canterbury. Stood in tube train by Richard Attenborough. We both wanted to see Jimmy Greaves play, however Neither my dad or I had cottened on that he had moved on and swapped with Peters at Tottenham until we got to the match. Also, I have the programme but I’ve been scratching my head for years as I recall Baldwin scoring and Birchenall playing. Now I see that they were obviously late choices for the match due to injuries. We were in old East stand under the camera gantry so this film is as I remember it. Brilliant. Going to see Chelsea first time since 1983 this weekend. Long way from West Wales where I have worked. Everything is Blue!
Hahahaha! i'm a 62 year old Chelsea man and i was there for a good old BLOOD + THUNDER LONDON derby=up the west side of the shed wiv me mates and then in 10 days time that CHEEKY cockney boy Webby up at old trafford for the 70 cup final replay...,MAGICAL DAYS!! LUVV3D WATCHIN THIS BIT OF NOSTALGIA THANKS Piers. a.k.a. Chopper.
I adore the British game of yore, always seeing the ball going forward and into the opposition's half, instead of the other way around in today's football, where the back and lateral passes lull the viewer.
This too was my first game taken by my late Father. Spent a fair amount of time on his shoulders trying to get a look at the match as I was not very tall. Thanks for uploading.
Exactly and there was a great pool of them in those days. And now? I gave up going to see Arsenal as i started to not even be able to pronounce the player's name's half the time.. Once they started to invite more than two foreign players into a team then the league was lost of me.
Duckjive, I was at this game. It was April 1970, Martin Peters joined us in March '70 with the Legend going the other way. The Bridge was never a happy hunting ground for us apart from the very odd one to savour, like the one in November '70 in the biblical rain 🤣 Great find though all the same, keep up the great work.
Great players of yesteryear even Brian Moore what more could you want.An enjoyable game but i couldn't believe Tottenham didn't get something out of the game.🐻🤗👍
Around the 20.30 mark, a couple of tackles go in against Osgood (maybe two yellow cards in today's game) - he doesn't even blink, but he does get really upset when the throw is given against him. Can't see that happening in the modern game.
Hi just subbed. This is a excellent channel. Most other channels just show the goals which means you only see a few minutes of the auction. This channel shows most if not all of the games. Well done that man.
Also first game i went to. Still support the Spurs. Both teams had great players at this time. Gilzean, Peters & Chivers & Jennings in the same team. Also a young Perryman making an early appearance. He became a great servant of the club as many of them did in those days!
spurs finished 11th that season, and went out of the cups early on. imagine that now? bill nick would have been out the door double quick. things were different then - fans and owners had a much better long term perspective on things. tonite weve gone to everton and got a point, are two points off 5th and have a cup final next weekend - but to listen to a lot of our 'fans' and the media tonite you'd think our season has been a disaster.
I'm afraid it has been a disaster. No FA Cup or UEFA cup. Jose gone, Bale a dead loss for £500k per week. No CL again. But at least Poch has and is doing well at PSG.
Tavy@ that was a great game with so much skill and fast moving up and down the park. When men were men. And when they got injured they didnt want to get treated they just wanted to get up and get on with it. Did you notice how many times they touched each other as if to say sorry mate a went in a bit late there. And the other guy just knew he was geniune. I can remember when games were played in this way, i played in them but only at amature level, but there was so many great players playing amature that were better than proffesionals and had the same style, as in they would stop to see if you were ok. Now its 4 paramedics, 2 drs, and 4 xrays done while there still sitting on the grass, or carpet. They wouldnt last in 1970 with these two teams. They wouldnt have time for pansys in 1970 at stamford bridge. If they kept going down then the team would put them off the park for a few weeks for taking the piss. Ron harris would just sort them out and they would shite it. But then again you wouldnt have players like that back then, they would never make it that far in the game and trials.
@@stephengrainger7586 Hiya are you a Chelsea fan like me as I went to school with a David Grainger who’s a Chelsea fan and lived in north west London and are you related to him thanks and cheerio
No writhing about in pretend agony after every tackle thumping the grass. No tedious pressing either. The players all have room to breathe and show some skill. Much much better.
Goalies just thumping it up the field, probably seen as very primitive now compared to the cagey playing it out from the back possession style of today but made for a far more open game, the days when goal celebrations were brief and every tackle didn't require medical treatment
A lot of clubs sang bubbles back then, slightly different words than Wext hams version today. You'll never walk alone was also sung by every English club back then ttoo. Eventually West ham and Liverpool claimed them as club anthems.

What a shame the game has gone the way it has.

Look at the picture of the stadium 👌 the good old days when stadiums had character and history .yes hi tech stadia now but give me the old anyday
Great channel, brings back memories not found anywhere else. Thx for showing the beautiful game as it should be played, no diving, time wasting etc
To Chris: And always in the opposition's half without the side-to-side lull and drag.
No divas, no rap, no fancy clothes, a real workers sport.
A week away from a Never to be forgotten double final.🏴🇬🇧❤
Yes, I was lucky enough to be able to go to both - fantastic memories!
My first match at the Bridge!
The first of many.
Just a joy to watch these games bringing back memories of going to games in the early 70s
All British players fantastic , no shortage of skill here

RIP Ossie and Rachel Welch.🇬🇧🙏💌 Champions.
Miss this era so much great teams and players chelsea loyal
Today's players wouldn't even play in case they got their socks dirty.
Ha ha very true
Ok boomer 🤣🤣😂😂😂🤡🤡🫵🫵
Your spot on....
They will complain about the pitch and will never play. 🤣
Egomaniacs now franchised sadly. All gone

My first ever Chelsea game, couldn't hope for better
Today's footballers don't know their born .too bloody pampered .if you didn't get dirty you shouldn't be on the pitch
Love the fluidity and nerve. What happened to our game.
My dad was a season ticket at Chelsea so would have been at this game.
This Spurs team should have been much better. Packed with top names right through the side.

Leigh would you give Mourinho another season ? Personally I’m undecided.
Don’t fancy our chances against City tbh..

Don't know off hand the two starting lineups ,all English/ British no doubt
Football used to be great wonder why I bother now to be honest.
Imagine Perryman and Jennings still at Spurs in the 80s .
Ahhh those were the days
I was here in shed full skin heads then cfc and Sutton utd fc
Just look at the condition of the pitch. Technology and lots of money ensure the game will never be seen like this again.

Was there many games called off back then due to bad pitches ??
